  • "A very friendly staff, and of course Kurt Grasing himself. The whole dining experience at Grasings is unforgettable"

  • "Pleasantly surprised with this restuarant. The duck was tasty as was the beet salad. The waitress Paula was personable and service oriented--I hope her establishment appreciates her! They had a very nice half bottle wine list which is hard to find but a testistomony to their attention to detail."

  • "The service was impeccable, accommodating us arriving much earlier. The sommelier was helpful and knowledgeable and the food, absolutely delicious. We congratulated ourselves on finding it in a restaurant-rich environment! Already have recommended it to others seeking a great place for dinner!"

  • "From the greeting by the hostess to the good bye from the host, we felt welcome at Grasing's. We made a reservation for 2 days later as we exited this cozy gem--we needed another opportunity to try the many appealing offerings. I had the heirloom tomato & burrata salad, which was lovely with the balsamic reduction. My husband had the warm spinach salad which he thoroughly enjoyed. His filet was done perfectly; my only disappointment was that my Kansas City Steak was a little more than medium rare. But I did not send it back because it was still quite tasty. Looking forward to discovering more dishes and bring treated so kindly when we go back tonight."

  • "We eat at Grasing's everytime we are in Carmel. The food and service is always fabulous. We brought friends with us last week. They were equally impressed. Thank You for a great evening!"

  • "Grasing's always hits it out of the park with delicious fresh food, great service and on top of all that it has charm charm charm. It is one of the very best restaurants in Carmel. I always like to meet friends there because we can talk and I feel surrounded by beauty."

  • "We liked our dining experience at Grasing's and found it to be a good choice on our first evening in Carmel. The food was excellent but service a tad slow. Fortunately, we were on a vacation timetable and very forgiving with a 30 minute wait for our first glass of wine and orders to be placed. The pasta entree was good and the crab cakes were passable as an entree. The butter lettuce salad was divine!"

  • "Chose Grasing's from reading the other reviews. We shared small plates so we could sample more of the flavors, nothing disappointed. We had not had abalone in a long time, it was well prepared, creatively served but we did not think it was a good value. Glad we ordered the small plate, it would have disappointed as an entree. It should be noted that the patio, where we dined, is pet friendly. We reserved thinking we would be traveling with our dog, which we opted against, and the staff had a dog bowl with water awaiting our pet. Thoughtful planning on their part."

  • "Probably the best restaurant in Carnel - the food is fresh and prepared excellently with pride. We had an excellent dinner one evening and a late lunch on another day in the bar where Gina's cocktails were great and the food was good. We even went back another afternoon time for excellent calamari and different cocktails by Gina. The people are all very friendly and hospitable too."

  • "Set in a quintessentially charming Carmel-by-the-Sea building, right off Ocean Ave., Grasings consistently serves delicious food on tables set with refined white tablecloths. The menu offers a wide spectrum of choices, and the wine list is extensive. Servers are professional, polite and very accommodating. We have greatly enjoyed the many meals over the past 15 years at this beckoning endroit. This time, our friends who joined us & who have dined in most of the world, proclaimed Grasings as one of the best restaurants ever!"

  • "Great dinner with the family! Highly recommended. Amazing steaks, great local seafoods... abalone on the menu! Desserts were awesome, too! Highly recommended!"

  • "Grasing's continues to be one of the best restaurants in Carmel. The service, food, wine list and overall environment makes you feel good about your decision to dine there. I would go back over and over again. Steaks were cooked perfectly but I will definitely try the Paella next time. You will not be disappointed..."

  • "Dinner was great. Ambiance was amazing. Service was spectacular. One of my favorate food spots in Carmel hands down!!"

  • "The problem with this restaurant is bathrooms which are located outside of the restaurant. And it was worse this time because the ladies room was not working so my guest had to go "around and about" to find it."

  • "Our experience started off great, beautiful space, attentive staff. Appetizers (butter lettuce salad and onion tart) were both among the best we've had. Then things got a bit off. Before we were done with appetizers, they brought our main course. It was very awkward as they kind of shoved everything on the table wherever it would fit. Anyone could have seen that we would have been ready in just a few more minutes. The main courses (turkey sandwich and crab and avocado benedict) were really a let-down, very ordinary. At the end of our main course, they brought us the check. There was no offer of coffee or dessert. We felt very rushed. It all seemed strange for a place that has won all of these awards and seemed so elegant otherwise."

  • "The half bottle of wine we ordered (the least expensive but most well known) was not available so they offered us two more expensive wines. (Bait and switch?) Each of us got one slice of bread and when we finished it we were asked not if we wanted more but if we were done with the bread. The San Pellegrino was not chilled so we had to ask for ice. The bowl for shells for my Paella was too small to hold the shells and apart from the shell fish there was no chicken or other fish but only spicy sausage which made the dish more spicy than it should have been. The room was quite warm but they had neither A/C nor even a fan to cool it. But the waiter was cool, or should I say cold, we were never asked if we enjoyed the meal. Never again."

