    Dinner is offered nightly, seven days a week, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

A word from Grasing's
Grasing’s, located in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea, lies along the Pacific Coast in Central California in Monterey County. It is 120 miles south of San Francisco, 70 miles south of San Jose and 350 miles north of Los Angeles.

Celebrity chef partners, Kurt Grasing and Narsai David, truly created a gem. Hard time getting drink service and when one of the dinners wasn't right (steak overcooked) we got it replaced with tooooo rare. That one went back and we were offered a third steak. Not the waiters fault. He tried his very best. The Kitchen and Bar must have been short staffed."

  • "From the greeting by the hostess to the good bye from the host, we felt welcome at Grasing's. We made a reservation for 2 days later as we exited this cozy gem--we needed another opportunity to try the many appealing offerings. I had the heirloom tomato & burrata salad, which was lovely with the balsamic reduction. My husband had the warm spinach salad which he thoroughly enjoyed. His filet was done perfectly; my only disappointment was that my Kansas City Steak was a little more than medium rare. But I did not send it back because it was still quite tasty. Looking forward to discovering more dishes and bring treated so kindly when we go back tonight."

Fortunately, we were on a vacation timetable and very forgiving with a 30 minute wait for our first glass of wine and orders to be placed. The pasta entree was good and the crab cakes were passable as an entree. The butter lettuce salad was divine!"

  • "Chose Grasing's from reading the other reviews. We shared small plates so we could sample more of the flavors, nothing disappointed. We had not had abalone in a long time, it was well prepared, creatively served but we did not think it was a good value. Glad we ordered the small plate, it would have disappointed as an entree. It should be noted that the patio, where we dined, is pet friendly. We reserved thinking we would be traveling with our dog, which we opted against, and the staff had a dog bowl with water awaiting our pet. Thoughtful planning on their part."

We had an excellent dinner one evening and a late lunch on another day in the bar where Gina's cocktails were great and the food was good.   • "Our experience started off great, beautiful space, attentive staff. Appetizers (butter lettuce salad and onion tart) were both among the best we've had. Then things got a bit off. Before we were done with appetizers, they brought our main course. It was very awkward as they kind of shoved everything on the table wherever it would fit. Anyone could have seen that we would have been ready in just a few more minutes. The main courses (turkey sandwich and crab and avocado benedict) were really a let-down, very ordinary. At the end of our main course, they brought us the check. There was no offer of coffee or dessert. We felt very rushed. It all seemed strange for a place that has won all of these awards and seemed so elegant otherwise."

  • "The half bottle of wine we ordered (the least expensive but most well known) was not available so they offered us two more expensive wines. (Bait and switch?) Each of us got one slice of bread and when we finished it we were asked not if we wanted more but if we were done with the bread. The San Pellegrino was not chilled so we had to ask for ice. The bowl for shells for my Paella was too small to hold the shells and apart from the shell fish there was no chicken or other fish but only spicy sausage which made the dish more spicy than it should have been. The room was quite warm but they had neither A/C nor even a fan to cool it. But the waiter was cool, or should I say cold, we were never asked if we enjoyed the meal. Never again."

  • "We were seated in a room with three large parties (we were 2) - with reservations - and proceeded to eat in an atmosphere slightly quieter than a rock concert. We literally couldn't hear one another speak from 2 feet away. The waiter mentally calculated his tip & I couldn't even get an ordered drink before my dinner arrived. We would have left, changed tabled, etc. if we had realized how unspeakably uncomfortable the $75 meal was going to be. To be fair - the food was utterly delicious, but beware of your seating arrangement."

  • "Carmel has lots of good restaurants but very few great ones. In fact, Grasings is the only great restaurant in Carmel. They often have Abalone, which is a treat and everything on the menu is prepared beautifully. The scallops were served in a delicious sauce, the heirloom tomatoes tasted of a past era and the steak melted in your mouth. Our east coast friends were greatly impressed. We've never had a bad meal at Grasings in six years."

  • "We started with the onion tart which literally melts in your mouth. Next was the abalone appetizer - 4 delectable medallions on the freshest greens. Just the taste we came here for. The sea bass on great northern white beans with spinach and mushrooms was complex and delicious. It comes with bacon which we omitted. We finished with the Caesar salad which was disappointing. Even the anchovies we requested didn't help the bland dressing. We would still recommend this restaurant; it's truly a gem."

  • "This was our first time to Carmel. Didn't realize there were no addresses on the buildings but had no problem finding this resturant. The menu had something for everyone. The food we chose was light and very flavor able. Being from New Orleans we are used to incredible food and flavors and are never sure what we are going to find in other areas. Would recommend this resturant to anyone visiting the Carmel by the Sea area. Wish we had more time to have a cocktail at the bar."

  • "We have been to Grasing's twice, once for lunch and this time for dinner. Both times we have left not only with a great dining experience, but more importantly a treasured Carmel memory. Meal was top drawer, Martini's were some of the best ever (which is really saying something), and service was just perfect. We brought our golden retriever, so sat out on the patio, but that didn't take away at all from the ambiance as this place has it in spades. The inside was lovely and romantic, and the bar scene was jumping. What more could one ask?"

  • "we had the Caesar salad, paella and bone-in veal chop. all very good. in the paella, they use orzo instead of rice, but it works well. nice rich seafood broth. the veal was one of the most tender cuts of meat i've ever had. garlic mashed potatoes had a silky smooth texture. we enjoyed a polish mule cocktail (in a copper mug) and the montagna cabernet. our dog was cozy and comfortable at our feet."

  • "We were in Carmel for 3 days for our anniversary and so glad we chose Grasing's one night. My wife had the Beet Salad and then the Abalone (first time) and she loved it. I had the Crab Cakes and Scallops and they were delicious. We also had a nice bottle of wine. We are from NY and when we entered the restaurant one of the Stanley Cup Final hockey games were on between the NY Rangers and LA Kings. I stopped to check out the score and for the rest of the evening the hostess would come back and give me updates. The wait staff and overall service were outstanding. We had a great time and almost went back the next night.....but wanted to try something else. Ended up not being as good as Grasing's. Would HIGHLY recommend it."
