Grand ConcourseDon't miss the Grand Concourse whenWe have enjoyed this resturant for years and make every effort to go there when we visit Pittsburgh. While the dinners are great, if you happen to be in Pittsburgh on a Sunday....try to get into the brunch. Once you do, it will become the standard that you'll measure all other brunches against......on top of that it is less than $40 per person. On top of that the setting in an old 19th century train station is spectacular that includes the view of downtown Pittsburgh5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Brunch in Pittsburgh !I love the historic, beautiful Grand Concourse! I never know where I prefer to sit - the inside of the restaurant with the incredible stained glass ceilings and spacious surroundings or along the windows to see the Pittsburgh view! The food is consistently great with a good variety. I miss the Smithfield Street Bridge chocolate dessert from many years ago - bring it back! Overall, always love this restaurant. ( Apparently, they had over 3,000 reservations for Mother's Day Brunch and it was crowded, yet the food was readily available and service was prompt. Excellent! )5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMRight Here Right NowThere probably isn't a better special occasion restaurant in all of Western Pennsylvania than the Grand Concourse. While we were celebrating Mother's Day a day early most of the main dining area was taken up by a wedding party and the was a smaller birthday party toward the back on the room. From what I could distinguish there wasn't a person there who wasn't being nearly fawned over by the waitstaff.
The seafood was excellent as was the steak. In all of the years I have been coming to this place I have never had a bad meal.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner for six steelmakers. The place is gorgeous, almost Gatsbyish. Not a very big crowd though we were a bit early. We felt almost lonely in the big dinning room. The hostess seating us was a bit clueless about an appropriate table for 6 men (biz dinner). Food is good but not outstanding.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMClassic BrunchStill after all these years Pittsburgh best venue for Sunday Brunch. The variety and quality are both fantastic.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMStill Great BrunchThe brunch is still great after years of being away (I just moved back from California). The service wasn't as good as I remembered it, but that's not too important if you go for brunch and the brunch was still wonderful. :-)5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMNever had a bad experienceNever had a bad experience at the Grand Concourse! Always a great meal, great service and one of the best views of the city.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Welcome HomeMy husband and I like to welcome ourselves back to Pittsburgh when we return from a vacation with a great meal. We made an excellent choice in the Grand Concourse. We easily made reservations on line and were even seated early when we arrived before our reservation time. We were seated at a window table with a wonderful river view just as we had requested in our online reservation. Our server, Herbert, was pleasant and efficient. I asked for a red wine that was not too dry and he provided the perfect compliment to my dinner. We also enjoyed dessert and coffee. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the ambiance was welcoming. The overall experience was outstanding.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGrand Lady who's still delightfulTook out of town business clients for dinner week of April 29th. For classic Pittsburgh history and architecture, GC is delightful and conveys a sense of grandeur appropriate for such an occasion. The hostess quickly got us seated. Service was friendly and attentive, and, nice to say, 'professional' [ie, no "what can I get you honey?"]. One minor ding in that service was a little slow out of the gate but once orders were taken, the dinner flowed very smoothly. The wine list is well-populated. The [standard] menu was extensive and there was an interesting seasonal supplemental menu offering a number of choices. All four of our dinners were quite good; all seafood and prepared and seasoned correctly. Would not hesitate to go back.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOur group of seven celebratedOur group of seven celebrated my parents' anniversary at the Grand Concourse brunch. This has become a yearly tradition, and everyone looks forward to it. It is a little pricey, but you get an excellent atmosphere and very good food - overall, a very enjoyable brunch.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMI was very happy with ourI was very happy with our service and they did a great job accommodating our extra guest that we did not know was coming...so that presented a logistics issue for seating 9 people.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for special occassionsWe celebrated a friend's 60th birthday and requested to be seated on the porch using Open Table. I am glad we did, the restaurant was very busy for Sunday Brunch. We were given a great table by the window overlooking the river and Pittsburgh. The porch ambiance was very light and airy compare to other rooms. It use to be the original train station, therefore it had wonderful old world charm, stained glass, marble, brass and wood. The the service was excellent by all the staff. The food was very good, hot and replenished quickly. There were a few make to order stations which allowed you to customize your items. Dishes for adults and kids.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMA Very Special Time To Remember.Had a wonderful time! Our server, Sarah, was very energetic and helpful. She was so into making sure that our experience was just perfect. Thank you, Sarah!!!
We loved being there and were so pleased with our choice. Your restaurant made our trip
to Pittsburgh a such a sweet memory.
