Diner Reviews
  • "Had a truly wonderful dining experience at Grasing"
    Dined on 4/9/2014
  • "Long story short, our customer service experience was off. When the steak came prepared wrong, which we understand can happen, the waiter never came back to our table to ask how our food was. We didn't see him until the plates were cleared. Any acknowledgement could have turned our experience around. Disappointed."

  • "Had a great meal at Gasings in Carmel. Definitely will return when in Carmel."
    Dined on 3/24/2014
  • "Been wanting to try this place for a long time, and found that I had missed out on all those times I chose another place. Our first experience there was in February for just drinks and appetizers. Gina was a great bartender and appetizers were killer. So, on our next trip back to Carmel, we did dinner. So glad we chose Grasing's. The swordfish was the best my wife has ever eaten. My lamb chops were superb and cooked like lamb should be. All in all, tha food, ambience and friendly service will do you well to choose Grasing's on your next trip to Carmel"

  • "We have dined at Grasing's on many occasions and particularly look forward to dining there - especially during the holidays. We have always had very good experiences! In the last year or so things have taken a turn for the worse; mediocre food, poor service and that door in the dining room that constantly lets in the blast of cold air makes for quite an unpleasant ambiance."

  • "celebrating our anniversary here was perfect...Paula our server was welcoming and suggested the perfect Pinot Noir to pair with my veal chop and my wife's petite filet...the side of juicy mushrooms paired well with both entrees. We will return again for a wonderfully prepared meal and a perfect evening in Carmel!"
    Dined on 3/25/2014
  • "The food and wine list are exceptional, my only recommendation would be to make the portion sizes a tad smaller. Size of the portions forces you into the appetizer section for your entrees."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "Outstanding food but server Sabrina had an attitude."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "This restaurant had been highly recommended by a relative. We travel a great deal and have eaten in many fantastic places around the world. This was good but not outstanding. Service was spotty and for what we had, food was expensive and wine VERY expensive. While we enjoyed our evening the experience wasn't the fabulous one we were expecting."
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "Food was delicious, service was problematic and the staff was very apologetic. Always a nice meal"
    Dined on 3/18/2014
  • "Once more a very nice - and highly anticipated - dining experience was overshadowed by poor table placement. Reservation made a week in advance resulted in a table for two nestled between server's station, kitchen access and sentry-like busboy attention station. Although they moved us quickly and with apologies, as returning diners, a nicer table would have been appreciated...and yes there were others available. And high prices are fine for great food, but it doesn't mean a single plating has to be big enough for a party of two. I always feel bad returning half a plate to the dumpster because there simply wa too much to eat. Or at least advise the size of the platter."

  • "The crab cakes were the best I have had on the peninsula! Grasings is a great place for a quiet lunch with friends. The hostess was a bit abrupt, but everyone else was very pleasant."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "We had another delightful lunch at Grasing's. The food was tasty and the service was top notch."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "It started off great. Delicious crab cake appetizer. My main course was a scallop dish. It looked like someone threw the kitchen sink in the dish. Scallops were over cooked. We also had the duck dish which was ok. This is a chop house so maybe we should have stuck to beef. The dessert, bread pudding was just ok ad well. Hardly any apples or carmel in it. I don't mind paying a high price for good food but this was expensive and disappointing"
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Service and place were very good. However, we were very disappointed with the food. My wife order a paella and it was really bad. She could not eat it, and had stomach problems during the evening. I order the filet minon. Meat was very tender but sauce for the steak was not appropriate. It was a semi sweet sauce that do not match that piece of meat."

  • "My girlfriends and I wanted to go out to a nice dinner while we were vacationing in Carmel and this place is fabulous! The service, food, drinks were all top notch. We didn't realize there was an outdoor seating area and would have preferred outside, so take note when making a reservation. Overall a very good experience."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "We always have Grasings on our "must" list when in Carmel. The dining room menu is always creative, and for a light dinner we think the bar menu is perfect. Staff is always welcoming and service is spot on."
    Dined on 2/20/2014
  • "We've always enjoyed Grazings; this visit was as good as any! Food, service, ambiance all great - a wonderful evening on our first nite in Camel"
    Dined on 2/17/2014
  • "terrific location in heart of downtown Carmel. uber friendly hostess who provided slew of info on local places to see, e.g., Pt Lobos (which also turned out to be great!) service was friendly, prompt most delicious fried calamari ever - order the grande as it's worth it! chicken sandwich pretty good; not dry big salad (a la Seinfeld!)"
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "Great food, top notch service. A little crowded and noisy. We will return."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "We love the service, ambiance, food and wine at Grasing's. The abalone is our absolute favorite!!!"
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "The resteraunt prices suggested the food might be good but they was not the case. The lamb and duck were over cooked and dry. The sides we're good but a bit salty. They have a massive wine list and mixed a good martini."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "We were there on Valentines Day, so it was busy. But because there are three different rooms (plus a lovely outside terrace) the restaurant felt intimate and wasn't too noisy. The service was superb. The artichoke-stuffed lasagna was the best my husband ever tasted, and my sea scallops were outstanding. A wonderful restaurant."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "This is a nice lunch spot just off the main drag, near the Carmel Library. The setting and decor in the two little dining rooms are elegant. There are a few tables on a quiet courtyard in the back and a separate, nice bar with a TV for sports fans. The food was good. The service was a little awkward, but that was probably a fluke. It. Is a nice spot to land if you've been up and down Ocean Avenue and are ready to take a break at a locals' spot."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "The food was good, but not good value. The waiter was very attentive and pleasant but preferred to talk rather than listen. The back room where we're put had no atmosphere"
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE ON ALL LEVELS!. THE MENU SELECTIONS WERE VERY DIVERSIFIED .MY DINNER WAS PAELLA AND IT WAS THE BEST I EVER HAD.THE WAITERS MADE EVERYONE FEEL SPECIAL. EVERY COURSE WAS FANTASTIC. THE PRICES WERE NOT OUT OF SITE AND WORTH EVERY PENNY. CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK."
    Dined on 2/9/2014
  • "It was just awful. Didn't have the wine we wanted. 2 of us ordered the lobster mac & cheese to be told they are not quite ready yet then to ask several times how long it would take "oh like 3 hours". Only one person got their salad, 2 of us got our main course followed immediately by our starter the other got her starter at the same time as the salad so we had 7 plates on the table at the same time. We got one piece of bread & no more offered. Spilled our wine on one of us and only offered a napkin to clean up. How about replacing the wine. Another server knocked over our entire wine bucket and spilled everything. Nothing offered to compensate for the mess."

