  • "Short ribs and wild boar meatloaf very good. Portion size just right. Great wine list. Great service. Large groups would not be best accomodated here. Not romatic due to noise level. No live entertainment if that's your thing - wasn't ours, so it didn't matter."

  • "I was meeting a friend of mine for dinner, but he was running really late. I have been to their other restaurant in downtown LA called Indsutriel (a great place I must say). The restaurant closes at nine o'clock, but my server had the kitchen stay a bit longer, so my friend had an opportunity to order his entree. Who does that these days? The food was most flavourable. I had the boar meatloaf with the boar bacon. My friend had their steak, which was cooked to perfection. For dessert we had their chocolate cake; it was quite sinful. I will definitely be back for the great food and service."

  • "Still way above the rest of the restaurant crowd in Old Town Pasadena. Menu has been honed-in on the local favorites. Well executed, although the menu offering can probably use a little more new turnover."

  • "My wife and I have been here for dinner several times and have always enjoyed their food. This was the first time we tried their brunch and was very impressed. Not very crowded and the ambiance felt like we were at a B&B b/c it was so friendly and casual. We will be back for brunch more often!"

  • "The shrimp cazuela was very good, and so declared all of us at the table as we "helped" our friend out by tasting...we will order that next time!"

  • "Used to be a great place, but everything has slipped. Food quality is not what it used to be, and the service is now awful."

  • "We walk by this place on a regular basis, so when friends came in from out of town we made reservations to try the menu. It always seemed quiet, so we thought it would be a good place to talk. Well the food was excellent, the wine list nicely curated, but the sound made conversation almost impossible. It was a busy Saturday night - with a large crowd. So we will definitely be back - on a night with fewer people when we want to talk to friends."

  • "This is a neighborhood staple for a good meal without having to venture too far into Old Town or over to Arroyo Chop House or Parkway Grill. The service is good. Don't miss items are the baked brie and roasted chicken."

  • "Good food, reasonable prices, attentive service and only a few short blocks to the Ambassador Auditorium. What more can you ask?"

  • "I made a reservation at Green Street Tavern about two weeks before Valentine's Day on OpenTable. When we arrived and were seated we noticed that the place was half empty, and we soon found out why ... they were only offering a fixed menu and it was $69/person. There was only one option on the menu that our group was interested in and therefore we left. I feel we should have been informed about the fixed menu when I made the reservation (I looked at Green Street Tavern's menu on-line before booking but the Valentine's menu was not listed). We have paid $69 a person for dinner before but we knew what we were getting."

  • "Green street tavern is a very cosy place but because of that the noise in both rooms makes it very hard to talk to your friends at your table. Pasadena people have gotten loud over the years I guess :) Food was very good though and they have a nice wine list."

  • "We had lunch one week , during Dine LA, and dinner the next. The food was spotty. Some dishes were delicious; others forgettable. EVERYTHING was attractively presented but UNDERseasoned. The salmon was also raw in the center. I like tender rare salmon but this is not safe to serve. The dinner crowd was heavy and the servers weren't keeping up. It will be awhile before I try it again"

  • "I picked this place for dinner with the parents because the croissant bread pudding looked enticing, and my mom LOVES bread pudding. She loved it! Everything else we ate was great as well. The servers were very attentive. It's a small restaurant, but supposedly there was a larger room in the back (not sure if it was for private dinners or what). Overall, perfect for a nice Friday night dinner with the parents."

  • "The food was excellent . Restaurant a little loud ."

  • "Ambiance was mixed. The decor was amazing if it was a romantic restaurant and I loved it very much. However it was very loud; the flooring and the curvature of the ceiling bounced the echoes of the big dining parties which was very according since it's a tavern. The romance of the decor and the extreme loudness (sounded like an outdoor bazaar) created that mixed/confused ambiance for me. Food was mediocre - bisque was salty, meatloaf was not appetizing (what did I expect?). ** Service was excellent. Even with such high traffic, the waiters were impeccable, friendly, and subtly kept a close watch on all the diners. As soon as we or our neighbors were done with our courses or halfway through our water, they would swoop in and refill."

  • "Three of us stopped by for the Wednesday night special - in this case, it was a super delicious bouillabaisse and a German white wine. We explained we were on our way to Speaker's Series starting at 8 pm. We got just what we wanted with excellent attention. This is always a good place for tasty food and nice ambiance. They do classics with a twist! Creative comfort food - we'll go back for sure."

  • "Friday night reservation via open table for 7:00 pm. When we arrived (on time), they did not have our reservation -- perhaps someone else grabbed it. No problem -- they seated up right away. We were seated and the service was extremely slow. We ordered the prix fix menu and had still not been served our desserts at 9:20. We asked for the check and left. Extremely noisy. Food was good but not great. Won't be going again."

