Diner Reviews
  • "Grand Café is a great place to have lunch with colleagues, friends, and business associates. They have a great menu, the food is excellent, and the service is outstanding!"

  • "Really enjoyed tipsy cranberry salad and the ice tea. Great for afternoon lunch."

  • "A perfect atmosphere for Sunday brunch. We'd love to come back for lunch or dinner on another occasion."

  • "I had never heard of or been to Grand Cafe & Bakery prior to Mother's Day 2014. I was looking for a brunch spot that wasn't in Waikīkī. It was perfect for our family as it was casual, easily accessible, and kid-friendly. The food was tasty. The pastries lived up to their reputation. The worst part was the parking. Everyone had a good time. The wait help was a little slow to respond and there was a little bit of quirkiness with billing, like they wanted my credit card before I even reached the restaurant. I almost didn't go because of it, but I decided to give them a chance and I was glad I did. My daughter noticed their summer hot lunches and asked if we could come back for that, so I guess I'll be visiting again!"

  • "Great menu, but best of all are the staff who have pride in their work and genuine attitudes. Aloha spirit prevails at a little neighborhood gem surrounded by great art work."
    Dined on 4/22/2014
  • "Everything I tasted in my 3 visits to Grand Café were excellent. I think I tasted that special "Aloha" in the food. This time was no different. I think I missed seeing your wine/alcohol list. If you did have one, it was not offered at our table. Your new location is bigger and the ambience is there. Service staff were "jolly on the spot""

  • "Food was very good and the service was great on this visit."

  • "My past experience with Grand Cafe and Bakery has been very good however this time my first choice was not available (Turkey Sandwich) so I ordered the braised short rib which was not up to the quality they are known for. One of the pieces was overcooked and dry. I am sure this will not be the case if I were to go to this restaurant again so I will still frequent Grand Cafe and Bakery."

  • "very familiar with this restaurant and it never disappoints me. food is outstanding and service is always good."
    Dined on 3/2/2014
  • "TABLES ARE SPACED FAR APART ENOUGH SO YOU'RE NOT IN THE NEXT TABLE'S CONVERSATION. FOOD AND SERVICE WERE GOOD. A NICE PLACE THAT SEEMS A BIT AWAY FROM THE USUAL DOWNTOWN PLACES."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "Food and atmosphere was very nice. You will feel very welcomed there and are able to hold a conversation."
    Dined on 2/4/2014
  • "Grand Cafe is a nice place to try for lunch. Service was friendly and our meals were good. Menu selection was ok. I thought prices were a bit on the high side. The unique location makes you feel like you are a bit away from the usual downtown rush, which is nice."
    Dined on 1/17/2014
  • "This little café is a nice change from the usual downtown eateries - it is tucked away in the bottom of the Honolulu Art Museum. The food was good, service was very friendly. I thought the prices were a bit high for what we had, so I would not be going here often, but is a good place for a lunch meeting with clients."
    Dined on 1/14/2014
  • "The ambiance is fresh and the food tasty. Add great service and you have one of the finest lunch venues in downtown Honolulu."
    Dined on 12/30/2013
  • "Great location, good food. The only complaint is that while our server was pleasant, he seemed to have too many tables to attend to. The house iced tea comes with free refills, that was a plus. Go early as the restaurant gets noisy when it's busy."
    Dined on 11/20/2013
  • "I used to love the Grand Cafe and Bakery in Chinatown. I was very sad when I went there one day, and it was gone. Imagine my delight when one of my dearest friends told me it was now in the Hawaii State Art Museum. I shouldn't have gotten too excited. The Sunday brunch at the new location leaves much wanting: I wanted a lunch item to go with the breakfast items because it's called "brunch"; I wanted a menu that matched the one online; I wanted more reasonable prices; I wanted the lemon cake to be as good as it used to be. One should not want so much, I guess."
    Dined on 10/27/2013
  • "Probably not a fair review because I loved their old location in Chinatown. The food was ok, but not fabulous. Same with the service. Would I go back? Probably not."
    Dined on 10/25/2013
  • "Nice little cafe inside the Hawaii state art museum, Service was hindered by one waitress that seems not to know what she was doing, hopefully it's just her first day. Foods were good except for the missionary chowder which was very salty Tuna melt and Caesar salad were good"
    Dined on 10/1/2013
  • "It's been a while since I've truely had great customer service. We were pleasantly surprised by the personalized attention we received from each worker. Oh yeah, and I loved everything we ate."
    Dined on 9/29/2013
  • "Went for a work lunch. Glad to have made a reservation, as it was packed. Food quality, presentation, taste stellar! It's an oasis in the hustle and bustle of downtown."
    Dined on 9/20/2013
  • "ambience very nice but cost too high for luncheon to be enjoyed more often."
    Dined on 9/13/2013
  • "For a peaceful, unhurried, and friendly atmosphere, this is the place to go. Wonderful croissants and pastries but also hot breakfast/lunches (the house-made corned beef hash with poached eggs were perfect). Everyone eyed and oohed the next table's French toast."
    Dined on 7/7/2013
  • "Lovely setting, bright and open. Waitstaff were all attentive without being instrusive. Lovely hostess and everyone seemed to genuinely enjoy what they were doing. Food was excellent and well-presented. Staff was keen to the lunch hour scene, i.e. you can eat here and square away your bill well within an hour if you need to, or linger, or stroll the premises and view the art work."
    Dined on 6/14/2013
  • "I don't know what it is, but they seemed to have lost their touch after moving to the new location. Took co-workers there this week and it was well... disappointing, especially after I talked it up so much. Maybe they just had a bad day - but the restaurant was hardly busy. Kitchen service was slow. Not sure if I will give them another shot or not. Unfortunate because I had been a patron of theirs for several years when they were at the other location."
    Dined on 6/13/2013
  • "Took my bestie here for lunch. The staff was very friendly and took the time to talk to us about many of the menu items. Our servers were great, and when it was time for dessert, we enjoyed the award winning lemon cake, only to be then greeted by the creators! We had a wonderful experience!"

