Diner Reviews
  • "Our meal was well prepared and delicious. Their signature salad was not its usual best, some of the lettuce was a bit rusty. Otherwise it was a fine experience."

  • "Words are not enough for this brunch. This is the only "MUST DO" on my list when family or friends come to visit us in pittsburgh."

  • "Loved the brunch for our special occasion, large family gathering with a small child and 2 guests from out of state. Perfect venue, wonderful to have reservations.Coffee and tea are important to us, always had to have someone wait at the table to "catch" the waitress for refills. Same for cold drinks. Seemed she was always filling the water glasses though. It would be better to bring carafe to the table."

  • "We often go here for the Sunday brunch which is fabulous. However, dinner this past weekend was very disappointing. It seems like they changed their menu. Regardless, the service was very slow, portions were small, and the food was cold when it arrived at our table. For the price you pay, it should have been better on all accounts."

  • "Birthday dinner...food was good..service/waitress was very pleasant...noise level (very busy) was VERY high!.....view great."

  • "The atmosphere, service and food are all great for a special occasion. The dining environment is distinctive, with an old train depot theme and some seating offering views of downtown Pittsburgh. The menu is extensive, with options to please everyone, and the seasonal options are always interesting. The food is always very well prepared."

  • "Our waitress tried hard but the kitchen messed up in every way possible. We waited 1 1/2 hours for our meals & most of the meals were cold. Enough said."

  • "The Grand Concourse never disappoints. The service is attentive, the food delicious and the River room is a great place to view the city. The main dining room is a grand and elegant space. We love dining at the Grand Concourse."

  • "This once prized location has fallen precipitously far. We were unaware that an à la carte selection was unavailable and were left with the rather dismal Sunday brunch buffet. Other than an excellent bananas Foster at the end, its offerings were hopelessly disappointing. Worse, even though this was a special occasion (birthday, mentioned in the reservation), the restaurant made no attempt to acknowledge it. The service was appalling, with a bottle of celebratory Veuve Clicquot to finish things off having to be ordered from another---mercifully available---server. Throughout, our original "server" was virtually invisible, utterly inattentive and finally impossible to locate. This is definitely not the Grand Concourse of decades past."

  • "How have I never been here for brunch?! It was absolutely amazing! The food was excellent and we had great service. And the donuts! oh the donuts!"

  • "It's important to note that the grand dining room for this restaurant is NOT available on Friday's and Saturday's during the summer due to the booking of weddings and special events. This was a disappointment when we arrived as the website indicates this is the focal point of their dining experience. We were instead put out on the former platform area that has a nice view of the river and city but also has the view of the passing freight trains. The food was okay but does not justify the higher prices. One dish for our party of four arrived cold and we were disappointed to see that the scallop plate contained only four scallops, chopped asparagus stalks (only one tip in the bunch) and hardly any gnocchi's to be seen. We won't be back."

  • "I came in all the way from New York City to take my father for dinner at the Grand Concourse for his birthday this past Saturday. I wish someone had told me that the main room of the restaurant was closed for a wedding at the time I made my reservation. We had to eat in the front dining room which was nothing special. Had I known I would be seated here and there would be a rather loud wedding in the main room, I would have found a restaurant to go to on Mount Washington with much more impressive views of the city. I was also appalled at how casual the other diners were dressed. People were dressed in jeans and one man was even wearing a baseball hat while he was eating dinner. What is wrong with people? It didn't seem appropriate."

  • "With family in from CA, I wanted a good dining experience with good food and good service and we were not disappointed. We needed a 4 p.m. seating to accommodate a tour we scheduled for 6 p.m. and the wait staff was fabulous. One member of our group didn't get there until 5 p.m., but we didn't know that and ordered for her when we arrived, and had to slow down the order and they were extremely helpful and accommodating. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. We could not have been more pleased."

  • "The Grand Concourse accommodated our party of 14, including four children and an infant, with ease and grace. Our waitress and the entire staff were outstanding. From appetizers to dessert, the food was delicious. We could not have asked for anything more. Plus, the beauty, ambiance and history of the Grand Concourse can not be duplicated. I have dined at the Grand Concourse many times and have never been disappointed."

  • "Two people ordered Charlie’s Chowder and while they said it was tasty but lukewarm. The busyboy came to the table and cleared the appetizer plates and commented to me that he was not really sure what he was to clear but he would take the appetizer plates and the bread plates. This clearly shows a lack of training. He also served the salads and my cold soup. He had no idea who ordered them just place them on the table and we were to distribute them. Then he said I have this cold soup stuff it starts with a G, anybody order it? It seems to me that all wait staff should know how to pronounce the menu items. The table commented that Grand Concourse is a restaurant for out of towner’s they are not geared toward repeat business. TOO BAD!"