  • "Food is consistently outstanding Had red abalone and paella (while appetizers these make great small plates) and cheese plate. Abalone is sustainably sourced in Monterey, (lightly breaded and sautéed) in shell and on bed of fresh artesian lettuce and Japanese cabbage dressed in very light extra virgin olive oil and white vinegar. Had before, always outstanding. Had the Catena Malbec wine by the glass - exquisite with hints of cinnamon. Dessert was a selection of cheeses, dried fruit, and honey infused with white truffle oil. Great dipping sauce for the aged Manchego. Dessert was complimented by 20 year Dow tawny port -- recommended by server over more expensive choices - thank him for introducing me to"

  • "Nice upper end type restaurant. Service was fantastic and food was great. Wish their was a little more room at the tables we were a couple sitting next to a couple who were right on top of us. Over all great night out and worth the money!!"

  • "Had a lovely dinner at Grasings. Good service, very good dinner. We will be back when we return to Carmel."
    Dined on 2/7/2014
  • "From the moment you enter the restaurant, the service begans. All staff are keyed in on your every movement. The wine list is extensive and the staff is knowledgable. The food from starters to finish was magnificent. Can't wait to return."

  • "My husband and I went to Grasings for my birthday dinner while we were in Carmel. Our server was Paula. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating! We shared the wedge salad which was terrific. The kitchen split it onto two plates and it certainly was a big enough salad for two! Bursting with blue cheese, bacon and onion flavors on crisp iceberg wedge. My husband had the Paella and it was filled with shrimp, sausage, mussels, clams and orzo in a not too spicy but fabulous sauce. Plenty for me to lean over the table and help myself to some! I had an artichoke (it is artichoke country) filled with a crab salad. Paula helped us choose the perfect wine and brought us a lovely dessert for my birthday. A wonderful evening."

  • "Good food. Good Service. Nothing outstanding, but just a nice place to eat."
    Dined on 1/21/2014
  • "We spent a week in Carmel to celebrate a big birthday. My favorite dinner was at Grasing's...and I know food as my husband is an award winning chef himself. Try it; you will be glad you did...and the price is reasonable for the quality that you get...far better than other Carmel restaurants. Paula was the perfect server...always with a smile."

  • "My husband and I have eaten at Grasings many times before. The room farthest from the entry (where we were sitting) has a door right in the middle leading to the outside patio. Having the door opened and closed constantly by the wait staff serving the outside diners was very disruptive to those of us inside and created a constant draft of cold air. Be sure to ask for a table as far away from the door as possible. Our waiter seemed unfocused. We were never told the specials and weren't aware there were any until we heard him reciting them to another table. It took 45 minutes just to get our salad. Once our entrees came the food was not up to par even though the chef was very visible in the dining room. Very disappointing evening overall."

  • "Told waitress we had a concert pending, the service was prompt, very friendly, and not rushed. Water glasses, constantly filled, soft drink order refreshed without asking, all staff attentive, did not push bottled or sparkling water(a plus), manager came by to ask how dinner was, everything you expect."
    Dined on 1/15/2014
  • "Very good but a bit of the service was too casual for the price offered."
    Dined on 1/7/2014
  • "I always enjoy having brunch at Grasing's. We were greeted warmly by the owner and our wait person saw to every detail. We had the endless brunch with unlimited mimosas. We each had 3 mimosas and having watched the last 2 being poured I can say that they were probably 3/4 champagne. The garden omelet and the eggs benedict were perfect as were the potatoes. This is a place we will go back to many times."

  • "Thank you so much for the wonderful memories made for my Mothers 98 Birthday. The table and decorations were so sweet...not to mention the hand written note from Kurt. Her birthday wish made on her desert candle was to live to 99. No problem for this fabulous person, she still climbs on the roof, and takes care of her 5 plus acres of land. I have had lunch several times in the bar area, and the cheese sandwich is to die for. In fact I am planning on coming back in 10 days with several friends...Thank you again for being so attentive to every detail."