Thank you.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love eating Sunday BrunchWe love eating Sunday Brunch at the Grand Concourse. We were seated in the Gandy Dancer Saloon area and my children had difficulty getting on and off the high chairs. We also didn't get to enjoy hearing the piano player as the bar area was noisy. The food is superb and we usually enjoy the atmosphere, but this past Sunday wasn't as enjoyable as usual. Thanks, however, to the great waitstaff !! Next time we will request not to be in that area on our reservations.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellant, especiallyFood was excellant, especially lemon chicken and lobster bisque soup.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first time back afterOur first time back after a three year absence for bad service. The food was better than we remembered, very good actually and the service issues appear to be resolved. We will return again.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall, we enjoyed the foodOverall, we enjoyed the food and the beauty of the restaurant.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good. Disappointed thatVery good. Disappointed that after my parking was "validated", I still owed. I question if it was done at all. Food was great.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe dined at the Gandy DancerWe dined at the Gandy Dancer section of the Grand Concourse and enjoyed their Sunday Brunch. Scott was our waiter, who made sure our friend's birthday gathering was special with selections from the dessert table topped with whipped cream and a lit candle.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful setting, great staff,Beautiful setting, great staff, food, atmosphere. We will definitely return!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrific luncheon spotThe service was beyond wonderful, our waiter was engaging but not overwhelming, he made terrific recommendations on both the wine and food choices. The surroundings is breathtaking from the stained glass vaulted ceilings to the carved wood paneling and marble flooring and walls. You will feel like you were in a time machine that took you to a time when elegant surroundings, incredible food and service was only set aside for the ultimate wealthy - the luncheon meals were very reasonable and you felt and left as if you were treated at ten times the worth. Truly a wonderful experience.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were traveling, and severalWe were traveling, and several locals recommended the Grand Concourse for a nice dinner. We were not disappointed. Great food, great service.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favorites in PittsburghIf you're in Pittsburgh visit this place, even if it's just to get a drink. If you're there on Sunday especially for Brunch, I'll put this place against almost anywhere (outside of the state of Louisiana) I've been for the money.
This time we had all appetizers, the highlight was the scallops.
They also were willing to stuff olives with blue cheese martini's, another plus.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe didn't realize that earlyWe didn't realize that early bird specials were available. A great meal plus a starter and dessert. $100 for a party of 4 and free parking. A beautiful view of Pittsburgh.
You can't beat that. We will be coming back soon.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love the Grand ConcourseWe love the Grand Concourse everytime we come! My husband and I have the same birthday and we celebrated here - excellent choice. It's my 11 and 15 year olds favorite place as well.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved every bite of our 2Loved every bite of our 2 and a half hour dining experience. The Grand Course has the best brunch in town. Shared the meal with 6 friends in a birthday celebration that was fun and full of delicious samplings. Thank you Grand Concourse for making the afternoon a wonderful birthday memory.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMNice options for brunch....Nice options for brunch.... all of the usual breakfast fare, plus a reasonable selection of lunch foods.
The food was fine... but really, brunch at the Grand Concourse is all about the ambiance, and it is just a pleasure to eat in that gorgeous dining room, listen to the piano, and enjoy the wonderful service.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the Sunday brunchLove the Sunday brunch. Just find the piano much too loud when sitting in certain areas. It was so loud we had to ask to be moved. We could even talk across our table. They were very accommodating.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome!! Must experience!!!Awesome!! Must experience!!! Awesome building, spectacular view, and great food. A little pricy but you are paying for the atmoshere too. We will be back!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was very good, and theFood was very good, and the service was excellent. We would definitely recommend the Grand Concourse.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, a wonderful experience! As always, a wonderful experience! Great restaurant for that special occasion. The food was great ad the service top notch.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was just a quite dinnerIt was just a quite dinner celebrating a birthday. The food was very good, the wine was good, the view was beautiful, the atmosphere was pleasing. My daughter is a freshman across the river at Duquesne. I think we will have dinner at the Grand Concourse again.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMPretty GoodGrand Concourse is a nice place to see at least once, would I go back? Probably not, the food is decent and the ambiance is special. Other than that no big fuss, I ordered the scallops and my fiance ordered the shrimp fresco. Pretty good not better than any other restaurant, I was never wow'd by the Grand Concourse.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is my favorite placeThis is my favorite place for Sunday or holiday brunch! The wait staff are friendly and attentive, the buffet is fabulous! We went on Easter morning, were seated after a 10 minute wait. For families with children, they had the Easter bunny wandering through, handing out small stuffed animals. The place can be very crowded but you it never seems noisy! The main dining room is beautiful.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWaiting for SeatingThey did not start seating until 9 am. Our reservation was a t 9 am and we arrived 10 minutes early. So did most other guests whose reservations were also for that time. It is a large place and can hold many guest. Their lobby is small though. So many guest were waiting in a tiny lobby to be seated until about 9:05am. It got rather uncomfortable and loud. It was also very difficult to hear the hostess when she started to call names to be seated.
