A word from Grape & Vine
An American Restaurant & Bar at the Jade Hotel Greenwich Village.

Grape & Vine is a vibrant American restaurant and bar serving artisanal, market-driven fare in an elegant, cosmopolitan setting reminiscent of 1920's speakeasy.

A little history: The original Grape & Vine (the Grapevine) was located on the southeast corner of Sixth Avenue and 11th Street. It attracted artists, actors, litterateurs, businessmen and politicians. The Grapevine was such a gathering spot of conversation, that the phrase “I heard it through the grapevine” originated here. (It derives it's name from the fact that a grapevine used to cover the 11th Street side of the tavern.)

Diner Reviews
  • "My friend and I went to Grape and Vine for Restaurant Week and had the restaurant week menu. I have to say the options, while tasty, were not that exciting. Even if it is restaurant week, I would hope a restaurant would serve more than just fruit in syrup for dessert. The flatbread I had was very good and the goat cheese ravioli looked good but only came with four pieces of pasta. My fish was pretty tough. The waitress was polite but not impressive and the ambiance was fun, but didn't make up for the moderately good food. I would just say I hope their regular menu is better than the restaurant week menu."

  • "Great restaurant. Food was excellent, service attentive and the look and feel of the restaurant was old world classic. Wonderful brunch spot."

  • "Came here with a group of 7, the hostess got confused in the beginning and sat the first half of the party on one side of the restaurant and when the second half arrive she sat them on the other side. Luckily one of my friends has a distinctive accent that I could recognize from across the dark room and I realized the mix up before we thought they stood us up. Besides that and service being sightly on the slow side (for a restaurant that wasn't crazy busy or anything) I thought Grape & Vine was perfect for dinning out with friends, that is if you aren't in a rush and you want a cozy, comfortable place to dine in with tasty food and it quiet enough to hear each other."

  • "Took advantage of restaurant week and tried this venue. Special restaurant week menu was very limited. The tomato/watermelon appetizer was excellent and the goat cheese ravioli as well. My husband tried the skate. All food was great, but portions were small. I rarely finish everything on my plate and this time I scraped my plate and went home hungry. Even after dessert. Not sure if portions would have been larger if ordering off the regular menu."

  • "Couple of the dishes were really good but the portions were small (we got a second meal after leaving!) and the restaurant week menu was just okay. I'd go back for their regular menu, but there are much better spots for Rest. Wk in the city."

  • "Located in the beautiful boutique Jade Hotel in the West Village this all purpose hotel spot becomes a magical spot come nightfall. Try the Fried Chicken Dinner for Two (and yes I know how that sounds but trust me try it)."

  • "This is a charming restaurant on a charming street in a charming neighborhood. BUT the charm stops there. Though the food was good (when it FINALLY arrived) it didn't make up for the lackadaisical service or attitude of the wait staff. Arrived at 5:55 for a 6:00 reservation, seated immediately, then didn't receive appetizers until 30 minutes in, and dinner was finally delivered after an hour, and only because we asked the manager to please find out where our food was. Too bad, because the potential for this to be a wonderful place is great."

  • "Husband's parent's were in town so decided to try out Grape & Vine. We got here early so had a drink in their front lounge. Really relaxing and intimate setting, so we loved that! Got seated right at 8:15pm in a comfy booth. Service was great and the food was even better! We got the salmon flatbread for an appetizer and it was honestly some of the freshest, tastiest salmon ever. Highly recommend getting this while there! We also got the mushroom flatbread which was really good too. I got the Branzino grilled with the romesco sauce and it was delicious. The side of asparagus was also cooked perfectly. The hubby got the steak and scarfed it down. Overall a great experience and great food! Loved the atmosphere!"

