GrapeseedMother's Day ExperienceI took my daughter for dinner on her first mother's day here. The food was outstanding, they have an extensive wine list and a room with wines displayed. I am definitely going again. It is a hidden treasure in an unexpected place with Valet parking. The middle course was good caesar salad and a cold pea and cream soup. The main course was a little disappointing. We had the filet and the pork chop - both were a little tough. Food is incredible, American fusion and very imaginative. Service was attentive and intelligent! Wine list is simply excellent, and with new MD law one can take one's unused wine home. The servings were a bit on the small side, for the price that is. $15 for 5 pieces of ahi tuna, about the size of a 50 cent coin. I gave them 4 stars because of the service. We walked in at 8:15 for an 8:30 reservation and stood at the host stand for about a minute until the gentleman standing there finally looked up and asked if he could help. Then we were sat in the back of the restaurant, which wasn't bad at all, except that our server didn't realize we were there for at least 10 minutes. She did admit that she didn't see us and apologized. Overall, a decent experience. I do think that this restaurant tries to be fancier than it really is -- overpriced and way too loud. Always have some vegetarian or pescatarian fare along with a wide variety of finely prepared dishes for meat and poultry lovers. Wine pairings offered and wine selection broad and deep. For lightweights like me, can get a 2 oz. poor and still enjoy the wine experience. The service was individual and attentive, and the food was was brilliantly prepared with an enticing mix of traditional ingredients and sparkling use of veggies and spices. My deep fried oysters were plump inside crispy delicious, and I would love to know what it was in the sautéed vegetables and sauce under my yummy pork chop that made the whole dish divine. I came with friends seeking excellent food in an ambience without too much noise, and found both. But even though the place was empty by then, we enjoyed fresh and delicious food, including an omelete. Both of us enjoyed the selection available, as it was a buffet style setup. The service was very good and friendly and they never made us feel as if they wanted to go home. We were literally the only people there at the time we started to eat. The food was outstanding, each dish was flavorful and well prepared. The short rib was the best I have ever tasted. It fell apart with just a fork. The calamari was spicy and balanced. The service is impeccable--everything done just right. The wine was presented and served just as it was supposed to be done: clearly, Grapseed invested in properly training its wait staff. Unlike so many places that aspire to be classy and get it all wrong, Grapeseed gets it all right. You'll look at the menu and be sad that by ordering one thing you won't be ordering something else. It is one of or solid stand-bys -- we have always enjoyed the food. A few comments of note this time around: (a) the service we had this visit was truly outstanding - attentive, but not disruptive, just all around superior; (b) the calamari appetizer always delivers, and we always enjoy the grilled caesar salad; (c) we have found their desserts to not be their strong suit; and (d) the menu seemed to be a bit stale - did not seem to have changed much, if at all, over the past 4-6 months; perhaps we were just a few weeks before an upcoming change.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a great dinner last night.Had a great dinner last night. It's creative, but not edgy dishes are uniformly delicious. The atmosphere is not pretentious or faux hip. Service is attentive and sophisticated. (No "how are you guys doing?" or leaving used forks to be reused for the next course.) The food was a bit too salty for both of us but we still enjoyed it. We asked to sit in the back of the restaurant because we could tell when we came in that it was loud.
