  • "We will not be back soon. Excellent wine list and very interesting choices. Too bad the food isn't worth eating with it. When the new owners took over the food was inconsistent, some dishes good and some not so good. Now it is consistent - consistently poor. Out of four different main courses, all were bland or just off. Seafood was particularly poor. It would have been better to skip dinner and just drink wine at the bar. Very few diners were around which suggests word is spreading. A pure guess is that the original chef is gone or not there all the time. Poor meals constituted between 50% and 100% of what was ordered over last 4 visits. We hope the owners will recognize the problem and correct it as it has potential."

This is my third occasion there with friends and we were all very happy with the experience. Sharing the bounty, each dish we ordered had its own claim to to excellence These are the best scallops around, I believe, and the salmon was extraordinary and very delicate in its after taste. The pork chop is brine marinated, and incredibly tasty. Round this experience out with select beers and carefully thought out wines, and the Grapevine is a true gem in Salem."

  • "The Grapevine is a favorite for us. Unlike past dinners there, the restaurant had only a few patrons. Usually, the place is full, the atmosphere warm and welcoming and the pace relaxed and enjoyable. The food is consistently terrific. The salmon was tender and flavorful, the polenta to accompany was different but complementary and the bread pudding like no other I have ever had. Wines by the bottle are plentiful and diverse, but the chardonnay by the glass, limited. The last time we were there, the bar tender was wiling to offer a half glass as a second glass, which is rare and was just right."

  • "My husband and I have never been to the Grapevine. We wanted to go to a more quiet place with another couple so we could talk. It was perfect for that! The martini drinks(they had our new favorite vodka, Titos) were amazing with delicious blue cheese stuffed olives. The dishes were light like the tomato salad and the fish stew(like a chioponi). The portions were small however. We liked this since we didn't feel overly full at the end. This left us room for dessert. I had the bread pudding which was excellent and not too sweet and my friend had the creme brulee! Overall our experience was great thanks to our waitress who was about 3 weeks from giving birth. I would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "My husband and I went to our favorite restaurant, The Grapevine, again! This time was for Valentine's Day. We almost never go out for this holiday because places are so crowded. I am so glad we decided to try it this time and that we chose this venue to go to. The service was impeccable as usual. The servers, as busy as they were on this evening, made it a point to come up and say hello because they remember us from all the times we have been there in the past. Usually months go by until we go to the Grapevine again, so we are always amazed that we are remembered among all their other customers. It is such a wonderful experience. The food, ambience and service were as wonderful as always. I can't wait to go back again!"

The waitress provided excellent service, topping off the experience. I would recommend this restaurant and will plan to go back in warmer weather when the outdoor dining is available."

  • "My boyfriend and I had the perfect dining experience on Saturday night at The Grapevine. There is virtually nothing about the experience that I would change or improve upon. The ambience was quiet with romantic music playing and candlelight on the tables. Our server, Shane, was absolute perfection, appearing to pour water or offer more bread at just the right time, and he was very knowledgeable about all the menu options. As a vegetarian, it can be challenging to find good options on the menu but the porcini ravioli here was superb, as was the butternut squash soup and everything else we had. I can't wait to come back during the warmer months to try the outdoor space--it looked stunning! On a scale of 1-100, this is definitely a '100'"

  • "My wife and I chose The Grapevine after searching for Mediterranean food in Salem. Everything was perfect. Low level lighting and nice music provided great ambience for a relaxing night out. The menu provided a wide offering of Mediterranean fare and the wine list was extensive. We both enjoyed the locally made artisan bread along with a fresh arugula salad followed by the Sopa de Pescado. The wait staff was very attentive and pleasant. We highly recommend The Grapevine for terrific food and atmosphere. We stayed at the Salem Waterfront hotel and it turned out The Grapevine was right across the street"

The food was warm but should have been hot. Service became lazy towards the end of our meal. These are fixable problems. I would definitely dine at the Grapevine again."

  • "We chose Grapevine for our New Year's Eve dinner and couldn't be more pleased. The atmosphere was romantic and festive, the service splendid, and the food outstanding. Each table had hats, sparkly decoration, and party favors - a great welcoming touch. The kitchen produced superb dishes - we especially enjoyed the fois gras, arugula salad, venison, and leg of lamb. The entire staff were superbly attentive and put on a perfect evening to greet 2014. Thank you!"

  • "Food was poorly prepared. Squash soup was bland, lacking taste. Sirloin steak was thin, full of fat and gristle, tasteless.$30.00 for this steak. Porcini ravioli had a thick wine reduction which overwhelmed the dish. Making it inedible. Brussel sprouts were undercooked. Scallops were tasteless. The chocolate moose was prepared well. The waiter spilled a dish of whipped cream all over my husbands pants. The restaurant changed hands, owners and chefs about 18 months ago, previously, it had been a great neighborhood gem. Would never return."

The food was top notch with the only issue being the pork chop one of us had tasted as if it had been in a brine a bit too long. Excellent wine and great service. I would definitely return."

  • "We've been going to the Grapevine a few times year for about 10 years. We always find something interesting and delicious, but wish the menu was just a tad bigger. The brined chicken is delicious, though salty by definition. Salmon was perfect. Flat-iron steak was great for a flat-iron steak, but would have preferred a rib-eye or sirloin. Would have liked to see a seasonal dish like duck (though a confit was part of an appetizer), venison, or stew. Very good wine list as well. The atmosphere is great - cozy but not stuffy. The owner came to the table to greet us and see how things were - much appreciated. Prices are very reasonable (about $100 for a nice dinner for 2 with wine and dessert). Wonderful desserts and great coffee."

Drunken raisin bread pudding ... YUMMM! My friend lost her bracelet and they even called us to let us know they found it. Very classy place. I would definitely go back."

Even the staff that weren't waiting on us engaged in conversation about our costumes. Extensive wine list and graat knowledge about it. Small menu, keeps it simple. Great variety considering.
