Diner Reviews
  • "Our dinner was relaxing and the noise level was minimal in the restaurant, so we could talk easily. Food was great and very plentiful. We all left filled to the gills. Museum was very interesting too."

  • "A very nice experience, and we will return. Beautiful building with East Coast decor. Comfortable and interesting. Loved the Museum/restaurant concept! Waiters were very attentive but never over-bearing. Excellent food - and ample portions. Since we are originally from Philadelphia - and have been to those historical sites, it was wonderful to be able to peruse the various Museum documents."

  • "Not a good experience ... Did not seem to be "dressed for success"..... It will be quite awhile before we go back."

  • "The museum is interesting. The food was excellent. A nice addition to North County."

  • "Ambiance in main dining room was like a cafeteria - booths around the edge of the room and tables in the center. White walls and ceilings, with some colonial touches. I am from the East Coast and love colonial charm, but this was not it. The bar was a bit more attractive but too noisy for dining. The dining room was very loud as well. All the food ordered was very good and well presented. Had trouble finding out what was gluten-free on the menu, but the waitress did get the chef to provide a list of options. While the food was tasty, the portions were very small for salad and the scallops. For $26 they provided 3 medium size scallops - Honestly! I don't think the scallops could have been more than 2-3 oz total. They were delicious though."

  • "Great venue. Only item, our table in the dining room was 7-10 feet from the kitchen entrance for the service staff. It was very busy with the door constantly opening/closing. Perhaps some drapes or movable partition might help. :)"

  • "We had a great meal but almost had to yell at each other to here. The dining room was quite austere, but since they've just opened they may have plans to add more ambience."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "We went primarily for the museum: it was moderately interesting. The waiters were overwhelmed, the food (except for the delicious sweet potato fries) mediocre, and the setting noisy."

  • "Nice new bldg, traditional décor. Awkward 2 lvl bar had staff looking up as no server station or food delivery avail at that level. Staff must peer up scanning guests in need-vry awkward. Long staircase for all guest/service-accident waiting to happen. Lrg beer list & wine by glass with good cross selection price/quality level. Service slow & overly complex for server to input order to start process even for simple 2nd glass of wine. No liquor & no plans as owner/owners wife don't want. This will be tough as more formal dining rm is dinner only-without cocktail may prove poor decision regardless of reasoning. Food ok, not great. Since this start-up for restaurant, we will try again in 6 months and see if they have worked out awkward kinks."

  • "I really really wanted to like the Green Dragon, but my experience was underwhelming. The wait staff is super friendly and attentive, but other than that this place is stale with no ambiance or any character whatsoever!!! I had the Jidori chicken ceasar and the chicken was dry and flavorless and dressing was heavily mayo based. My group also had the pretzel bites and onion rings which were pretty good, and the tomato burrata salad which tasted like the tomatoes were canned. Very disappointed and will not be going back. The exterior is beautiful...not to sure how this place is going to make it. *Side note…this is a beer and wine only establishment."

  • "Sorry we couldn't visit the museum, booked for private event. Next time. Our waiter, Adam, is superb! Young, intelligent, and represents your restaurant to the T! We'll be back, for sure!!"

  • "The food and presentations stole the show! We had steamed mussels, and salmon entree and scallops entree and they were cooked to perfection. The server was excellent and very professional. It was a refreshing change and a great idea to bring Early American History into Southern California, the "museum" was interesting but for adults and history buffs. This should be a B&B also, it's a perfect set up. We would definitely come back!"

  • "Food is excellent and the presentation is nice. The whole Maine lobster was wonderful. We have enjoyed our dining experience in both areas of the restaurant. This is a gem for the Carlsbad area. Something different."

  • "Too loud in dining room....hard surfaced walls sound carries"

  • "A bit overpriced, but average for the location. They should also have a better steak knife to use, the one they had, pushed all of the juices out of the meat. Great service, very attentive. The museum area was wonderful, I will go back to visit that again, but maybe not for the restaurant."

  • "We didn't know what to expect after reading the reviews, but our dining party of three all enjoyed the food. We had a salad with lobster (lots of lobster large pieces), the crab cakes and the salmon. The salmon was the best of the three, but I asked to have it cooked more than the medium rare and this was not done. Still, it was extremely fresh and the asparagus was cooked perfectly. Do think it's a bit pricey at $27. Crab cakes were good, but not the best we have had. They are supposed to open for happy hour in a few weeks and will go back to check that out. This is a nice addition to the neighborhood, since Kings seems to overcook most of the seafood we order."

  • "Our first visit, and it was a lot of fun. We didn't have time to visit the museum and intend to return to do that. The restaurant is very well decorated in a colonial theme!"

  • "This was my first visit here and overall it was good. The menu was limited but the food was very good and the service was good. I will be going back again but will try their bar area this time."

  • "Beautiful architecture, excellent food, great service, an all around lovely dining experience. The dining room was very nicely appointed. The museum was vast, and me being from Boston made it even more interesting. Every person we spoke with on staff was friendly and we will be back. Our waiter Jordan was great. The bar area looked very busy and we will try that as well."

