Diner Reviews
  • "My friends and I met for brunch on a Sunday. Three of the four of us had never been to Grange, and had high expectations. We were not disappointed! Everything on the menu sounded so delicious, even though there were only 9-10 choices for entrees, it was hard to decide, and we were grateful to not have more to chose from! When the food did arrive, everything tasted wonderful. The list of cocktails was alluring too; we all ordered something different and they all were fantastic. We sat on the patio, which is always lovely in my opinion. Our server was personable and attentive, he made it seem like we were his only table, although, we definitely were not!"

  • "Nice menu with interesting takes on local fare. Started with smoked fish appetizer which was great, husband had the pork loin & meatballs and I had the spinach tagliatelle with mushrooms & poached egg - for some reason both dishes had turnips added to them (not mentioned on the menu and really not necessary in either dish). Unfortunately my egg was over poached (partly cooked yolk) and the pasta was really salty, to the point that was all I could taste after awhile and I stopped eating. Will say dessert was great - dark chocolate pudding with basil ice cream. Unfortunately the big miss on my entree was enough that it cancelled out the nice appetizer and dessert - even if it was just an off night in the kitchen."

  • "Excellent meal and a much better alternative to the noisy art fair food court outside their door. They deserve hazard pay for having the heavy grease odor at their doorstep. Highly recommend it for dinner. Reasonably priced. Excellent food. My only minor complaint is they could have used a crisp or cobbler on their summer dessert menu!"

  • "Grange just keeps getting better. Whether you're ordering a vegetarian pasta entree or a tasty take on pork, seafood or chicken, expect special touches and in season vegetables and fruits. I'm a big fan of the cocktails, the kitchen, and the desserts. An excellent destination in Ann Arbor."

  • "The Grange is the best restaurant in Ann Arbor. Hands down."

  • "My wife and I went to Grange and ordered the tasting menu. All five courses were impeccably seasoned and perfectly cooked. The gazpacho that was served for the second course was the best bowl of soup I have ever eaten. The pork tenderloin we were served was a highlight as well. It was beautifully cooked, and the risotto cooked grains were a lovely compliment to the pork and the perfectly cooked vegetables. If you love simple yet clever dishes made with fresh, seasonal ingredients, then I highly recommend Grange. I also wanted to mention that we have eaten at Grange with our daughters, 1, 3, and 5, our oldest having a tree nut allergy. I am also allergic to dairy. All of our dietary restrictions are met every time we eat at Grange."

  • "The chef Brandon just keeps doing a perfect job of creating and serving marvelous food. Menu titles aren't awe-inspiring but food is incredible when it comes out. To the whole Grange team: just keep being great and thanks for great meals."

  • "Okay, it was restaurant week, but they were out of the entrée I wanted (off the regular menu), didn't have the sparkling MI wine I wanted, and the service was slow and harried. One of our group asked for his meat sampler cooked to the chef's recommended temp and one piece came out raw, so charred he had to send it back. Three other dishes, rib eye, chicken 3 ways, and spring vegetable risotto were all very average. Didn't try the desserts."

  • "Love the fresh ingredients and casual atmosphere. House-made ice cream was a refreshing treatment."

  • "Dinner was so disappointing especially considering the price. The menu looked enticingly creative, but the food was lack-luster and perhaps also underseasoned. Duck fries were overcooked/dark brown. The pork was tender, but flavorless. The ribeye was okay, but you would've expected better for approx $35. The spinach salad tasted plain. TWO things were good: the French 75 cocktail and the brown butter ice cream. I recommend going there for dessert. The bar is upstairs and has sofas, so maybe have dessert up there."

  • "I love the concept of Grange and fresh dining. The meat was well cooked and well marinated. I think seasonal vegetables can be hit or miss but I enjoyed the spring mix. I checked out the place for restaurant week but would definitely plan a second visit for a romantic evening with my significant other."

  • "We went for restaurant week. The choices were limited, but all were very good. We also enjoyed the wine and beer flights. It was very slow when we went, so it might be noisier when more crowded."

  • "I went to dinner with a small group of my friends. The food was really so good. Appetizer to dessert! We all loved loved it. The restaurant wasn't very crowded and I hope it was a fluke. Such a good restaurant, I would hate for it to close."

  • "Excellent service, very knowledgeable server. Friendly but not too clingy to the table, made it easy enough for us to have a conversation and not feel that the server was a part of our experience. Food was nicely presented. The walleye was deliciously prepared, the duck was also a winner. The lamb was good but could use a bit more creativity for the use of lamb. The lamb sausage was tasty but needed to be presented with more a of a culinary effort. The beans were a bit too al dente for my taste and they needed a bit more flavor. Dessert was delicious and very well liked by everyone. Buttermilk ice cream, with rhubarb compote...granita."

