  • "All food orders were wonderful. Disappointed there was no complimentary bread service available."

  • "This restaurant is in the Hotel, but has not improved from 'hotel' fare as others have. We had to wait for someone to appear to show us to a table. The place was so empty I did not even say we had a reservation (it was a waitress who seated us, not a hostess) The service we great but the food was average, but priced above average."

  • "I come to Chicago often but had never eaten at Great Street before. I followed OpenTable's recommendation and had a great dinner with a great view at a very reasonable price for Downtown Chicago. We had dinner the day of the St Patrick's Day Parade and I had the Corned Beef special. I am Irish and have never had a better prepared and tasting corned beef dish. The service was friendly and impeccably performed. I have already recommended Great Street to friends that live outside of Chicago who also had not previously had the pleasure of eating there. I unequivocally recommend this restaurant."

  • "Booked with Open Table 4 days before the Event, requesting a window seat. The seating area has huge windows facing the Chicago river. I booked for 10 AM then also called the mgr saying "we NEED" a window table. Arrived 45 min before the EVENT: watching the Chicago River turn green at 9:30 AM. It was like having a warm box seat for the event while thousands stood 4 deep on the bridges in the cold. So fun! Did have to wait about 15 minutes for a table to clear....then got the best in the house by 9:45. The waiter recommended the $25 buffet and it was varied, fresh and the omelet I requested was very very good. I thank Open Table and staff at Great Street for giving us such a memorable (and tasty) mid-morning experience on St Patrick's!"

  • "We went here prior to the Jennifer Nettles concert and needless to say, when we got there at 5:30 (yes I know its early) it was empty. While this made for a great table and quiet conversation, it was a bit alarming to say the least. But the food was very good and the view was awesome."

  • "Wanted a restaurant close to Chicago Theater - couldn't get much closer. But what a pleasant treat - GREAT view of the river and iconic Chicago buildings, unique but limited menu (a lot of meat dishes and we don't eat meat), good wine. And all this at reasonable prices! A great find!"

  • "Good for business lunch & breakfast with fantastic views of Chicago & the river. Goodlace to meet for business breakfasts or lunches, or before going to theater."

  • "On a crummy winter evening, we ate at Great Street because it is very close to Goodman Theatre. Dining room was huge although nicely designed, and it has a wonderful view of the Chicago River. The menu has a good variety of delicious-sounding dishes. Service was very good, but the kitchen seemed a bit slow given there were only a few tables with diners. Entrees (short ribs, fish and pork) were tasty and well prepared, but forget the Kale Ceasar's Salad -- it did not have the crispiness of romaine and the flavor of the kale did not marry that well with the dressing. Overall, because the dining room was extraordinarily pleasant, the food was good and reasonably priced, and we could converse in a normal tone of voice, we plan to go again."

  • "Visited Chicago for Christmas while seeking a stress-free holiday meal and I couldn't have picked a better place. I'll begin with the waiter who noticed my son's Nintendo 3-DS had a red light so we let him borrow one from the back. Huge!!! I love any restaurant that doesn't seat my husband and I in the back when they seen our son. Waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable of menu. Also loved the fact that we could order a la cart and not be out priced by most restaurants forced holiday brunch selections. Food was simply outstanding. Will definitely recommend for upcoming ACHE Conference and Statewide Delta Sigma Theta Cluster. Can't say enough about our Christmas experience."

  • "We have patronized Great Street for many years but this was our first time back in about a while. It has a great view of the Chicago River. However, it has been remodeled and where window tables were previously separated by a partition, it now looks like a glorified coffee shop with a completely open floor plan. In the past, the food while never spectacular was always good and worth the price. The food seems to have gone downhill as well. Although there were few diners at 4:00PM, the service was not as attentive as we remembered. In the past, the Marriott Renaissance has always allowed diners 3 hours of free parking in their garage which made Great Street an attractive dining option. We were unhappy to be charged $25 to park for 2 hours."

  • "We recently visited Great Street on a Friday evening after spending two hours wandering through the Kriskringel Market. Not wanting to arrive too early for reservations and be made to wait, we were totally surprised to find less than a handful of tables occupied. There was no noise level to compete with. We enjoyed the view of the river and lights from the second floor location. While we each ordered different entrees, from fish to pork to beef, we all raved about our choices. Service was efficient and well timed, including wine service. An absolute hidden gem!!! Not sure if I want to post this because I don't want it to be crowded on my next visit."