  • "Great food, good service and the setting is lovely. Flatbreads were a treat, the burrata and kale salad both delicious and the duck disappeared quickly. "

  • "Grape & Vine is located in the lower level (dare I say "basement") of The Jade Hotel (side note) if Grape & Vine is any indication of the Hotel well then, "Book a room"!. We entered down a "semi" Grand Staircase into a very European feel lounge area. Then taken to the back seating area at our banquette seating against the walls, very nice, our festive waiter trotted over, read us the riot act of specials, (saw nothing but FRIED CHICKEN....WTF!!! get it!!!). Great cocktail menu, (didn't even realize the 3 that I pounded down whilst waiting). There was a party going on couple feet away from us, didn't even know they were there, until I looked over. Great Night, (all the best Terri, Cheers D!) "

  • "Great brunch! The ambience was very cool...almost speakeasy like. The food was also good. I enjoyed the cold-pressed juices, and my chicken club was very good. "

  • "A friend had recentlybrought me to Grape and Vine for an after-dinner drink and it was the perfect spot for a quiet, non-scene bar with ambiance and character. We thought we would try Easter Dinner there and the food was genuinely delicious, interesting and well done. I can't believe more people haven't caught on to this spot. "

  • "This was a date night for us ( we have a baby) and we were looking forward to a night of good food. We were really disappointed when my husband got the 21 DAY DRY-AGED NEW YORK STRIP. Immediately when it arrived it had an odor that was not pleasant nor appropriate for a steak. He took a bite of the steak and he was not able to swallow it. He then ordered the BELL & EVANS CHICKEN. By the time it had arrived, I had finished my meal. The chicken was a bit better but still under cooked. I ordered the yellow fin tartar and it too did not have a pleasant odor but edible."

  • "Fresh oysters, nice wine, delicious flatbreads and so cozy. The nicest discovery in months! I will go back any time !!"

  • "We really enjoyed the steak tartare, oysters and burrata. The dishes were good sizes and prepared beautifully. The lighting is dim and very romantic. Very good find."

  • "When you walk in the walls are covered with pictures taken by the longtime (only?) Village Voice photographer Fred W. McDarrah. All are cool Village scenes, people and events. Sets a good vibe. It stays good as food is interesting, delicious, and not skimpy in the portion department. Way better than a regular hotel restaurant. Some ieners looked sort of too cool for school, but a lot looked like elegant bag ladies... a nice mix of folks."

  • "Came here on a Monday for a quick bite and a glass of wine and everyone was very pleasant and welcoming. The hostess showed me to my table and the server approached me shorty. I had the chorizo flatbread which was amazing and a must-try!!!! I also had the yellowtail tartare which I am not a big fan of but it was pretty decent. The ambiance was great and overall I had a pleasant dining experience. The manager Theo also approached my table to see if everything was well. All in all i can say I had a pleasant dining experience!!! Will definitely come back and bring some friends over probably on a weekend this time."

  • "The steak was WAY oversalted to the point that it was inedible. Steak was chewy and hard to cut. Scallop appetizers was way too small a portion though was cooked properly. I am just appalled with how horrendous the steak was prepared. Truly inexcusable."

  • "Have eaten in the restaurant before and had drinks/apps in the lounge and can say that both areas are beautifully decorated. This is a good place to take groups. The apps are stronger than the entrees. Bottles of wine are all on the expensive end. Both times, the service was slow. My last trip there was a $45 error on my bill."

  • "I researched about this restaurant on open table while trying to find a restaurant within walking distance in NYC. I liked there menu as we have eaters that require vegetarian foods as well as decent portions. We were seated right after arriving, near a warm fireplace. The table wasn't crammed with other diners which tends to be the case in many NYC places. We ordered salads and the sizes were great. I ordered a steak with Arugula and it was cooked to perfection. My husband ordered fried chicken and he was raving about it 1 day later about how great it was and not greasy at all. I would love to go back again! highly recommend the place."

  • "A couple friends and I came here for restaurant week. We had to call for our waiter to take our order because he took so long. We were disappointed by the meager food sizes. My friends ordered the scallops for the first course, and on the plate were two thin scallops floating in a pink bath of sauce. I got the mussel soup for my first course, which tasted delicious. For the second course, I ordered the ox-tail pasta, which was a single circular ravioli stuffed with jerky ox-tail meat. Although seasoned spectacularly, the ravioli was not soft and the meat was chewy. The friends ordered the steak, which was too chewy. The food was such a disappointment, the service slow. The mood was romantic."