  • "We had brunch here this past weekend and very much enjoyed it. I had the lemon pancakes, which were very light. The bacon was a bit fatty but overall, the meal was great."

  • "I was concerned by the mixed reviews I read online, but we loved Grange! Everything we got was delicious. I got the Brioche crusted walleye and the parsnip cake for dessert. So delicious. The GGGinger cocktail was very yummy and refreshing. We went as part of a night out package with Rub Ann Arbor which was a couples massage with dinner at Grange which included 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and 2 desserts. I think we definitely saved money on dinner using the package. Lastly - the toasted coriander ice cream that my husband had in a house made waffle cone was also fantastic!"

  • "We went to Grange Kitchen for Mother's day. The wait staff were very kind and good with kids. It took quite a long time for the food to arrive but children were served first. The cost was very high and 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill. Would we come again? Yes. Even though we won't make this a regular stop (due to cost), it is was a fun experience for a special event."

  • "I have eaten dinners at The Grange several times in past years, but not recently. Typically on my birthday - end of May. Have always loved the food and raved about it to others. Our brunch on Easter Sunday was a big disappointment to me. The featured omelet was dry, overcooked and there way just the tiniest hint of Brussels sprouts or caramelized onion it. I only tasted the goat cheese. The toast was like an afterthought - boring. My favorite dish - the chickpeas was not the same - too salty. My bloody Mary was like a salty pickle - had to wait for lots of ice to melt to drink it. The homemade sausage was on my plate like a lump - the presentation was pretty boring. So, all in all, very disappointing! Will no longer recommend."

  • "The food was topnotch as was the service. This restaurant was better than a Michelin 1-star restaurant we went to in Yountville, CA (in the Napa region). The kitchen produces bold flavors - no bland food here. They have a tasting menu and next time we plan to get that. This place is an example of how great the culinary scene in Ann Arbor has become. This and a few other places in town can compete - and perform better - than many restaurants around the world. And we know, we've tried them."

  • "We had a very enjoyable evening at the Grange. Our party of four started with the fried pigs head, chorizo, dates, blue cheese, and spicy fried chickpeas all very good. For the entree I had grilled trout my wife had pan roasted walleye both excellent, our friends had Michigan shrimp with andouille sausage stew he loved it his wife had braised pork with winter vegetables I think she wished she had ordered something else. All in all a good meal, good service, and try the back porch lemonade."

  • "Excellent food, the duck confit was prepared excellently, and the squash and kimchi dumplings were perfect. Service faltered in the middle part of the meal, with empty plates remaining on the table for nearly ten minutes. That said, the service otherwise was great, and the food prepared quickly and expertly. A great meal."

  • "Awesome eatery! My husband and I love to support sustainability and having another place to dine out that is farm-to-table makes it a lot easier. We went for Sunday brunch and I was pleased to have more than 1 vegetarian option. My picky palate is the only reason we didn't go sooner, and why we haven't tried their dinners, yet! We most definitely will after such a pleasing experience."

  • "We had a 30 min wait at a crepe restaurant for a SUnday lunch with my daughter. So I decided to check out the Grange, just down the road and they indicated that they have tables available. So we walked over and got seated right away. On the menu I immediately noticed that they get their raw ingredients from local farmers and I like that. I had the goat cheese and vegetable omelette with a sausage pattie on the side and home fried potatoes with a couple slices of rye bread. Simple but tasty. It was just the right amount of food, not greasy. Along with some good conversation with my daughter and some good decaf coffee to wet my whistle, it was a good satisfying brunch. We left the place satisfied. Will definitely be back."

  • "All the entrees, Pork Shanks, Grouper and Chicken were cooked to perfection. The Chacutrie plate with assorted housemade meats was excellent. Wine prices slightly high with no value choices available. Ambitious but step too far with the smoked potato chips and chocolate pudding for desert."

  • "Grange is devoted to food and drink as celebrations of life. Everything about the menu, the presentation and the service is centered on the constituent ingredients, which are worth the attention. The Fried Pigs Head is required eating for anyone who enjoys pork."

  • "I thought about how best to describe experiences at Grange. It is an unusual restaurant--in a good way! But it is a raw, hardy, fresh experience that parallels the midwest culture. Food is always incredibly fresh and well prepared with unique use of seasonal ingredients. Service is always friendly and timely. We had the fresh fish grouper special and the shrimp and andouille sausage stew was perfect for a late winter evening. Grange is all about the food and will not disappoint."
