Diner Reviews
  • "Grant's is consistently good. I noticed a new menu, which was very nice, and kept some of the best dishes (Idaho trout). I was less impressed with the new wines though. Good service as always."

  • "loved the food but was very disappointed in the dirty martini - too much vermouth and not shaken/emulsified. a standard drink shouldn't be hard to master..."

  • "I have been to Grants several times, but never for brunch. We brought dad there for Father's Day brunch, all 6 of us loved our food and great cocktails too!"

  • "As usual the trout was exceptional. The pork chop was humongous and the scallops were demolished in a flash."

  • "I enjoyed the patio seating during the West Hartford Celebration. The food was delicious...even my picky teen was impressed."

  • "Great selection of appetizers to start with. Try the scallops and the trout - superb! Be sure to save room for the homemade ice cream! Attentive and friendly staff. Glad we discovered this great restaurant!"

  • "Went for post-graduation Sunday lunch/brunch. Took a little while to be greeted after seating but after that service was attentive. Food was very good, and reasonable, especially for West Hartford. Would go back. "

  • "Went for bday and hadn't been in 10 years. Love bricco's in Glastonbury. Very disappointed. Bar scene was so hopping we couldn't hear each other at our own table. If you come for dinner make sure you sit in back. Food was good but not great. Very buttery and salty but tasty because of that. Service was not high end but the price sure was. I would come back for the bar scene only on a Friday or Saturday night. They stuck a candle in a piece of cake that they charged us for my husbands birthday. On a $200 tab they could have done better. "

  • "I've thought Grant's has slipped from it's "top of the area" status after its opening, but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food this time. We had seared tuna, short ribs, and shared a kale salad (trendy!) All were very tasty, and I'd recommend them. Bring your big wallet, you'll need it."

  • "We had a great Mother's Day brunch. The food was delicious and service was very good."

  • "Really good restaurant with a nice decor. Wine was really good as well. One of downsides is limited menu for vegetarians. I did found some options from side dishes and salad, but I really want to see more variety. "

  • "For the first time in the many years I've been going to Grants, the service was very, very, slow. It was as if they forgot about us. I think it has somehting to do with the time we were there, 2:30pm. Overall, Grants, is the ultimate dining experience."

  • "Consistently at the top of their game. Great specials as well as standard fare you can rely on time and time again. Love the trout with lentils."

  • "We were celebrating two birthdays, we had a great table, and the food was fabulous. Their shrimp cocktail was the best I have had, and all of our steaks were perfect and tender. Loved it."

  • "My husband and I had a wonderful experience for our 29th anniversary. We had reservations, on a Sunday evening, and a requested table was ready for us. Upon entering, we were greeted by a gentleman who wished us a happy anniversary. Another (water?) did the same. Our waitress, Kelly, was terrific and constantly checked on us but kept her distance. We had a complimentary glass of champagne and we partook of the 50% off bottle of wine. We shared a chopped salad and it was still plentiful. The filet mignons were cooked to order, the accompany vegetables were great supplements and the shared apple cobbler? With ice cream was delicious. "

  • "Always reliable, fresh and interesting. A family favorite... why 4 stars? The bar scene and noise has overtaken the fine dining. The food is still delicious, the staff terrific but it's tough to hear a conversation and just relax. Not sure why it's so hip to have bare floors and windows, no sound absorbers in restaurants now???"

  • "My first time there for a business lunch, food and service was terrific. Would definitely go back."

  • "Always good ... always like it there. the food never disappoints. Service is always just right. Getting a table away from the bar area changes the whole experience from energetis to more relaxing."

  • "If you realize that you are just going to a pub, than you probably won't be disappointed by the food. We thought we were going to a fancy, upscale restaurant, which this isn't. The food is definitely better than low-end pub food, and they have a pretty large menu, but it is safest to order simple staples here, like a hamburger. The atmosphere and our waiter were very good."

  • "On a recent weekday evening, I visited Grant's with a small group for a quick dinner. As this was just after an Easter weekend of significant food consumption, I was conscious of making a lite choice for my meal, perhaps just soup and a salad. I was delighted to find a pistachio crusted trout entree with lentils and frisée salad on the menu. It was a perfect lite meal; the trout was delicious and moist and the frisée salad nicely dressed and a nice compliment. While the lentils were nice accompaniment to the fish I thought they were too vinegary. Along with a nice bottle of Pinot noir, it was a memorable meal."

