Diner Reviews
  • "Not sure if it was an off night and a really inattentive waiter whom we needed to ask several times that we were ready to order, or needed the bread we requested several times - but seemed like the service had declined. I like the vibe and typically the food is very good. My dish needed salt, and know and really like their sister restaurants a lot, so was disappointed with our night out here. Hope they'll try to be more attentive as it is a nice spot."

  • "For Palo Alto this is a great place to have a nice dinner and not overpay. We loved the cheese platter because it had this amazing fresh bread. Also the short ribs were very good. We'll be back."

  • "Our party enjoyed great food and three different wine flights. Sunday evening was quieter than our previous Saturday visits, which made for pleasant conclusion to the weekend."

  • "I had asked for a special occasion table, which I thought would make this date more congenial to conversation, but found that the whole place is very loud. We got a table near the bar, I forgot to ask if this was the requested table, but in any case; the whole restaurant seems very noisy and it only got worse. Low ceilings around the bar don't help matters at all."

  • "Great lunch with the daily special being halibut. Nicely prepared with vegies that were hot and cooked perfectly. Like this place. A little pricey for lunch but I think worth it."

  • "great food, great wine. oysters were fresh and tasty. the burrata was creamy and served with salty grilled bread. risotto was perfect. it's the type of menu where you want to try many things. i'd def return."

  • "Food was very delicious overall and served in upscale manner although the cost was reasonable. I was dining with my wife and we're both used to eat tiny portions and usually skip the appetizer and dessert. However, after eating the entree we both felt that the portions were quite small indeed but very delicious and tasty. We did enjoy the wine list though and overall very nice experience."

  • "Food was good, (had salad and duck). Service was attentive but slow. Server or kitchen totally forgot about a bruschetta trio appetizer that never came out - but my BF and I forgot about it too until after we were already home (probably due to the several wine flights we drank). Would give 3.5 stars if I could - sommelier made up for totally forgotten app and slow to come out food. Waiter was also apologetic - place was packed. Pretty sure tables on either side of us turned twice."

  • "We love Gravity. The food is great. Only complaint is that our waiter seemed a little bitter and he tried to up sell us on wine."

  • "Considering this is a wine bar, our server did not have did not know what our Wine Flight wines were or had any knowledge to share about the wines...."

  • "Wanted to try this place for a long time. Love their sister restaurants, Scratch, Peninsula Creamery and Resposado. Menu has some nice selections. I ordered the duck confit, and it was cooked nicely. The accompanying kale and potatoes were good. Entire thing was over salted, which was such a bummer. My friends had the short-ribs, and he said it was really good, but his portion of meat was very small. My other friend ordered the mussels, shrimp, pasta dish. The weird thing was the mussels, they were falling apart, and not staying together when she tried to pull them out of the shell, they just disintegrated. Mussels should pull off the shell fat and plump. These were small and thready. Food=decent, Service = Poor, inexperienced waiter."

  • "I've been to this restaurant several times and my past experiences is what brings me back. However, this particular night was just not up to par. We were seated in the middle of the upstairs dining room which was uncomfortable for one person in our party. And our server, oh I truly believe this was his first night or at least I hope so. He seemed really nervous, didn't seem familiar with the specials & we kept having to ask him to remove finished dishes from our table. He wasn't as attentive as I've known their servers to be & it just made for an awkward evening. The food was SPECTACULAR though so I'm sure I'll return, but this particular evening wasn't my best experience."

  • "My fellow diners and I liked the food at Gravity but the service needs improvement. The servers were attentive enough but the delivery was off. We ordered oysters 10 minutes before we ordered dinner but the servers came out with the salads before we had even seen an oyster. We had them hold the salads and bring the oysters but only half of that order came out and we had to correct them again. When the entrees arrived only 4 of 5 made it to the table, the risotto was missing in action for anther 7-10 minutes. We were dining with good friends and did not let the service keep us from enjoying the evening, we even laughed a bit because waiter had announced, as we browsed the menu, "everything is good here except the service!" Prophetic."

  • "Great Place. Hated the tall chairs and the "organic coffee". The rest was great. Wait staff excellent as is the food."

  • "but rather noisy. We sat downstairs (bar area with lots of tables), upstairs had several large groups so it was rather noisy. Bar area was also noisy, and we realized after we walked outside that we had been shouting all evening. Good place for lively bar scene, but not so good if you would simply like to talk with your table guests using a normal tone of voice."