  • "Second visit here. Food and menu not up to what it once was. Service was friendly but very slow. Someone was allowed to bring a non service dog to lunch even though it was only the patio. Not pleasant."
    Dined on 7/24/2014
  • "We were seated in a room with three large parties (we were 2) - with reservations - and proceeded to eat in an atmosphere slightly quieter than a rock concert. We literally couldn't hear one another speak from 2 feet away. The waiter mentally calculated his tip & I couldn't even get an ordered drink before my dinner arrived. We would have left, changed tabled, etc. if we had realized how unspeakably uncomfortable the $75 meal was going to be. To be fair - the food was utterly delicious, but beware of your seating arrangement."

  • "My wife and I have eaten frequently at Grasing's over the years and are always pleased with the entire experience. The extensive and reasonably priced wine line allows us to try special wines and the food it always top notch."
    Dined on 7/21/2014
  • "We needed to come back because there is so much to choose from on the menu that sounds too good to pass up. The presentation of the dishes is perfect with the freshest of produce. The tomatoes alone could make me come back for more. Excellent service and we need to go back to try more dishes!"

  • "Carmel has lots of good restaurants but very few great ones. In fact, Grasings is the only great restaurant in Carmel. They often have Abalone, which is a treat and everything on the menu is prepared beautifully. The scallops were served in a delicious sauce, the heirloom tomatoes tasted of a past era and the steak melted in your mouth. Our east coast friends were greatly impressed. We've never had a bad meal at Grasings in six years."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "We started with the onion tart which literally melts in your mouth. Next was the abalone appetizer - 4 delectable medallions on the freshest greens. Just the taste we came here for. The sea bass on great northern white beans with spinach and mushrooms was complex and delicious. It comes with bacon which we omitted. We finished with the Caesar salad which was disappointing. Even the anchovies we requested didn't help the bland dressing. We would still recommend this restaurant; it's truly a gem."

  • "A Wonderful welcome as we walked thru the door into a softly lit room full of warmth, cozy ambience, and quiet elegance......the dinner wasn't bad either......starting with the scrumptious crab cakes, followed by a delicate Sea Bass with lobster sauce, and topped off with a decadent hot chocolate cookie.....a perfect anniversary dinner...."

  • "This was our first time to Carmel. Didn't realize there were no addresses on the buildings but had no problem finding this resturant. The menu had something for everyone. The food we chose was light and very flavor able. Being from New Orleans we are used to incredible food and flavors and are never sure what we are going to find in other areas. Would recommend this resturant to anyone visiting the Carmel by the Sea area. Wish we had more time to have a cocktail at the bar."

  • "As usual the food and the service was excellent. A must stop whenever we're in Carmel."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "The food was good but expensive, about what you would expect in Carmel. It was worth one visit, I don' t think it's worth a second trip. Service was very good, their drinks from the were very good."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "We have been to Grasing's twice, once for lunch and this time for dinner. Both times we have left not only with a great dining experience, but more importantly a treasured Carmel memory. Meal was top drawer, Martini's were some of the best ever (which is really saying something), and service was just perfect. We brought our golden retriever, so sat out on the patio, but that didn't take away at all from the ambiance as this place has it in spades. The inside was lovely and romantic, and the bar scene was jumping. What more could one ask?"

  • "We had a delicious dinner with our family. The calimari and leek appetizer was a favorite as was the fresh Alaskan Halibut. One of the boys loved the sea bass as well. Great service and a good wine list."
    Dined on 6/24/2014
  • "we had the Caesar salad, paella and bone-in veal chop. all very good. in the paella, they use orzo instead of rice, but it works well. nice rich seafood broth. the veal was one of the most tender cuts of meat i've ever had. garlic mashed potatoes had a silky smooth texture. we enjoyed a polish mule cocktail (in a copper mug) and the montagna cabernet. our dog was cozy and comfortable at our feet."

  • "Grasing is fantastic! Every time I am in Carmel area, I go there. Food is creative and flavorful, wine selection by glass or half bottle is outstanding, service is best in town. I recommend to anyone, especially foodies."
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "Food and service was good but not outstanding or worth the price. Salad was very good. Steaks came luke warm and bake potato was cold and tasteless. Service was ok but did not come around after the food was served. For the price I would not go back."

  • "We were in Carmel for 3 days for our anniversary and so glad we chose Grasing's one night. My wife had the Beet Salad and then the Abalone (first time) and she loved it. I had the Crab Cakes and Scallops and they were delicious. We also had a nice bottle of wine. We are from NY and when we entered the restaurant one of the Stanley Cup Final hockey games were on between the NY Rangers and LA Kings. I stopped to check out the score and for the rest of the evening the hostess would come back and give me updates. The wait staff and overall service were outstanding. We had a great time and almost went back the next night.....but wanted to try something else. Ended up not being as good as Grasing's. Would HIGHLY recommend it."

  • "Not dog friendly in spite Of advertising. A cold patio and rickety tables were the option. We chose to eat inside W/o dog although she was a service dog undocumented, her owner a recovering cancer patient forgot the papers. Our server was excellent and so was the maple duck and wine options. The lamb very good but couscous very ordinary. On the whole not great experience for the price. Management might practice listening to their guests especially when disabilities are obviously present."

    Dined on 6/10/2014
  • "We have experianced very slow service, two times in a row. It could be the server, we had him both times; but waiting an hour and 15 minutes for an entree is not acceptable. The other comment I would make is be careful where you are seated, many tables are in a traffic pattern and you get bumped by servers all during the meal."
