Diner Reviews
  • "Fort Mason. A site for many of an event and various performances and activities. However, options for a relaxing, sit-down establishment with excellent, healthy, food are limited. Thank goodness for Greens Restaurant! With a view of the bay and the bridge and lovely food and service, it was a welcome respite after attending a large book fair at Fort Mason. There was no need to travel for find antoher place to eat after having attended an event in that area. I would go back again - I very much look FORWARD to going back again in the near future - with or without an event in that area previous. I would call Greens a destination restaurant in that regard. • "I've been coming to Greens a few times a year for about 10 years now, and can honestly say it is always excellent. The flavors are fresh and luscious, and I'm not even a vegetarian. The restaurant itself could use a bit of sprucing up, seems a bit worn, but still a great spot for a casual lunch. I was a bit turned off by our waiters long unkempt beard, but I suppose that's a generational thing. Greens still retains its balance between fine food and a relaxed SF vibe."

  • "Be aware, the portions are small but the price is high. Service is good but slow. Do not go if you are in a hurry."

  • "First timer- loved it. Fresh food, healthy, great staffing and loved seeing the sunset during dinner. We took our time and I have never had dinner over the course of 2 plus hours but did and enjoyed every bit of it."

  • "It was great! We both had the omelet and shared the spinach-curry soup. All of it was deliciously good, while obviously good for us as well. It's such great spot, and always has been one of my favorite places in all of SF to dine. Thanks, Greens!"

  • "We went here for the four course dinner meal on Saturday after the Giants game. The food was amazing and there was plenty of choice. The waiter Terry was attentive and fun. I love this place. Wish there was somewhere like this in Napa or Sonoma."

  • "Entire meal was wonderful AND I am a "foodie" - live for the bay area food and have for years - this is one of my favorite restaurants & have been going since they opened - vegetarian food today is so light compared to old days AND has such wonderful flavors - they do a great job. I love Sat. night w/ wine parings. Now, even their deserts have caught up w/ high caliber of rest of meal - that was not always the case in the past - they must have changed the pastry chef."

  • "Whenever I want a deliciiously prepared meal with out of town guests or a good friend I choose Greens Restaurant. My non-vegetarian friends are always delightfully surprised with their delicious meal and the lovely environment and view. Thank you!"

  • "We've been going to Green's ever since it opened way back, was it in the 1970's? Over the years we have introduced every out of town guest and they all love it. It is a nice space, has a great view, servers are informative and polite, and the food is to-die-for. They have absolutely the best pizza in town, whatever kind it happens to be. We still remember the mushroom pizza from a lunch months ago. But all menu selections are superb and ingredients are the best. To top it off, it is not at all pretentious. We are made to feel welcome no matter how we are dressed. We go at least once a month, can't seem to stay away."

  • "It's been almost 20 years since I was there and the food is still fantastic and inventive. The fire roasted poblano chile was exception al and everything about the dish went so well together, so delicious and amazingly filling."

  • "Food is very good, although for the billing (and the bill) I expected to be blown away and I wasn't. For me, too many of the options were vegetarian as opposed to vegan. Making them vegan meant leaving out cheeses and buttery sauces that no doubt changed the taste considerably. Nice wine selection and some unique cocktails are an interesting start. The view is just about unbeatable - great weather helped. The waitstaff is attentive without being intrusive and there is plenty of space between tables for them and guests to move. Even while busy and active, the acoustics of the old warehouse make it easy to hear and be heard by your dinner companions."

  • "What a distinctive, enjoyable spot. The ambience is wonderful, the food fresh and delicious, and even parking is plentiful."

  • "Stunning views, ambiance and service. The food is great but lacks a little sophistication in terms of amount of food and presentation. Starter Indian sampler is great flavor wyse, but with a little extra could be a main course. Red curry main is great but lacks presentation. Too much sauce and looks like a home cooked meal. Dessert (flourless chocolate cake) excellent overall. All in all very good experience with a few details that would make it excellent! Very good service."

  • "I could eat here twice a day and never get tired of the cuisine or the ambiance. A relative visiting from Sweden had heard about Greens, so who was I to deny him the opportunity? :-) He will be back next year and has already informed me that he wants to dine at Greens again!"

  • "I go to Greens once every couple of months and it never disappoints. The thinks I am familiar with are always great and the new things are always exciting. The biggest challenge is to choose among so many desirable items. What a wonderful restaurant!"

  • "Food was absolutely amazing at Greens but we had quite a terrible experience with our waitress. All of us were vegetarian but we had a dietary restriction of no eggs in our food. Waitress (amanda/andrea?) was extremely unhelpful with our dietary restriction. Did not bother to check with the kitchen on what contained eggs and what did not, just told us that she "thinks" this food item does or does not. She did not check up on us the entire meal and we waited about 10 min for her to notice we were done with our meal and to come over with the dessert menu. Overall, food was amazing, but the quality of service we received makes it hard to say we will be back."

  • "I thought the food just ok, very simple and not tasty. The staff were not friendly and the appetizers so small, expensive for the price. The only thing that I liked was the view."

  • "This has to be the best vegetarian restaurant we have visited. Over the top, and not to be missed if one can afford the prices."

