This is one of the best restaurantsThis is one of the best restaurants in the theater district. It gets very busy rit before the sows start. Get there just as the she's start and you'll have the place, and the staff, to yourself very nice. :-)6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always enjoy the restaurant. We always enjoy the restaurant. The food portions are ample, the food is seasoned perfectly with flavors remembered long after the dining experience.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a pleasure to brunchAlways a pleasure to brunch here before the theatre.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMconversation friendlyGrand Cafe provided a conversation friendly atmosphere for a group of colleagues from multiple states eager for conversation that easily included the participation of one person with hearing aides. In addition, the food was very good. Grand Cafe met our needs.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMam always looking for a niceam always looking for a nice place near ACT and finally found one. excellent food, truly lovely service, perfectly pleasant but not overbearing. fantastic decor and finally a place where you don't have to scream to hear your friends. will definitely be coming back6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food, and the serviceFantastic food, and the service was beyond excellent. Our waiter was the best ever!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining experienceGreat service, wonderful food and atmosphere. Wait staff very helpful in getting us to the theatre on time.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThanks everyone at the GrandThanks everyone at the Grand Cafe for making our evening special. Everything was delicious and our server, Robin, was awesome!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways outstandingGrand Cafe is our favorite pre-theater dining spot with a beautiful art deco decor. Menu changes frequently to offer high quality and imaginative food. Try the mussels trio with three different broths. The coq au van had a special twist with the chicken wrapped i bacon; the grilled trout had a tarragon butter sauce. The dining room would be quieter if the open kitchen was not banging cookware.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely restaurant in San FranciscoI had the pleasure of having breakfast at this restaurant and it was delicious. The food was outstanding and I would suggest the French toast. Service was good but not outstanding. We had to wait about 10 minutes before somebody came over to our table to give us either water or coffee. But once we got our attention of our waiter things are fine. I would still recommend this restaurant and I would go back when I went back to San Francisco5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMSaturday Brunch with StrollerWe had an unusual set of requirements - Saturday brunch with my wife, 3 month old in a stroller and my parents. We needed parking close by and a 1045 AM reservation. Grand Cafe fit the bill perfectly. I knew we were in good shape when I saw the ramp. The servers were very accommodating for the stroller and for when my parents were 30 min late due to ball game traffic. The food was fine. The shining star was how effortless the staff made the meal. Thanks!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful French Onion SoupThe specials here, rabbit the night we dined, were terrific. My guest loved the Old Fashioned. We had an excellent meal overall.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMService AtrociousWe made a reservation for a large group (approximately 15 people) through OpenTable, for a Monday networking brunch. There was some confusion as to the final size of our party, and though I called the day before to clarify that the size had grown to 25 people, I was told that--though restaurant space was adequate--the Sunday staff had no way to communicate this change to the Monday staff. When my party of 25 people arrived on Monday -- all physicians on their best behavior for the purpose of political networking-- we were met with a waiter that was truly obnoxiously rude. No waiter that relies on tips could have gotten away with such callous service, but of course for parties greater than 8, the gratuity is already added to the bill....5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ExperienceWith the Geary and Curran closed for the month, and ACT acting elsewhere right now - Grand Cafe is a lot less busy than usual, so the noise level was much less than it would be with a room full of theatergoers. The food is really good - just perfect for me. I had roasted kale salad and trout. The service was excellent, but again, there were not very many people to serve - so we got a lot of attention.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThis Could Be A Habit With MeFinally found a place in town that serves Old Raj gin. That made me very happy indeed. This is the perfect spot for a meal or a drink before or after seeing a play down the street at A.C.T. I will definitely be back.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMVenerable and ReliableIf your staying in the Union Square area and looking for something a little up-scale with a varied, reliable menu at decent prices and good service, this is the place. We've been coming here for years when we come back to the City and have never been disappointed. The San Francisco Gay '90's decor will have you looking out to spot Paladin. And the new chef has a reputation for great seafood, so am anticipating her influence.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful evening. It was everything we hoped it would be and our waiter and staff were wonderful!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service was outstanding,The service was outstanding, the food delicious, and the wine, perfect. Best lox and bagel in the Bay Area (from a transplanted New Yorker).4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe made reservations but arrivedWe made reservations but arrived late due to traffic and road construction. We were seated right away anyway. I wish I had had more time to look at the menu but we were in such a hurry. It was close to the theater. As an elderly person this was important.