  • "Normally I steer clear of bad restaurant reviews but still feeling let down! Was so excited to try Green Dragon-a new museum/restaurant/ tavern in Carlsbad. The food is expensive and not worth it. Honestly the portions are way too big (I lost my appetite when my plate came) a beautiful pork chop which was not cooked well or seasoned well was overshadowed by a huge portion of sweet potato fries that had candied nuts, and peppers. No salt and pepper at our table which I understand and usually respect if the food is seasoned. Anyway I recommend the museum you can see some very interesting original documents, however I do not recommend the food. I ate one bite of the pork chop and was depressed. I threw a $25 meal away."

  • "The decor and overall vibe was exceptional.....although they some signs to let you know where the entrance is (it's on the side). My son had the. Clam Chowder (loved it), Fish & Chips which looked over cooked but the batter wasn't cooked all the way. My wife had the Scallops (loved them).....but the artichokes and veggies were over cooked on a grill and dry (couldn't eat). I had the Filet which was tasty but was overcooked (no pink inside for medium).....and like my wife the veggies were wakeful and dry. The waiter notified the amount of untouched food and explained that the chef's assistant didn't come to work so the chef was doing double work! A Chef should never allow they plates to leave the kitchen.......this is their job!"

  • "Given the restaurant opened a week ago, I was impressed. The look of the place was really nice. The food was very good. We had pickled veggie appetizers that were presented in little glasses. Very original and very tasty. The meal was wonderful. I had lobster-pork mac and cheese. Yummy! and enough for two more meals. Then the dessert. Cast Iron s'mores. If you are not a real chocolate fan, you might want to stay away from this, otherwise make sure you save room! The wait staff needs a little time to get up to speed and the dining room was a little noisy, but overall a great experience. And the museum was fascinating!"

  • "Employees were polite and efficient - aiming to please - Menue was not very inticing - limited choices and poor in appearance. I ordered the Brot entree - looked and tasted like an expensive hot dog - told the employees to go to TIP TOP across the street for supply- they have real Germman Brotwurst . My salad was not very good. Other people at the table enjoyed the mussles - wine was good but we all would have enjoyed a real drink and we were surprised that the liquor license is pending. next time we visit we will try the taver area for beer and light lunch. The museum was impressive - as a history buff, I particularly enjoyed. Look forward to visiting the new cafe when open. Jim Stepp 760-438-4070 Carlsbad"

  • "The service was outstanding as soon as we walked through the door. We made reservations which got us a nice table exactly on time. The history in the sprawling museum, authentic decor, and delicious food made it a five star evening. We'll be back many times with many friends."

  • "Service was excellent. Kudos to our waiter, Jeff. Ambiance has a genuine, elegant New England feel. Food was very good. No liquor license, so beer and wine only. Wine list is limited. "Museum" is a misonomer....just posters and copies of documents and paintings. Not even a cannon ball. Overall, a good experience, but one can dine as well and with an ocean view, for less."

  • "I was anticipating the opening for months. The idea of the place was very appealing but the reality was a disappointment. The service was not good, the food was merely OK. I will have to tell my friends that it is not worth a try."

  • "The ambiance is great, and the place definitely has potential. We really enjoyed touring the museum before dinner, but dinner was a let down. The dinning room is very noisy, and the food was very bland. Granted they have only been open a week, and I got the impression they are trying hard to be good. Both the general manager and the dining room manager stopped by to ask how we were doing. I will try back again in a couple months to see if the food is any better."

  • "Generous portions. Had the calamari, ceasar salad and Mac n cheese. We dined with friends and the calamari was a good sized portion that gave us all a good sampling. We had asked for mussels but they were not available. I shares the salad and Mac with my husband. Plenty to eat. Great beer selection. Great waiter. He was knowledgeable, cordial and best of all, he pronounced our name correctly! The music was very different. Don't know how I feel about it. Very loud one minute and non existent at other times. Couldn't exactly tell you the genre but expected to see Ben Franklin or Adams march in at any moment as the music reached a crescendo!"

  • "Table next to Kitchen door and chair for table of two was placed in middle of traffic path. Had to ask for a spoon to eat soup. Had to ask for pepper for soup and salad. Had to ask for menu. Noise level was extremely loud. Not many complete choices on menu."

  • "While the food and service were good the price and the noise level pretty much ruined our evening. Granted, we did choose the Valentines dinner menu, but $175 for dinner and a couple glasses of wine is a little steep. Might go back to try out the tavern, but will only return for special occasions to the dining room."

  • "We recently moved from Boston, so having a new Boston themed place sounded good. The place is supposed to be like a old Boston building, but the inside seemed way to "new" feeling and modern to look anything like an older building. They could have used more distressed wood, and have more wood in general in the interior. The bar was quite large, and the bartenders quite nice. Drink prices were not outrageous. The dinner prices are not inexpensive. The food was OK, the clam chowder would stand up in one of the Boston chowder fests. The scallops were good, but a bit too salty for my taste. No salt or pepper on the tables. We may try this place again later, this was only the 2nd day they were open. A happy hour would be nice!"

  • "I have been waiting a long time for the opening of the Green Dragon. We got in on a "soft opening" which was perfect. Food was outstanding, service was amazing, and the atmosphere was everything I expected. We sat in the main dining area, next time we will sit in the tavern area. The menu is not extensive, which I like, but it is a little pricey, bring your wallet! All in all it was a great time and I can't wait to go back."