  • "We had a nice experience at for Sunday brunch. The wait staff was wonderful with our youngest who is 4 and has Down Syndrome. My oldest and I have celiac and Chef Mike came to the table and gave us a personal tour of what's safe. Second time dining there with no issues and I am super sensitive."

  • "A very good venue for groups and young people - especially the brunch. My son and his family were visiting from Austin, Texas, and the grandkids had requested doing the brunch at the Concourse. We went from here to the Pirates game and travelled aboard one of the ferry boats. The brunch got us off to a good start. I would recommend a similar itinerary for groups or families going to a game, whether it's the Steelers or the Pirates."

  • "My wife and I always eat at the Grand Concourse for special occasions and are usually lucky enough to get seated in The River Room. The food, service and atmosphere are always what we've come to expect from such a fine dining restaurant and saloon (Gandy Dancer)."

  • "If you have a special occasion to celebrate, you should bring your friends or co-workers to the Grand Concourse. My favorite section is the main dining room with the decor from years gone by, featuring the magnificent stained glass panels in the ceiling."

  • "I was unbelievably impressed by the brunch buffet. I had read about the quality of this restaurant and it exceeded my expectations for sure! The service was mediocre at best, but it may have been due to a huge crowd earlier in the day. I would definately dine here again, once I have 50$ for a brunch buffet for 2. Yum!"

  • "One of the best of many brunches I have enjoyed. The setting is fantastic. The food was varied and plentiful. Omlettes, waffles, carving station with prime rib, etc. They even had a children's set up with PBJs and chicken fingers. Bananas Foster over ice cream as a desert. The best and most unusual desert was a donut machine that pushed out fresh, hot donuts. Really great. I highly recommend this place. A bargain at $25/person ."

  • "We haven't been here for brunch for about a year and wanted someplace to impress family from out of town. Well the Gramd Concourse did not fail us. Our waitress was excellent. The food was great and we had wonderful conversation. Win win win. I never even made it to the omelet bar which is usually one of my top picks. The donuts are always a big hit and were light and fluffy. And we always top it off with bananas foster. My absolute favorite."

  • "We've been to the brunch 3 times over the last few years. It's such a beautiful building and the brunch set-up is lovely. The piano player adds to the atmosphere. Food was very good. My only ding is that the menu changes very little with time. I think the only difference I noticed between visits spaced by a year was roast pork instead of turkey at the carving station. Everything else was identical."

  • "We usually enjoy the Grand Concourse. The ambiance and food is always awesome. The waitress we had made the evening not one of our best. Little attention, lack of attention, attitude. she even questioned why I like so much ground pepper. That was while she ground it bout 18 inches above my plate and dusted half the table cloth. When it was time for our bill she looked inside checked how our payment was made at the table, then flopped it shut and walked away. When she returned, she dropped it on the table and never said a word. I still leave a good tip, because I hope the rest of the wait staff gets a portion. This makes me more angry reminiscing!"

  • "We were looking forward to dining here based on the photos on the website and a number of the previous reviews. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with our experience. A wedding party had reserved the main dining room along with the entire bar area. As a result, we were not able to even get a glimpse of the main dining room, which is featured so prominently in the advertising. We were seated in the dining room overlooking the river, which was pleasant enough, but we could have had the same view from Joe's Crab Shack next door for a fraction of the price. On the plus side, we were seated at precisely the time reserved and our server was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. The food was very good."

  • "Everything from the upkeep of the beautiful restaurant to how the food was displayed made us feel like we were in a classic film. The Managers and Staff were above and beyond any place I've ever been. I am very happy I chose the Grand Concourse to propose to my beautiful girlfriend. AMAZING PLACE."

  • "We were referred here by a trolley driver. He said it was some of the best food in Pittsburgh. We didn't eat in every restaurant in the city, but we think he was right - the food was exquisite. This is one of the very very rare places that actually knows how to cook both fish and brocolli, which bodes well for everything else on the menu! The ambiance and service is great. The architecture of the old rail station is fantastic. One of our must stop places on our next visit to Pittsburgh."

  • "The combination raw oyster platter is the way to go. We got to experience different flavores and condiments with each. We chose the "chef small plates" for lunch. Fried soft shell crab was delicious and fun. Balsamic glazed strawberries and peppered shrimp was also delicious. It was a bit too peppery, if we had bread with our meal it would have let me give my palette a break on pepper. Our skinny lemonade cocktails were spot on! Refreshing and light and paired perfectly with our highly flavored dishes. Overall we left full and pretty happy. We wish our anniversary lunch could have ben more personal and romantic."