  • "Mona and the staff make dining a pleasure at the Grand Cafe!"
    Dined on 5/19/2013
  • "Went for Mother's Day. Not sure if it was worth the $45 per person charge."
    Dined on 5/12/2013
  • "Sunday brunch was a little pricey. Selections were good. Fish was bland and tasteless."
    Dined on 5/12/2013
  • "I was so looking forward to the Grand Cafe Mother's Day brunch at its new location. Sadly disappointed---bland, tasteless, & over-priced. The curry chicken needed more curry, the fish was dense & over-cooked, the muffin w/the eggs Benedict was too hard to eat, even the bacon lacked the bacon flavor. I won't venture back nor recommend Grand Cafe for its buffet."
    Dined on 5/12/2013
  • ""I hope you have a reservation" was a such a pleasant greeting from the hostess. Bland ice tea at room temperature on a hot, humid day followed. Food was bland and service was slow. No one ever came back to check on our table after food was served. I will not return to Grand Cafe until it can live up to its name."
    Dined on 5/2/2013
  • "Great ambiance. Good service - the workers are happy. Food's enjoyable. A little pricey, but serving sizes are quite large."
    Dined on 4/3/2013
  • "Food was excellent, but the service felt "rushed." I guess we overstayed the time alloted for our reservation because our server brought desserts to us in take-out boxes. It's nice for special occasions because it can get pretty expensive, but the food is very good."
    Dined on 3/20/2013
  • "We were celebrating a birthday of my assistant in my office and our food took an hour to get to us. I had to ask the waiter 3 times the reason for the delay and he said it was because our order ticket had fallen to the floor. all they gave us was one free piece of dessert."
    Dined on 3/8/2013
  • "I was excited about the reopening of Grand Cafe in its new location. However, while my experience was good, the restaurant still needs to adjust to its new space. Our reserved table was in a cramped location, where I had to squeeze into my seat so my chair wouldn't hit the wall. Three different servers took our drink orders & recited specials, all with different dish descriptions. Then overattentiveness changed to total lack of attention. When the dining room filled up with the noon lunch crowd, we were forgotten. Once the food had arrived, the server's job was finished. The special sandwich of the day, seared ahi, was cooked nicely but utterly bland and without the promised grainy mustard."
    Dined on 2/19/2013
  • "Service needs some help. Don't walk around looking for something to do. Communicate with your customers if the kitchen is backed up. Don't forget to serve drinks and soups before the main dish arrives. After dropping off the main course, come back at least once to check on your customer. If you want to be efficient, never go to and from the kitchen empty handed....maybe we got the new server because the veteran waiters were hitting it, I felt jealous of those customers. That said, the food was as it was at the previous place, yummy! Same furniture = same cute ambiance. Looking forward to going back to see how it's going to evolve in its new place."
    Dined on 2/14/2013
  • "Food was good, but no wow factor. Service was slow, waited over 30 minutes for Reuben and Pasta primavera at lunchtime."
    Dined on 2/13/2013
  • "Grand cafe is an old favorite. I was sad when I heard of their closing, but so happy that they've found their new home at HiSAM!"
    Dined on 2/7/2013
  • "Service is slow (took 30 minutes for our food) and ran out of a number of lunch menu items by 12:15. But the food we did order was outstanding."
    Dined on 2/5/2013
  • "what a great place! the menu was simply delicious. i had the crab omelet, my friends eggs benedict and the pasta. portions were perfect. i can't wait to go back and try the french toast!"
    Dined on 2/3/2013
  • "The food was as good as I remembered it from their location in Chinatown. It's still really loud and hard to have a conversation in this location when the restaurant is full. Go early if you want a quiet table along the edge of the restaurant. But all in all, I'll be back!"