  • "We enjoyed Easter dinner. The filet steak with mashed potatoes and slightly creamed spinach was tasty and worth recommending. No room for dessert. There are many other very good restaurants in West Hartford Center; Grant's is more casual and quite noisy when busy. "

  • "The food and service was outstanding. Dining was on a Saturday evening at the peak of dining. When dining in West Hartford, you must eat at Grants."

  • "Music in background is both too loud and at least on Easter Sunday woefully unappealing. I can't imagine that many of your customers want to hear music from the 1940's. Please think about what is playing and that it is too loud. This is why I am rating ambience low. Otherwise would be good. Music has been "goofy" other occasions too."

  • "Went for Easter with my family (mom, dad, brother, myself) for 2:30 pm reservations. Seated right away. Greeted promptly with waters, ordered drinks and wine. Sipped on wine a bit, then Courtney, our server, took our orders- salads and apps, and entrees for all. I started with the chopped salad which was excellent- could have been a meal in itself. For my entree I had the fennel and black crusted tuna with black rice and asparagus. I rarely order tuna out, so this was a nice treat. For dessert my dad and I shared the hazelnut cake- it was so good! Everyone enjoyed their entrees and Courtney was an excellent server. Will definitely be back!"

  • "Very fun, yummy place. Eclectic decor. Nice variety of foods. The chef was willing to make fish n chips, a special on the menu on a different night, for one of our guests on Saturday. Staff all willing to help make the meal special. We will go back!"

  • "All of Billy Grant's restaurants stand the test of time…consistently top quality food and service over a long period of time. The new brunch at Grants has a great menu that makes it very difficult to select one meal. His attention to detail is evident even in brunch items. A simple bowl of seasonal fruits presented with a touch of vanilla bean that enhanced the sweet fruit. The banana and Nutella pancakes made me feel like a little kid sneaking chocolate cake for breakfast!"

  • "A pedestrian suburban menu of all the standards in a garish room with strange furniture. My steak was perfectly fine though a bit cooler than it ought to have been, drenched in some kind of steak sauce. Given the price and the reputation in West Hartford, I had expected a more refined menu and better service. More like an overpriced neighborhood bar, one to which I shall not return."

  • "Been to Grants many times for a business dinner during the week. Decided to bring the family to test it over the weekend. Service was on their game that Saturday compared to during the week. Food was great as always....."

  • "It would have been better if the music weren't so loud. There is no reason for restaurants to play loud music. We go out to eat with friends to have conversation."

  • "It's a special place and a place for just a very good meal out. It's a busy restaurant and has been since its opening."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed an early Saturday dinner at Grant's. The service was fast, friendly and efficient, and the food was so delicious."

  • "Great experience at one of our favorite places. Our party started with the seviche (excellent) the beet salad (excellent) and the chopped salad (boring - great fresh ingredients, but not an imaginative combination; needs something more to bring it to life). Entrees included salmon, tuna, the filet and prime rib. All perfectly done and beautifully presented. Our server was friendly, professional, attentive and knowledgeable. We'll be back, but need to tear ourselves away and try Bricco first!"

  • "Our waiter took forever to first approach our table though it was not crowded. He wanted to immediately announce dinner specials but we wanted to order drinks. AFTER he brought the drinks he told is about the half price per bottle wine special. Our meals were excellent but the service continued to be slow and indifferent. It took too long to clear our dinner plates and by that time we were ready to leave. Disappointing and unusual for Grants"

  • "Brunch at Grant's is amazing!! The poached eggs on crab cakes is to die for!! You also can't go wrong with any of the brunch burgers-they will not disappoint!"

  • "The menu is great on paper. The food was good, but over salted. Dishes arrived altered from the menu. My brussel sprout and pear salad arrived with green apples instead of pears. (still good) Burger was served with regular fries instead of sweet potato fries on menu. Service lousy, impossible to flag down for drink refills. Slightly more attentive toward the end, but overall lacking of personality. Make sure if you are not into the bar scene to get an early reservation. The whole atmosphere changed from expensive restaurant to club before our eyes. Entertaining but not what i would expect from a restaurant that charges almost $50 for some of its dishes and not what i was looking for after a difficult week."

  • "Always enjoy grants. Good food- good choices and comfortable setting. Very busy and I find that seating for a party of 2 is. It always the best. They have a lot of "romantic seats" that are side by side. Not always the best seating for a couple of friends meeting."
