A word from Grange
Located in downtown Sacramento, America's Farm to Fork Capital, Grange is a culinary expression of all things local, reflecting the authentic essence and soul of the community.

The menu showcases the market-driven bounties from the state and is best described as simple, seasonal and soulful. Organically raised meats and poultry are complemented with the freshest produce available from the Central Valley, while sustainable coastal seafood is paired with a spectacular all-California wine list. The entrees are presented in a straightforward American brasserie style. Lastly, enjoy the creations from our pastry chef such as rustic artisan breads and desserts.

This Sacramento restaurant’s setting is both classic and authentic. The two-story space combines architectural elements from the building’s rich history with exposed beams and concrete columns to create a surprising and urbane, loft-like atmosphere.

The ambience at the Grange is lovely and I loved the Prohibition Era vibe. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable about food allergies, which I appreciated since I am allergic to gluten. The drinks were decent and generous, but nothing fabulous. But my biggest disappointment was the food. I ordered the scallops, my boyfriend ordered the roasted chicken. My scallops were cooked correctly, but over salted and covered in some sort of pickled, spicy mushrooms which were slimy. There were 3 very small pieces of thick bacon which were the best part of the meal. The turnips seemed to also be pickled, they tasted okay. And then there was a sort of bacon grease-tasting sauce was dribbled all over them. The entire meal was overworked and the flavors did not compliment each other. The waiter also brought me some chips since I couldn't have the bread. They were prepared well, but were not salted. And there was no salt on the table. Disappoint. My boyfriend's chicken was very good, well-flavored and fresh. But everything else on his plate tasted like bacon grease. Again, the flavors did not compliment one another, were greasy, and just plain weird. With tip, two drinks each, and one shared dessert, we spent $170. Which is fine if we really enjoyed the food, but we did not. We will not be back.

Grange is absolutely fit for foodies, but be prepared for a price tag to go with that reputation. The chicken at almost $30 was succulent, perfectly crispy on the skin side, and unexpectedly interesting thanks to a creative garnish with pickled grapes. In the winter, ask not to be seated at the rear corner of the restaurant along 10th Street. There is a huge vent that makes the corner area quite drafty.

The crab benedict was excellent. There was no fishy taste and no bread filler in the crab cakes. There were four of us, each with a different brunch dish, and all four of us would order them again. Only one tiny suggestion; the bartender either needed to speed up or get some help. We waiting an unusually long time for our drinks. Observation was that it was the bartender, not the work. However, once we got our drinks they were perfect. I highly recommend both the Bloody Mary and the Mimosa.

If you are happy to pay $32 for 3 diver scallops, the Grange is your place, The 2 pieces of bacon overpowered the rest of the tastes and threw my meal out of balance. My husband's pork chop was a good size. He felt there was nothing wrong with it, but he has had more interesting plates. Service and ambiance were good.

We've been to the Grange on several occasions, and invited an out of town friend to dine with us. Service was outstanding, but the food was not up to the standard we've come to know. The wine served, a red pinot "Roar" was perfect. The mussels were great as an appetizer, but my pork chop was chewy and over cooked, my wife's scallops were over sauced and cold. We were disappointed, but have been there enough that we will count this as a hiccup, and return to the great food we've come to enjoy.

We had dinner at the Grange while we were at the Citizen hotel and we liked it so much that we had brunch the next day. I had Diver Scallops with pork belly that night, which were superb. My girlfriend had Mussels with Fennel Sausage. This was an appetizer but was generous enough a portion to make a meal. Service was great. If you're a bourbon drinker you must try the Tusk cocktail. It's bacon infused and out of this world.

We had a wonderful meal at Grange, the crab bisque was great, pork chop was large and delicious. The scallops were pretty good, but we have had better. The churros for dessert were great. Some of the best service I have ever had and a decent menu selection. I would definitely go back. One of the top restaurants in Sacramento.