  • "Grape & Vine was very good. The service was highly attentive as the waiter went out of his way to make sure that we had everything we needed. Overall the food was good and well portioned. Also it was easy to hear one another because the noise level was better than most places despite the amount of people. I recommend Grape & Vine and would consider returning the next time we're in the area."

  • "The waiter was slow and took at least 30 min to bring appetizers. Our guests started unxiois while we were waiting because they had meetings in early morning on the next day."

  • "My scallop appetizer had 1 scallop (cut in quarters). My ravioli entrée had one ravioli. Dessert was normal sized"

  • "A very pleasant time. The service was friendly, but too slow (maybe because we were a large group). We found the portions to be too small."

  • "The warm surroundings with brick walls and tin ceilings were only made warmer by the attentive staff and amazing food . . much of it with a French flair. The scallop appetizer was cooked perfectly and presented beautifully with an amazing roasted pepper cream/butter. Yum! The mussel bisque was a new take on an old favorite - perfect for those who love the taste, but maybe not the texture of mussels. My only negative was that it was very noisy, but I believe that was due to the overwhelming response for Restaurant Week...good for them. This was our first time eating at Grape & Vine, but it definitely won't be our last."

  • "Came in through restaurant week, but will definitely be back. The ambiance was warm and inviting and the food was excellent! The service felt a smidge slow, but truthfully--it also feels nice not to be rushed through a meal these days. Though we didn't take advantage of it, there's a rather large lobby upfront that seems a perfect spot to stop and relax for a drink!"

  • "Food was fantastic, ambiance is really sweet (almost dark Parisian-esque cafe), but service was sloooooow. Super nice and knowledgeable, but very slow."
    Dined on 2/17/2014
  • "Scallop with beets was lovely, skirt steak yummy and then one of us got the pear tatin! What is usually a baked tarte turned out to be a pear, not in a pastry crust, just peeled and in the bowl with a scoop of ice cream on top! Pear was so hard, it took a knife and fork to cut, so we sent it back and got the cheesecake which was very nice. Chocolate mousse with orange was excellent."
    Dined on 2/17/2014
  • "The food was delicious but the service was SO BAD! it took forever to get a drink - even water once we sat and then an extremely long time for menus to arrive. We were there 4 hours and it really only needed to be 2 hours."

  • "Very nice restaurant. The host was great and always making sure we were ok. Our server was awful.... Had us waiting for 20minutes. Although he was friendly, it seemed like he was lost. I will go back, wanna try there dinner menu. It was valentines day and we had a limited menu"

  • "I've eaten at Grape and Vine quite a few times recently, and found it to be outstanding each time. From the moment you notice the Jade Hotel's vintage charm from the sidewalk, to the warm yet elegant lobby, to the welcoming restaurant in the back, the experience is pleasurable. Kudos to their floral designer as well. The flatbreads are all excellent. They have an amazing seasonal Burrata with figs; the flavor is unexpected and delightfully fresh. It was not available the other night, but we had a pomegranate appetizer that was equally delicious. Their baby beet salad is another go-to. The halibut is always cooked to perfection. The short ribs are a special treat. My friend's branzino was excellent. The Sundae is a perfect ending!"

  • "We went to see a play next door and wanted some dinner. We enjoyed the food - oyster and salmon tartar was yummy as was my husband's burger. I ordered the liver (a special that night). It was good, but a huge portion - too big. Our one complaint was the level of salt in the food. I tend to question restaurants that have to over salt in this way. I think for that reason, we would not go back. I never like leaving a restaurant with my hands and feet swelling!"

  • "When you go into Grape and Vine, you find that it's hidden. You feel like you're going on a clandestine visit. We went for lunch in the middle of the week so it wasn't very crowded. The only complaint is that the bread wasn't served warm - a small item, but should be noted if it's a big deal to you. The food was excellently done and was wonderful comfort food for a sub-zero NYC afternoon! GET THE BRUSSELS SPROUTS! You won't go wrong with those, nor the mac and cheese, the pumpkin ravioli, or soup. The new kale salad on the menu is a must-try. Wait staff was attentive and helpful but not intrusive. Definitely going back!"
