A word from Grasing's
Grasing’s, located in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea, lies along the Pacific Coast in Central California in Monterey County. It is 120 miles south of San Francisco, 70 miles south of San Jose and 350 miles north of Los Angeles.

Celebrity chef partners, Kurt Grasing and Narsai David, truly created a gem.   • "This was our first time to Carmel. Didn't realize there were no addresses on the buildings but had no problem finding this resturant. The menu had something for everyone. The food we chose was light and very flavor able. Being from New Orleans we are used to incredible food and flavors and are never sure what we are going to find in other areas. Would recommend this resturant to anyone visiting the Carmel by the Sea area. Wish we had more time to have a cocktail at the bar."

  • "We were in Carmel for 3 days for our anniversary and so glad we chose Grasing's one night. My wife had the Beet Salad and then the Abalone (first time) and she loved it. I had the Crab Cakes and Scallops and they were delicious. We also had a nice bottle of wine. We are from NY and when we entered the restaurant one of the Stanley Cup Final hockey games were on between the NY Rangers and LA Kings. I stopped to check out the score and for the rest of the evening the hostess would come back and give me updates. The wait staff and overall service were outstanding. We had a great time and almost went back the next night.....but wanted to try something else. Ended up not being as good as Grasing's. Would HIGHLY recommend it."

  • "we had the Caesar salad, paella and bone-in veal chop. all very good. in the paella, they use orzo instead of rice, but it works well. nice rich seafood broth. the veal was one of the most tender cuts of meat i've ever had. garlic mashed potatoes had a silky smooth texture. we enjoyed a polish mule cocktail (in a copper mug) and the montagna cabernet. our dog was cozy and comfortable at our feet."

  • "Not dog friendly in spite Of advertising. A cold patio and rickety tables were the option. We chose to eat inside W/o dog although she was a service dog undocumented, her owner a recovering cancer patient forgot the papers. Our server was excellent and so was the maple duck and wine options. The lamb very good but couscous very ordinary. On the whole not great experience for the price. Management might practice listening to their guests especially when disabilities are obviously present."

  • "Grasing's is our "go-to" restaurant for special occasions. We love having the fine dining experience with the ambiance of an open and hospitable staff. I feel like royalty when I'm there. I'm from San Francisco, but would easily rate Grasing's as one of my all-time favorites. The scallops with marsala sauce, wild mushrooms and cheese ravioli left me intoxicated -- in a good way! But, if you like to get a happy buzz for brunch, they offer a lovely brunch with unlimited mimosas."

  • "We have experianced very slow service, two times in a row. It could be the server, we had him both times; but waiting an hour and 15 minutes for an entree is not acceptable. The other comment I would make is be careful where you are seated, many tables are in a traffic pattern and you get bumped by servers all during the meal."

  • "After walking by this lovely looking restaurant, couldn't wait to try it! Booked for a late lunch after seeing a very creative sounding and 'adult' Grilled Cheese with Carmelized Onions and Tomatoes on the menu. Being a vegetarian, always looking for interesting choices! We were the only ones in the beautiful dining room, window table...perfect! Then...the food came. Meh...no...really...poor. I ate the good salad that came with mine and my husband said his fries were 'ok'. The grilled cheese was barely edible...the onions were not at all carmelized, the bread very poor, and the cheese..tasteless. Happily, the price was reasonable. I would not go back nor recommend. Too many other great options to put up with this kind of food:(."

  • "Grasing's never let's me down. Dinner for my husband's birthday was truly special. Extra special touches like decorating the table cloth with birthday glitter, a birthday card from Kurt Grasing himself and Daryl and his staff were extremely attentive without being overbearing. The bone-in Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection and the Diver Scallops with Bok Choy over spinach ravioli was divine. I would recommend Grasing's with a big thumbs up! "

  • "We previously visited Grasing's for brunch and rated it 4-5 stars, We looked forward to returning since we were celebrating a special occasion, which was acknowledged by the Grasing's staff. The cream of asparagus soup was very rich and hot. The goat cheese appetizer complimented the soup quite well. The fish of the day, sole was served with a lemon-pepper breading (which we were not told), had to be scraped off the very delicate fish because the person ordering it has a allergy to pepper. The veggie salad was healthy with large pieces of chewy vegetables. The eggplant sandwich was very tasty but the quinoa salad was completely bland (and we all commented that Whole Foods has better quinoa.) Overall lunch food--3.5 stars"

  • "I took my wife here to celebrate our anniversary. The charcuterie appetizer was plentiful and delicious, with things we'd never tried before. Our entrees arrived hot and with great service. Dessert was nothing unique but still delicious! Our waiter was kind enough to help me slip a surprise present onto my wife's plate before it arrived. Easy to find location. If making reservations, be sure to request a seat in the bay window- it's the best in my opinion. Very, very good portions for the price!"

  • "Our hostess was very outgoing and made the start to our dinner engaging. Our server was new and you could tell. He wasn't fully knowledgeable with the menu. I expected the service to be much more attentive. No extra bowl or plate for my appetizer (paella which was delicious) so I had to use my bread plate which was taken away-along with my fork. My other critique is the tables are VERY close to one another - very limited private conversations. The main entrées however were delicious. Really good. The wine as well - terrific. My seasonal fruit crisp dessert (apple) was just so-so. Overall it was a nice evening and the food was very good. I'd recommend but I think I would try other restaurants in Carmel for a stronger comparison."

  • "We enjoyed our lunch immensely. It was an eclectic menu and it was hard to decide what to eat! The ambience of the wood ceilings and the decorative chandeliers added to the atmosphere! My only issue is that I had the truffled/cheddar popcorn and while the flavors were good, it appeared that the popcorn hadn't been made just moments before and it may have been microwaved. It didn't have that fresh, piping hot flavor. I've had a variation of this dish before and where I had it at another restaurant the popcorn was freshly popped (not microwaved) and right out of the pan. A difference that you could really taste! "

  • "My husband and I dined at Grasing's as a special treat after our small, intimate wedding last week. The staff was incredibly friendly and when they found out we were newlyweds, they gave us very special attention. We have eaten in many fine restaurants in the Bay Area where we live and around the country on many trips. Our meal at Grasing's was the best we ever had! For the appetizer, we had the Calamari, which was sublime. The most tender calamari, paired with fried leek rings and green onions - marvelous! The portion was advertised as "petite" and it was more than enough for 2 people. I had the Maple Leaf Duck entree and my husband had the Seared Pepper Ahi Tuna. Both were exceptional. We will come back often when in Carmel."

  • "It was recommended to us by a local artist. We made reservations and were seated promptly. The staff is very friendly and professional. It is a beautiful restaurant. The drinks and wine list are extensive. The spiced manhattan I had was fantastic. We had the warm napa can age salad and it was tasty. We had filet mignon & halibut specials. They were both good. The halibut was served with mushrooms & brown rice and the mushrooms were a bit over cooked and chewey. Over all our experience was pretty good. The people are really what would make us go back. Such nice ambiance. "

  • "We dine at Grasings every time we come to Carmel. Yet this time the food was mediocre. It may have been because they had just finished a rush of orders from the members of the Monterey symphony. And the kitchen was backed up and less attentive to the dishes. The mashed potatoes were over cooked and sticky. The abalone, even though it was said to be Dore style it was served in the shell drenched in oil. I expected it to be dipped in egg lightly floured and sautéed. We saturated with an artichoke. Which was presented beautifully with crab on top. Yet the artichoke lacked flavor. Grilling it first would have made an improvement. We will come again but for now the review is "hit or miss". "