  • "My friend was running late, but the restaurant was empty, so I got seated fairly quickly. I don't know if they read that I was pescetarian in my reservation, but they served me corn chowder with bacon garnish and bacon in the soup. The menu description did not mention bacon at all. So I had to wait for a salad. It didn't take too long, but we had tickets to see The Nutcracker at 7:00 which I told the server as I was seated. We got our entrees, and I was trying to eat both my first and second course at the same time, rushing to get out on time. By then, there were two other small tables. Then the service lagged. The food was pretty good, but this restaurant is not on my "return" list."

  • "Delicious food, great portion sizes - everything ordered was fantastic, love the local inspiration. 6 Cheese flatbread is a must. London broil perfectly cooked with tasty accompaniments. Black pepper fettuccine was wonderfully simply and satisfying. Sauteed mushrooms come in a cute cast iron cocotte and rhubarb dessert was fantastic."

  • "Perhaps the best thing about Great Street Is the location and panoramic views of the river--spectacular! Beyond that, ambience is fair to poor, menu is very limited, service was adequate, food, however, was quite good and it's presentation was also quite good. Proximity to the downtown theaters makes it a good choice for pre-show dining. I would return and encourage others to try Great Street."

  • "First visit here since conversion from tablecloth-elegant to hard-edge designy. Felt less special and, with less fabric to absorb noise, louder, but this is a matter of personal taste. Service was extremely courteous, but very slow---hard to find the waiter. Might have been understaffed that day, noon to one-thirty on a Thursday. Food (seared tuna salad for me) was superb, but a small serving of bread would have been very welcome. Overall, my guest and I were satisfied, but, luckily, not in any hurry. I'd come back for the spectacular panoramic view, but with lower expectations and hoping to be surprised."

  • "Had I known it was in an actual hotel, I would not have picked it. Hotel restaurants are often pricey (not unexpected) and food is always "ok". The menu I saw on this site was completely different. I had the "Big BLT"..big with tons of lettuce, plain yellow tomatoes and some sparce basil mayo. I also had the crab and corn chowder without crab. My friend had the dry aged burger with onion jam and wasn't impressed. My other friend had the amish chicken and considering she didn't eat all day, she didn't even finish her plate. Service was fine, but for a total of 4 people the bill was $91- without cocktails. Could have gotten a better meal at a better price somewhere else...next time I'll know better.."

  • "Have gone past the hotel many times and was not aware of the 2nd floor restaurant overlooking the Chicago River. We enjoyed a flatbread starter followed by salads and fish and steak entrees. All of the dishes were prepared to our satisfaction. The wine was a nice find. We enjoyed the quiet environment making it easy to converse with old friends. This would make a great spot for watching parades passing on Wacker and State Street one story above street level."

  • "Two of my business associates had the grilled cheese sandwich, and neither liked it. They both said there was a cheese used that gave it a bad taste. Grilled cheese should be pretty basic. I would advise that nothing unusual be added to the expected mix. I had the BLT with turkey, and it was fine. I miss your buffet and it has prevented me from returning more often. You should offer it at least on Fridays. I used to bring clients in regularly because of the variety, I didn't have to worry about dietary limitations.. Plus, they could always order from the menu. Judging from how few customers you had at peak lunch hour, I think you need to rework your menu."

  • "Selected Great Street for its location and its view and it did not disappoint. Had a table by a window with a view of the Chicago River. Did nnot realize that they had a buffet it you were interested and everyone in my party selected this option. Plenty of variety including omelets cooked to order. Would I come back - definately!"

  • "Last minute theater tickets mean not much time to reserve a spot for dining. I had looked at numerous spots close to the Goodman Theater, and couldn't get in when we wanted to eat. Great Street was not busy and is only two short blocks away from the theater. The view is spectacular and there was no waiting. Server was patient when the 3rd person was a bit late to join. We had a relaxing dinner with good conversation - no shouting to be heard or smiling in that dumb way when you have no idea what your table mate has just said. I'll remember to do this again."