Let me start out by saying the food is awesome. Our waiter was very good too. The hostess was terrible. We arrived at 5:30 PM and she was very snooty to us and told us that there were not any reservations available for 2 hours. SO...I went on Open Table while in the restaurant bar and decided to check for myself. There were PLENTY of reservations available. In fact I made one on the spot. I told her...again, snooty. I was on a business trip with my co-workers and THEY brought me there. I watched her tell others the same story and turn customers away. That is not a good way to impress out of town visitors to such a nice restaurant.

We started out with cauliflower chowder, which had a very rich flavor, almost like clam chowder but no clams! We had mixed green salads and scallops for mains. The scallops were done just right with a bed of corn risotto. Dessert was a chocolate tart- obscenely rich and carrot cake. Service was excellent, water glass was never more than half empty. At the end of the meal the waiter took my parking check and had the valet bring the car in front so we would not have to wait when we left. Complimentary valet parking when you dine.

We were on a long journey and downtown Sacramento was convenient for us to break for the night. While the atmosphere in this area is wanting, we enjoyed the walk from our hotel to this restaurant, in a historic hotel just off the I5. The menu was inventive, the service professional and attentive and the food did not disappoint. The servings are smaller than chain restaurants, which we loved, but quite enough to satisfy. I recommend this establishment for foodies looking for ambience.

I went with three other people to the Grange and enjoyed the experience thoroughly. The food was tasty, the choices for wines by the glass were good and the service was quite good. The food took quite a while to be served, but fortunately the company was good and the wait did not seem excessive. My tablemates had the the scallops and the chicken - all of which they enjoyed. I would try it again.

We had the cheese plate and the ahi tuna to start. The cheeses offered were amazing. Joined with the honey, nuts and berries...oh yeah. The tuna was refreshing and tasty. I had the wantanabe tomato salad before the scallops. The scallops were a good size and seared perfectly. The corn risotto was prepared perfectly and pair with the scallops well. Our waiter was funny and but very busy. He got his job done didn't spend a lot of time chit chatting. Which is fine. Brought family from out of town. A sister who is pretty picky and she didn't complain at all. That in itself is a great review. :-).

Loved the atmosphere at the restaurant, but the food is hit or miss. Some menu items outstanding/delicious - others just not good. Based on this most likely will not go back. We were a group of 6 so tried many items on the menu - appetizers, salads, entrees, sides and desserts. Again about 1/2 of what we tried was outstanding to good, and the other half just not good.

with the bar customers standing right behind us, it was hard to have a conversation. Clark, our server was outstanding. The food was good but I really dislike not having a clue as to what some of the terms on the menu meant. I think we will go back to restaurants where they describe their dishes in plain English that we understand. I looked up several of the words used to explain their offerings and they were pretty obscure

The cut of tri-tip steak used in the salad I ordered on this visit was riddled with connective tissue and gristle. It was very tough to cut with a steak knife, let alone chew. This was surprising as I ordered the same menu item on 9/11 and it was succulent and delicious. The rest of the salad elements were perfect. Maybe this piece of meat was an anomaly, and it won't deter me from dining here again, but I will definitely ask the server to ensure the tri-tip cut used next time is more of a center cut versus where the connective tissue is. On a very positive note, the service was exceptional per usual and the kitchen delivered complimentary zucchini fries to our party.

La Grange is what you get when you take the best, freshest local ingredients and put them into the hands of a talented Chef like Oliver Ridgeway. How it took me so long to discover La Grange is beyond me. The Green Bean Caesar Salad is just one example of Chef's amazing imagination. Both the Zabuton and the Ribeye were tender and with a depth of flavor as good as you can get. The Diver Scallops and the Passmore Ranch Trout were prepared exquisitely. Add to the great food a waiter like Roger, who's descriptions of the food made our mouths water and who's attention to detail was impeccable, and an expertly selected wine list that included some off-the-charts local wineries that you can't find anywhere else, and you have La Grange.