  • "We ate at Green Street Tavern on Friday during Dine LA week. This was our first visit to Green Street Tavern and I am not sure we'll be back. I had the Grilled organic tomato appetizer which was excellent and the butternut squash risotto. Although the risotto part was delicious, the butternut squash was undercooked and crunchy. My husband had the grilled salmon. It was undercooked and the polenta it was served with was just so-so. He didn't eat it. However, the croissant bread pudding was out of this world. If I were to pick a restaurant based on the dessert alone, this would get my vote. The waiters were very nice, but the food just took forever to come out. We were seated at 7 PM but didn't get dessert until 8:30."

  • "We enjoyed an excellent meal recently at the Green Street Tavern. It was our first time there and we'll definitely go back again. Prices were very reasonable and service was very good. It's a small restaurant with two rooms and as such I'd recommend making a reservation as the restaurant can fill up quickly. The only negative was that we were seated in the back room which was 80% occupied by a large corporate group. They were very loud, probably amplified by the room's acoustic dynamics, too the point that it was difficult at times to converse or hear the waiters. I'm guessing that the noise wouldn't be a problem without such a large group dining there."

  • "We always enjoy dining at Green Street Tavern, frequently bring out-of-town friends, and this was no exception. Reliably good food (home-cooked comfort with a culinary twist), good ambience, good wines to savor (by the glass or bottle), and excellent service. Extra points to the staff for accommodating our request for a high-chair for our visiting guests' toddler, and preparing a special dish for the child. I wouldn't tag this as a "family restaurant," but it's nice to know that an early dinner with a young child can be accommodated easily and cheerfully."

  • "We had a lovely dinner here on Saturday. We came in early because we had a concert to attend nearby, and the service was very prompt without being rushed. My husband had the fish of the day, a mahi mahi that was excellent. I had the lamb tajine, which I have always enjoyed here in the past. This time it wasn't quite hot enough and had a lot of fat in it but was otherwise very tasty as always. We will be back. I prefer sitting in the first room. The second room is very noisy and the décor is a bit strange."

  • "Timely service, delicious variety of food, good portions, but not overwhelmingly so, kind staff - gave a complimentary dessert just because"

  • "I made the reservation based on online reviews, so I'm going to add my own: First of all, the staff are exceedingly friendly, also knowledgable, and attentive. The vibe I get here is strangely Parisienne -- but that might be the decor. If you can sit in the front room, there are a few window seats to watch the world go by while enjoying the terrific food. As most of the reviews might say, the trademark meatloaf is outstanding and satisfies like comfort food should. Prices are reasonable. I've paid much more for much less and for lower quality elsewhere. Hidden gem. Seek it out. Only wish is a better wine-by-the-glass selection. What they had was good and the bartender offered a taste, however, I'd like more choices, that's all."

  • "Our kids are early teens, so we look for good food at a reasonable price. This was perfect for us! It's a beautiful location on Green Street, near Old Town Pasadena. After visiting Huntington Library, we dined here and had a fantastic time. Great, friendly service. Our server had a sense of humor, and we felt welcome. The food was a step up from our usual dining. Three of us got the Filet, which was perfectly cooked and nicely presented with onion strings and Au Gratin type potatoes. I was the oddball, choosing the short ribs. They came with a very interesting goat cheese risotto that I enjoyed very much. Our appetizers - crab cakes and calamari - were great for intense but not overbearing flavor. We recommend it!"

  • "Very good food, beers overpriced but great options. Nice ambience. Salads are too small. My salmon was cooked to perfection. Recommend highly. Only down was we were seated next to a very loud group"

  • "I have to admit, this is my favorite place to eat. The service is always wonderful, the food impeccable (wild boar meatloaf and the bread pudding are musts!), it is perfectly relaxed, and a reasonably priced option (especially considering the surrounding restaurants). I mean, let's be realistic, you are going to spend about $20-$30 average everywhere else in Pasadena, easily, but here you can have a classy, rich meal and feel like a million bucks. I have brought and converted many to the charms of this place. So, if you are thinking of dinner in Old Town, just once break from the chains and support a great, quint local place and enjoy!"

  • "The food was very good and the atmosphere/decor were nice but it can become a bit too noisy to be romantic when it gets busy. It's also a bit more cramped than it appears in the photos. Portions are large."

  • "As we dine out on a frequent basis, we generally find that most restaurants hit the "average" expectations, sometimes they exceed. For a Sunday night dinner, GST exceeded our expectations with excellent service and food. The waiters are attentive and professional. The filet was excellent as was the smoked pork chop, recommended at "medium" and came out perfectly without being dry or tough. The size contributes to its moistness and flavor as well, about 1 1/2 inch in thickness. The lamb was another great choice, not a rack of lamb but more a ragout. The wine list has some gems which are not overly priced for a restaurant as well."
