Diner Reviews
  • "With family in from CA, I wanted a good dining experience with good food and good service and we were not disappointed. We needed a 4 p.m. seating to accommodate a tour we scheduled for 6 p.m. and the wait staff was fabulous. One member of our group didn't get there until 5 p.m., but we didn't know that and ordered for her when we arrived, and had to slow down the order and they were extremely helpful and accommodating. The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. We could not have been more pleased."

  • "We had a 9-montg old with us and were brought a high chair with a broken seat belt. Were able to get another one but high chairs should be 100% in working order. Server wasn't very attentive. Food and selection were terrific - price was reasonable too."

  • "We had a nice experience at for Sunday brunch. The wait staff was wonderful with our youngest who is 4 and has Down Syndrome. My oldest and I have celiac and Chef Mike came to the table and gave us a personal tour of what's safe. Second time dining there with no issues and I am super sensitive."

  • "A very good venue for groups and young people - especially the brunch. My son and his family were visiting from Austin, Texas, and the grandkids had requested doing the brunch at the Concourse. We went from here to the Pirates game and travelled aboard one of the ferry boats. The brunch got us off to a good start. I would recommend a similar itinerary for groups or families going to a game, whether it's the Steelers or the Pirates."

  • "We really enjoy coming here for brunch. My Grand daughter always says "It's like a dream come true!" when we bring her."

  • "Two people ordered Charlie’s Chowder and while they said it was tasty but lukewarm. The busyboy came to the table and cleared the appetizer plates and commented to me that he was not really sure what he was to clear but he would take the appetizer plates and the bread plates. This clearly shows a lack of training. He also served the salads and my cold soup. He had no idea who ordered them just place them on the table and we were to distribute them. Then he said I have this cold soup stuff it starts with a G, anybody order it? It seems to me that all wait staff should know how to pronounce the menu items. The table commented that Grand Concourse is a restaurant for out of towner’s they are not geared toward repeat business. TOO BAD!"

  • "Food and service are top notch. Highly recommend for all occasions"

  • "Great brunch selection, but make sure to make a reservation so you're not waiting forever on a Sunday because it gets packed. Make sure to get the homemade donuts, and the other stations were great too (omlette station and carving station, in particular). Only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is that (1) I put in a reservation for 7 and then was given a table that only was set for, and comfortably seated 6, and (2) when I brought that to the hostesses attention, he got snippy with me for no reason whatsoever. Other than that, not issues with the service."

  • "We've been to the brunch 3 times over the last few years. It's such a beautiful building and the brunch set-up is lovely. The piano player adds to the atmosphere. Food was very good. My only ding is that the menu changes very little with time. I think the only difference I noticed between visits spaced by a year was roast pork instead of turkey at the carving station. Everything else was identical."

  • "My wife and I always eat at the Grand Concourse for special occasions and are usually lucky enough to get seated in The River Room. The food, service and atmosphere are always what we've come to expect from such a fine dining restaurant and saloon (Gandy Dancer)."

  • "I had to show them my reservation on my phone for them to see that I had made reservations. We were taking on a "tour" of the main dining area by our very impersonable waitress. We were under the impression that we were being seated there but was seated in the back of the facility in a separate "servant" area near kitchen. Our waitress never told why just handed menus and walked away. We gathered our things to leave. I asked to speak to manage whom advised me were sat in the very back of the restaurant due to a large wedding that was to take place in the main dining area. Her two waiters should have been able to tell me that. I willl never patronize a place that does not know how to at least be warm and welcoming with its guest."

  • "We usually enjoy the Grand Concourse. The ambiance and food is always awesome. The waitress we had made the evening not one of our best. Little attention, lack of attention, attitude. she even questioned why I like so much ground pepper. That was while she ground it bout 18 inches above my plate and dusted half the table cloth. When it was time for our bill she looked inside checked how our payment was made at the table, then flopped it shut and walked away. When she returned, she dropped it on the table and never said a word. I still leave a good tip, because I hope the rest of the wait staff gets a portion. This makes me more angry reminiscing!"

  • "One of the best of many brunches I have enjoyed. The setting is fantastic. The food was varied and plentiful. Omlettes, waffles, carving station with prime rib, etc. They even had a children's set up with PBJs and chicken fingers. Bananas Foster over ice cream as a desert. The best and most unusual desert was a donut machine that pushed out fresh, hot donuts. Really great. I highly recommend this place. A bargain at $25/person ."

  • "If you have a special occasion to celebrate, you should bring your friends or co-workers to the Grand Concourse. My favorite section is the main dining room with the decor from years gone by, featuring the magnificent stained glass panels in the ceiling."

