Grand Central Oyster BarGrand Central SurpriseI took my wife to the Oyster Bar at Grand Central as it was on our way home, we had a fantastic time. The place is so busy, but the waiter was fantastic and friendly.
The place is busy but there was no rush to get you served and get you out the door.
I had 6 oysters - selected by the oyster buyer, they were delicious - to start followed by simple cajun tilapia with salsa and fresh veg. My wife had New England Chowder, which could have been seasoned slightly more and followed by lovely sweet jumbo shrimp tempura. It was all very simple and not fussy. Exactly what we wanted.
Also the bottle of 2009 Grieve Sauvignon Blanc helped significantly!!
Great Place for quick lunch or dinner on the way home!!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome seafood choicesHighly recommend this restaurant! I have never seen a more extensive seafood menu. Everyone in our party enjoyed what was ordered! Oysters Rockefeller was exquisite. Colombian red trout and scallops were excellent.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Big Apple May 2013Great, buzzing atmosphere and obviously very popular. First time visit on recommendation from several friends and well worth it. Looked after well by Maitre D, seated when we wanted, fish choices excellent and delicious, served promptly. Would return next time we visit NYC.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceGreat location, great food, friendly and professional service5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMfreshest fish around. sadfreshest fish around. sad to have seen their famous biscuits replaced by rolls (good, but biscuits were a hallmark).5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMParade of Trains to Oyster BarMy friends and I celebrated "National Train Day" with a great lunch at Grand Central Terminal's fabled Oyster Bar! I and one of my friends enjoyed the $20.13 special, while our other companion had the classic Fish and Chips. We literally did eat from soup to nuts, starting with a nicely served clam chowder ("Manhattan," of course) and ending with homemade desserts.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOyster Bar rulesThe Oysters are always great here. There is a large choice and variety from across the country. The while fish is good too and cooked to perfection. The restaurant is undergoing renovation so the available table seating is limited. Book early to get a good seat. Enjoy.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent experience on myselfexcellent experience on myself and wife for ever visit to New York ( 50TH Birthday surprise treat )
will visit again on our return to the Big Apple5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot!We loved it. Our first time here, relaxed, vibrant and really good food. U could be dressed up or not- nice to just be able to be yourself- we will recommend it to friends just like our friend recommended it to us!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFor a very special moment in lifeMy wife and I came from Sweden to be married i NYC. We had our dinner at The Oyster bar. It was a wonderful experience. Good, friendly service and worldclass food made it a evening to remember. Thank You!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNot to be missedIf you love seafood, ambient setting, centrally located with a buzzing atmosphere - the Grand Central Oyster Bar is for you. Great selection of food and attentive service.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday celebrationHave previously enjoyed lunching at the bar, but sitting at a table for the birthday celebration was delightful. Atmosphere so vibrant and lively, food and drink just what each of us wanted -- definitely a new tradition for our birthday dinner celebration.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMOooh to be an Oyster at GCOBIf I should go only one place in NYC I would go here. If not for the oysters -which is obvious - I would come for the cool, friendly and deeply professional service. The waiters are an attraction in themselves. As to the wine list: Impossible to make a choice - so much to choose from and so little liver to handle it. And the location: To arrive by the subway, enter the grand Hall and take in the atmosphere of traveling New York'ers - then submerge to the restaurant feeling the wibe from all the guests. It is big - yes - there is noise - yes - but you feel like being part of a play where the scene is set for a party with a theme about "The good life". You leave a happier and better person. The food: Oooh to be an oyster here.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe waitress At the waitingThe waitress At the waiting bar with a very Bad attitude4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a personal favorite. This is a personal favorite. Great broiled blue points; clams and scallops. Terrific selection of draft beer. Ambiance is great, EXCEPT: terribly noisy, to the point where conversation was nearly impossible.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMNice place for a father &Nice place for a father & son to connect after many years.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMloved it! needed to get inloved it! needed to get in and out quickly on a lunch break with my boss and service was perfect, food was delish and the waiters recommendations were right on.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMNew York at its bestSeafood is fresh and cooked simply. Yes, the food is good but the space is so beautiful that you might forget to eat. Just gawk at the vaulted ceilings, checkered tablecloths and mid-century counter.