They also do not have adequate spacing between their omelet station and their waffle station. I was bumped into many times while I was waiting in line. They need to find a way to configure more space for their guest. It was uncomfortable.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWAY overpriced for the foodI think there is alot of food, but not real different than any other buffet. WAY overpriced for brunch. If you are looking for waffles, you are better off going to the Pancake House or teh Dor Stop Cafe or IHOP. Yes, the seem to act all fancy, but really its very pretentious...3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMI took my friends for EasterI took my friends for Easter Brunch....it was simply wonderful!!!!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful experience for EasterWonderful experience for Easter Brunch. Food was presented well, all food areas were replenished often, and workers constantly kept the tables clean and most presentable. The restaurant was quite busy, but the staff did an outstanding job keeping everyone happy with clean plates, silverware, and filled glasses of water. It was a great day.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMCrowded of course, but itCrowded of course, but it was Easter. Food was terrific, great variety. My only recommendation concerns the beef carving station. The beef was all only cooked to rare. I wouldn't eat it; too bloody! I heard several other people express the same opinion. Desserts were superb! The fresh donut was the best!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing place very lovelyAmazing place very lovely atmosphere. Great food and good drinks. Love the Sunday brunch.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Easter Brunch!!Had reservatioGreat Easter Brunch!!Had reservation at 1:30 and finally got seatedAt 2:10. Kids began to get impatient but the appearance of the Easter Bunny handing outgoodies helped! We will be doing this againnext year!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service and AWESOMEGreat service and AWESOME food. Will certainly be heading back again.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWent there Easter SaturdayWent there Easter Saturday for an early dinner before a show! Nice fish options, as 4 of the 5 of ordered seafood. My bacon wrapped filet was OK. We appreciated the view of the city, as we had two newbies to Pittsburgh.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Brunch but Pass on DinnerThe Grand Concourse is a MUST-SEE venue, and after enjoying Brunch there for years, we decided to try it for a family dinner (party of 9). The service was outstanding. I have only one very real complaint: whoever is running the kitchen seems to be satisfied with serving, at best, mediocre dinner food. Our table was served steaks, chicken, salmon and shrimp, and nothing would rate higher than a 5 of 10. The presentation was average and the flavors were just plain and flat. This element was disappointing, especially when the prices were in the $27 - $36 range per Entree. I was surprised. Maybe this historic restaurant is best kept for Sunday Brunch. Hard to mess up on waffles, potatoes, fruit trays, bacon and sausage!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGo for Brunch!Had the Sunday Brunch. Excellent! Brought my two daughters, ages 11 & 9. They thought it was wonderful, too. Great prime rib, good P&E shrimp. Excellent Bananas Foster over a waffle w/ice cream. We'll go again. Want to try a dinner date with momma!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI thought the Sunday brunchI thought the Sunday brunch was wonderful. I'm glad I requested a table along the windows, looking out at the city because the main room was way to crowded and I wouldn't have wanted to sit and eat in there. Our reservation was for 1pm but we did not get seated until 1:30. Didn't like this as why have a reservation if it can't be kept.
The food was absolutely wonderful and for this reason we will definitely be back.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMHad dinner in the River Room,Had dinner in the River Room, what a great view of the city and river traffic. Would be even better during warmer weather when more boats are out. Meal was very good, while a bit pricey had a nice portion. Over-all was a very positive experience, and would return t soem point in the future3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and serviceExcellent food and service at early dinner before theater.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was terrific. WaiterFood was terrific. Waiter was attentive and thoughtful.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWent here to celebrate myWent here to celebrate my Mother's Birthday. Was seated right at the window so view of city was wonderful. Food was great and waitress was so nice and helpful with special requests for my mother. I was shock that at 6:30pm it was not busy and only 5 tables were taken for a Friday night....by the time we left at 8:30 a few more tables were taken but for a Friday not busy at all...I would still suggest going here for a nice dinner, great view and being treated so very nice by the staff.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