  • "We haven't been here for brunch for about a year and wanted someplace to impress family from out of town. Well the Gramd Concourse did not fail us. Our waitress was excellent. The food was great and we had wonderful conversation. Win win win. I never even made it to the omelet bar which is usually one of my top picks. The donuts are always a big hit and were light and fluffy. And we always top it off with bananas foster. My absolute favorite."

  • "I was unbelievably impressed by the brunch buffet. I had read about the quality of this restaurant and it exceeded my expectations for sure! The service was mediocre at best, but it may have been due to a huge crowd earlier in the day. I would definately dine here again, once I have 50$ for a brunch buffet for 2. Yum!"

  • "Went with my wife on our 45th anniversary. Table was nice and private, but with a fine view. What was excellent, was the food quality and preparation."

  • "We were looking forward to dining here based on the photos on the website and a number of the previous reviews. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with our experience. A wedding party had reserved the main dining room along with the entire bar area. As a result, we were not able to even get a glimpse of the main dining room, which is featured so prominently in the advertising. We were seated in the dining room overlooking the river, which was pleasant enough, but we could have had the same view from Joe's Crab Shack next door for a fraction of the price. On the plus side, we were seated at precisely the time reserved and our server was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. The food was very good."

  • "Everything from the upkeep of the beautiful restaurant to how the food was displayed made us feel like we were in a classic film. The Managers and Staff were above and beyond any place I've ever been. I am very happy I chose the Grand Concourse to propose to my beautiful girlfriend. AMAZING PLACE."

  • "The combination raw oyster platter is the way to go. We got to experience different flavores and condiments with each. We chose the "chef small plates" for lunch. Fried soft shell crab was delicious and fun. Balsamic glazed strawberries and peppered shrimp was also delicious. It was a bit too peppery, if we had bread with our meal it would have let me give my palette a break on pepper. Our skinny lemonade cocktails were spot on! Refreshing and light and paired perfectly with our highly flavored dishes. Overall we left full and pretty happy. We wish our anniversary lunch could have ben more personal and romantic."

  • "The main ballroom was rented out to a huge noisy obnoxious wedding. Had I known this, I wouldnt have made reservations for that night. As a result, non-wedding patrons were seating in the inferior dark and boring riverside annex, with no access at all to the main ballroom at all. What a waste and disappointment."

  • "We were referred here by a trolley driver. He said it was some of the best food in Pittsburgh. We didn't eat in every restaurant in the city, but we think he was right - the food was exquisite. This is one of the very very rare places that actually knows how to cook both fish and brocolli, which bodes well for everything else on the menu! The ambiance and service is great. The architecture of the old rail station is fantastic. One of our must stop places on our next visit to Pittsburgh."

  • "The salad was too salty to eat, so none of us ate salad. The shrimp dish tasted fine, but some shrimps were OK and some of them were very salty and didn't know why. We wanted to show how great of this restaurant to out town friends, but bad results."

  • "We have celebrated Father's Day here before for brunch and have never been disappointed...today was no exception! The food is excellent, the restaurant is stunningly beautiful, the service is what you would hope for. For 6 of us to dine (two kids) our bill came to about $170, so it isn't cheap, but it was perfect to celebrate our special occasion. We would definitely recommend this (and we have!) restaurant!"

  • "The food was good. The atmosphere was great. We really enjoy coming here on special occasions. This particular occasion left me confused and quite angry. The problem came when the check was being paid. There was a "suggested gratuity" listed on the check, which is fine. We split the check up ourselves knowing how much of a hassle separating checks can be. However, the amounts given to the server were not cashed out properly. When we asked for certain amounts to be applied to the check, using 2 credit cards, and one cash amount, two of the three transactions were charged forcing the gratuity on ahead of time causing the third check to be overcharged by $30. We aren't cheap, we just would all have liked to pay our proper amounts as requested"

  • "In Pittsburgh to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Originally planned dinner on Grandview Ave, but the décor and menu suggested a better experience, so we changed plans and made reservations at the Grand Concourse. We had purchased tickets for a Gateway Clipper cruise that was scheduled to board at 7:55pm. We got to the restaurant at 6:30pm and was seated about 6:38pm. At about 7:00 we had a glass of water but no drinks or even ordered our food yet. Finally ordered and apps came shortly after. At 7:35pm we still had not received our meals and we told the waitress we only had about 20 minutes to eat and be at the boat. She hurried and we got our meals. Fish was undercooked. We ran to the boat and our $110 meal was a disaster."

  • "The food was wonderful once we got it! A group of 8 went for lunch thinking 1.5 hours should cover it. ~2.5 hours later we left finished up. The food took over an hour to get and all tables around us were served even though they were seated after us."