If you are a tourist, add it to your list. If you are a New Yorker, don't think that this is just a place for tourists. Go. A real treasure. Thank you again Jackie O' for rallying and saving Grand Central.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful New York experienceThe Oyster Bar is a wonderful New York City experience for native New Yorkers as well as for tourists. The good food combined with the enjoyable ambiance and the friendly, attentive staff is a winning combination.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMSuch a unique restaurant.Such a unique restaurant. Service was great, food was delicious. The fried ipswich clams were crispy and delicious, and the sea bass was delicious too. The only negative was that by 6:15 pm when we arrived, they had already ran out of many things on the menu, fish and desserts. The waiter explained that they only order as much as they think they can sell, so everything is fresh. On that day, he said the freezer wasn't working so there was no ice cream.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA 5-Decade Family TraditionWe love this place! The atmosphere is classic and timeless -- arched tile ceilings, red and white checked tablecloths, busy and noisy. The food is great -- the 'today's catch' changes daily and is extremely varied. Unless you hate all fish and seafood, you'll have a hard time deciding what to order. But everything is good -- high quality ingredients, expertly and creatively prepared. No matter what I've ordered, the seafood is always cooked to perfection, as are the veggies and sides. I always stick with the ‘plainer’ dishes (broiled shad or scrod, seared tuna) but my husband likes their crab cakes and pan roasts too. We’ve always had friendly and attentive servers – they’re busy, but they take time to do their job well.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticcame here for dinner with some good friends and had an amazing time. the food was fantastic. will definitely come back again and again and again. :-)4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMOyster Bar, if you've never been GOPretty much the experience one would expect from a venerable classic, located at Grand Central Terminal, in the best possible way. Loud, busy, staff with a bit of lovable attitude, and great food. Not to be missed for the quintessential NY experience, or for locals with a group of friends or belly up to the food bar on a date. Great beer selection helps put it over the edge of must-eat-at-restaurants.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent seafood, friendlyExcellent seafood, friendly and professional service, happy environment in a Grand setting. The fantastic lobster roll rivaled ones we had in Maine and Nova Scotia. Excellent oyster selection. (There is a short non-seafood menu.) The vibrancy of the restaurant was refreshing in a famously historic setting.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGrand Central Oyster Bar isGrand Central Oyster Bar is a must-go-to place. Impeccably fresh seafood in historic Gran Central Station. I never miss an opportunity to dine there.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFun place, great oysters &Fun place, great oysters & seafood. Food and service was very good. This is a great place for fresh seafood. Thanks3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ambience in the heartGreat ambience in the heart of a New York City icon. If you want fresh seafood with the New York feel, this is the place to go.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was WONDERFUL! OurThe food was WONDERFUL! Our server was really great and had great recommendations for beer with what we typically drink. If I lived in NYC, you can bet I would be a frequent to this restaurant.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMAwsome oyster and seafood.Awsome oyster and seafood. Its better to ask for the saloon tables.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMIt is just such a great placeIt is just such a great place to bring people from out of town. I had a relative and her boyfriend visiting for the first time from Australia, and besides all the very New York things I took them to do, I thought this was a quintessentially New York dining experience. They were completely charmed and loved the oysters as much as I did.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AM100 years and still fabulous100 years and still fabulous - the seafood is do freshThe clams and oysters are incredible!!! Don't missthe New England clam chowder- all seafood is so fresh and well prepared- save room for key lime pie3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA seafood loverThe Oyster Bar in Grand Central is THE place for fresh seafood in the city. At least 12 different varieties of oysters, more fish choices than one can imagine. Oyster pan roast to die for.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AM100 Years of ExcellenceAny restaurant that lasts 100 years has to have something going for it, and the Oyster Bar does. I ate perfectly cooked scrod, and my companion enjoyed a crab cake loaded with chunks of crab. The steamed Yukon Gold potatoes I ordered never materialized, but I didn't need them because potato and vegetables accompanied my fish. They seated me when I arrived, and didn't fuss when my guest was late. I get so annoyed when a dining venue makes me wait until my whole party has assembled before I get seated.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb raw oysters from aSuperb raw oysters from a wide selection. But on our visit fried oysters were disappointing: heavily breaded and tasting of stale oil. Lobster roll excellent with ample portion of lobster meat.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMYUMMMMMM!!!WOW .... WE ATE THERE TWICE IN ONE WEEK & I CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK ...
Next time I will know to order ala carte oysters to avoid deflated farmed varieties in the combo plates but having said that I was ready to come back & order the same thing abbreviated the next night except it was Sunday & they are closed.... YUUUMMMMMM~!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great time at theAlways a great time at the Oyster Bar and the chance to walk through the Grand Central terminal. The restaurant is always busy but their list of fresh seafood is amazing and delicious!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe New England clam chowderThe New England clam chowder is fantastic, out of this world!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMClassic RestaurantGreat anytime. Good fish & good selection but varies depending on what the boats have brought to the fish market. Nice bloody Marys.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for my twins birthday,Great for my twins birthday, one lives in the city, one up north, train in train out, and delicious!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMI always have a great timeI always have a great time when I enter The Oyster Bar and can taste the food before
I order. My guests really enjoyed the ambiance and sitting in the Tavern was a new
experience for both. The service was very good which makes the dinner so much better. (The
only thing that was wrong is the waiter attempted to clear the plates before we were
finished!)3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA great experience that everyoneA great experience that everyone should have. Very good food and in the same place for 100 years.