This occasion was to go to the theatre with our 20 year old granddaughter. I was pleased that the waiter checked to see if we were headed to the theatre as he brought us our menus. Everything was served in a timely fashion. Our three different entrees and desserts were all very good. T he wait we was attentive and gracious - just right. The decor, as always, was comfortable and elegant. We will certainly return again and again.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGood serviceI have been to the Grand Cafe a number of times. The restaurant is located in a old building that the locals describe as "old San Francisco". Food is good, wine list is extensive, and the service from the server was very good too. The last time I was there, for reasons that I could not figure out, the server was in such a hurry. This time, service was good and my colleague and I enjoyed our leisurely dinner.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMI can always count on GrandI can always count on Grand Cafe for a good meal and good service. It's a beautiful space that is quite "grand". The staff is very accommodating and they know everything about the menu and wine list. I follow their suggestions and have never been disappointed.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for Sunday Brunch. We went for Sunday Brunch. Everyone ordered something different and each of us enjoyed our meals. This is very close to Curran Theatre so it's ideal if you're going to see a play and want to eat before or after the show. The architecture is notable too. I will definitely go again!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways pleasesWE had a delightful brunch! Nice menu, good service, and a beautiful environment. MIke Kern4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe expensive asparagus appetizerThe expensive asparagus appetizer was very bland, but my pork chop was great as was my friend's trout. Dessert (Meyer lemon creme brulee) was lovely.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMgood for pre or post theatre Theregood for pre or post theatre
There was a very LOUD customer seated near us and even her party could not settle her down ( the drinks were flowing), no fault of the restaurant, but did effect the enjoyment of about half of our meal.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGood dinner prior the theatreGood dinner prior the theatre date. Menu was a bit limited but food was well prepared. Waiter warmed up as the meal went on. Would go again.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding place! Saw aOutstanding place! Loved every minute!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMarrived 15 late for 6:30 reservatioarrived 15 late for 6:30 reservation because of traffic on the Bay Bridge. Grand Café staff were fantastic getting us in and to Jersey Boys by 8:00. They could not have been nicer.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMServing a tantalising menuServing a tantalising menu of fine European cooking, this restaurant is a fine experience. The service is great and the staff helpful.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had an early reservationWe had an early reservation prior to attending a theater production. Our waiter asked if we were on a time schedule and then paced delivery of our meal to get us out on time, without being rushed. Very attentive!4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been to the Grand CafeI have been to the Grand Cafe a few times before, and it is always a great experience. The staff is very attentive and friendly, and the food is excellent. They have a good wine list (as far as I can tell - not a wine expert). The decor is beautiful Art Deco. Overall, it is a great dining experience. Best of all, they are about a block from the Curran Theater, so it is an easy walk to the show after dinner.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Grand Cafe is a beautifulThe Grand Cafe is a beautiful place. The decor is art deco and is done very well. The service was outstanding and the food was creative as well as delicious.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had very good and attentiveWe had very good and attentive service, although the restaurant seemed short handed, and all the servers were almost running. They were out of trout at 6:30 pm, so I had the Coq au Vin, and my friend had the fish, which was a very small piece, and I had to share my chicken, of which there was plenty, with her. The cauliflower soup was wonderful, and her sald was nicely presented. As always, the restaurant was a special place to dine.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food & StaffI like the Grand Cafe because the food is great and the staff is always on the ball. Katie is just terrific. She has even called to update me regarding a seating arrangement before one of my reservations. I cannot say enough about waiter Gary. Not only does he know the night’s menu in detail, he is always at the ready with a recommendation or answer to a question. I have come to request Gary's section anytime I make a dinner reservation because he immediately puts any friend I have dined with at ease and makes them feel special for the evening.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyableThis was my first visit to Grand Cafe but it won't be my last. The food was good, the prices were reasonable and the menu varied. But the best part was the ambiance and the location - close to the theater for a pre-show dinner. Also had great and very friendly service. Enjoyed it very much3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat wine and dinner. OneGreat wine and dinner.