  • "The food was great. The service was outstanding. The atmosphere is just delightful. Great restaurant. We ate there for dinner on Friday and for Brunch on Saturday. I'd go back again in a minute!"

  • "We have been to Greens for special occasions over the years, and it has never disappointed either the vegetarians or the omnivores in our group. We asked for a window table on a busy night, celebrating our younger daughter's acceptance to college, and were given the next best thing -- a table one row from the window with a spectacular view of the sunset over the bay. Our waiter was welcoming and attentive, and brought us a complimentary taste of the soup unasked. We ordered a spring roll appetizer and salad to share, and all three of us had a wonderful composed vegetable dish with polenta and greens on the side. We also shared intensely flavored sorbets and flourless chocolate cake. All was sumptuous."

  • "We have gone to Greens many times over the years and found he food last week disappointing--bland and unimaginative. Please Greens, get your freshness and ingenuity back!"

  • "As always, Greens delivers creative and delicious vegetarian dishes, outstanding service and a great view with ample parking. What's not to like?"

  • "This is my son's favorite restaurant so we almost always have brunch here for his birthday. On last visit was this past Saturday for his 33rd birthday. He loved it as always and did all of us in his party. Also he's celiac so he must have a gluten-free meal. Greens is always able to accommodate and in spades on Saturday with a flour less (i.e., gluten-free) cake birthday candle in place. Thanks to Green's for a great Saturday birthday brunch!"

  • "My absolute favorite San Francisco restaurant! Perfect for lunch and brunch. The food is amazing, as fresh and inspired as I've had anywhere. Seasonal spring specials, like the asparagus pizza and a salad with Meyer lemon dressing, were nothing short of spectacular. I'm not a vegetarian but I love, love, love Greens."

  • "I finally had a meal at Greens and it lived up to expectations. Lunch on a weekday, the appetizer and three entrees we ordered were outstanding."

  • "Not only is the food consistently marvelous, the management remains humane. I arrived with a guest I was taking to dinner for her birthday. There was no reservation and the restaurant was full. I begrudgingly searched my iPhone for the email that would establish I did indeed have a reservation only to find I had made it for the day before. The manager seated us at a side table with a congenial attitude regarding my mistake and acknowledgment of the special occasion. It was impressive and very welcome."

  • "Everything we ordered was rich in flavor and texture. The brochettes were my favorite. Austere yet aesthetic atmosphere with a touch of 70s nostalgia with a 5star view of the bay."

  • "When looking for vegetarian fare, Greens has no equal. Using only the freshest local produce of the moment and combining them in such creative ways, makes eating the "green way" an adventure. Chef and cookbook author, Annie Somerville, adds graciousness to the ambience by visiting with diners. She signed my "Field of Greens" cookbook, sparkling with the good health that suggests eating plants is a good model to follow. Our favorite place for dining in SF with gorgeous views of the bay and bridge, boats in them marina and sunsets over the Pacific to add frosting to the cake."

  • "This is our fifth time here. First 2 visits the food was tastey and imaginative. The last visits they have lost imagination and creativity. Vegetarian cusine is very difficult, but our dishes were just boaring and bland.very disappointed."

  • "While neither my wife nor I are vegetarians, we have always enjoyed everything we have been served at Greens. They do a fantastic job. In addition, the ambience and views of the Golden Gate Bridge are fantastic. This is one of my favorite restaurants in SF."

  • "I love the restaurant itself, great service, easy parking (though it's not free like it used to be) and lovely warm ambience, plus views, but the food was quite ordinary, mostly stuff I could whip up at home. Good, but not great. Tasty but not WOW!"

  • "Very good food and wine pairings. Some interesting combinations. As much as I enjoyed the food, it felt a little bland at times. Would like to see the use of spices and herbs to bring out the food flavors more perhaps. Nice presentations as well. Rather good cocktails. Excellent pace and service. Memorable. However, quite expensive at almost $300 with tip for two."

  • "From the moment we walked through the door we were totally impressed with this little gem of a restaurant. Housed in Fort Mason, it doesn't look much from the outside, but as you enter, it's like traveling to another world - clean, modern and totally zen. We were early for our reservation, so we sat at the bar and had a few pre-dinner drinks. Kyle, the bartender was so friendly and made us feel right at home as we waited. Our server had the most jovial and enjoyable accent. We dined on the prix fixe menu with the wine pairings and were not disappointed in the least. I am vegan and my sister is vegetarian and it's so hard to find a quality restaurant dedicated to veg fair. The food was unbelievable and I can't recommend it highly enough!"

  • "We visit CA every year in March (travelling from upstate NY) and we would not miss a meal at Greens. It is a vegetarian restaurant but the flavor is so good that you would really never know that there is no meat involved. This time I had the Mexican squash soup and it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended."

  • "Vegetarian food that works even for non-vegetarians -- not attempting to substitute for meat, just working with their chosen repertoire, and doing very well at it. Definitely not a budget place, but good value for the money all the same. Service was efficient, unobtrusive. Decor works with the broader theme -- some tables made to look carved out of huge tree trunks -- and the view of the Golden Gate Bridge can't be beat."

Everything was ordered and delivered in a timely manner which suited our tight schedule well. I look forward to coming back!"