  • "We see the potential and would like to see improvement in the upcoming future. 1) Calamari - too oily but seasoning was good 2) Pasta with Ragu sauce - ragu sauce tasted very good. pasta was over cooked thus too soft. Cook the pasta in lesser time and this will be a great dish 3) Duck confit - seasoning was solid. Duck leg needs to be really pan-seared to make it crispy. Dont be afraid to heat up the pan to make this dish fantastic 4) Burger - need to sear it outside. It was under cook and under seasoning a bit 5) Wine choice is wide. Cost is reasonable. Guilliams -Cab, Spring Mountain. '06 was good 6) Service needs improvement. Our waiter was not familiar with the menu, food portion, food preparation & wine list 7) Desert is not good"

  • "Portions were small and prices were high. I had Scallops with Kale. I doubt there was even 1 Kale leaf in the dish. Scallops were fine, but just barely warm."

  • "My wife and I visited the restaurant Friday evening for diinner and drinks, and I'd give this a slightly above average score. I've given ta "recommend" purely on the basis that there was nothing offensive about the place. Pick this bar if you want a decent glass of wine and some food on the average-good scale. The dessert was our highlight, the main courses were decent and the starter was quite poor. At $140 for two inc. tip, not too expensive, but the wine was more than 1/3 of the bill. The bar has a good selection of wine, but it priced accordingly. The decor/ambiance is fitting for the wine/bistro experience. If you want a quiet romantic meal, then ask for seating upstairs. We'd return for the wine..... perhaps not to eat."

  • "Like the food, atmosphere and décor. Be prepared for lively, noisy and crowded bistro type of feel. Service was only ok; tables a little crowded together -- even for a bistro. Interesting menu but a little disjointed. Interesting wine list and unusual in a good sense. I will go there again but definitely when I'm in an upbeat, energetic mood -- definitely not for a romantic date night out."

  • "Good stuff: Service was outstanding, very patient with questions and requests. Bad stuff: Value of food not worth it. Appetizers were good, interesting and fun. Entrees weak. I had the lamb chops, around $26? I got two very small thin chops. One of which was 50% fat wad and gristle. The flavor was more like venison, very gamey. I have lamb chops often and these were just not good. Served with a tart cranberry-type sauce, overwhelmed the meat flavor. Another had the filet, which was "boring" as she said. Another weird thing; we sat in a booth and the seat banquettes were so high, our feet were off the floor. Also extremely noisy. Being that Gravity is owned by Reposado (which is GREAT!) we were hugely disappointed."

  • "Olives, Cheese plate, and charcuterie appetizers very good. Nice variety of complimentary flavors with the cheese plate (honey, fig, walnuts, grilled sweet onions). Main courses were good - only problem is that both Filet's were ordered medium rare, but actually appeared to be cooked more like the steak tartare... Good service, knowledgeable server."

  • "We were a party of 4, and we were seated upstairs. My mussels and sausage starter was tasty, and my cornish hen was delicious. My husband's frisee salad and his short rib over polenta were good. Our friend ordered the fixed menu, and his duck liver was awful, dry and tasteless, which was a real disappointment. His hanger steak was OK. His wife had a duck confit main course, which was good. The service was very annoying. Our dishes kept coming in 3's, leaving one person without a dish for minutes. Plates were whisked away as soon as a folk was put down, leaving one of us eating all by themselves with no plates in front of the others. I had to hold on to my hen dish to allow my husband a chance to finish it for me, lest they take it."

  • "Came here for restaurant week with a few friends. Came in before our reservation time and they were able to seat us on their second floor. Definitely liked the ambiance and music, our waitress was also friendly but mostly left us alone. The restaurant week menu was good. I had their seared duck liver, honey roasted pork belly, and the Tuscan rice fritters. They were all delicious, but I was hoping for more. Overall, it was delicious, definitely was a great opportunity to try out a place, with a prix-fixed menu and price. Hope to come back sometime for a wine flight."

  • "As soon as we got to the restaurant, the waiter hovered over us for our order, barely giving us time to read the menu. We ordered a salad and appetizer and main courses. The appetizer came in a few minutes but the other persons salad took almost an hour! When we asked about it, they said the kitchen was backed up yet everyone around us was getting food. Turns out the waiter forgot to order it. Then when we asked how long our entrees would take, he said he would put the order in. We had ordered almost an hour before and he hadn't ordered our food! When we spoke to the manager he simply said he was sorry. No offer to comp the salad, bring a dessert or anything. And the food was ok, but nothing special. Drink was just ok too."

  • "Scent wine list but not notable. Food is hit or miss. Lamb chops were extra salty and cold or warm at best. Brussels sprouts were without any character. Appetizers were bland and boring."

  • "The noise level was extremely high. The wine list was very expensive. For the quantity of food, the prices was very high."

  • "Good wine list but over priced. A good wine bar should have a significant number of moderately priced wines (such as Soif, Oswald, or La Posta in Santa Cruz do). Probably will not return for this reason. Food was well prepared and presented. Overall service was good but the bus persons were not well enough trained."
