  • "The duck special was terrific, the pizza was soggy and bland."

  • "As in the past, we enjoyed immensely our meal on Sat. night. The Stracitella appetizer and pizza with prosciutto and truffles were superb (though the pizza a bit pricey...). We all loved the main dishes including lamb chops and pasta with seafood, and the desserts (tiramisu and choclate torte) were superb. We'll be back again!"

  • "We have been at Gran Gusto a few times, but that was the 1st time were service was very slow!"

  • "Excellent neighbourhood restaurant. A bit off the beaten track but worth the trip. Trattoria-like feeling, personal service, nice wine list, good value. We came over to the restaurant in Cambridge as we struggled to find a table for 6 in Boston on Saturday night. Good move!"

  • "This was our third visit and our best yet. As always the food and wine were excellent; nothing pretentious just delicious homemade pizza and pasta matched with new and interesting wine choices served by attentive and engaging staff. Oh, an the gelati was the genuine article! It was Friday night and Gran Gusto was full of end of the week happy people of all ages, from couples to tables of eight. This was a true trattoria ambiance, with rooms full of good noise and happy diners."

  • "We had a delicious assortment of dishes and the service was very attentive. Wide selection of pizzas, tasty salad, pappardelle was cooked to perfection. The bottle of Montepulciano wine was the perfect accompaniment to the meal."

  • "Personalized service, genuine Italian ambience, and very good food. You can go on a Saturday night and not have to wait for hours, but reservations are a good idea. Excellent Tiramisu!"

  • "Great food and fun atmosphere Lots of food imported from Italy. Interesting wine list. Great pizza. Just a real gem-- a piece of Italy in Cambridge"

  • "We had a "special" truffle pizza that was unforgettable. It was SO good. We also had gnocci, chicken, more pizza, delicious wine, desserts. Everything was delicious."

  • "Great food, funny waiter, and got more energetic as the night went on. Was looking for a quiet place to have a great dinner and conversation with my partner. This was a great place. Great wine choices (we went with a carafe), salads were delicious, dinner was great and the right portion, and deserts were ok. We had a great time, and the customers began really flowing in as we left. I'd highly recommend. I would think the biggest group would be ~8-10max, but only for a pleasurable dinner, not a business type."

  • "The food at Gran Gusto, including pastas made on the premises, is fresh and creative without being different just to be different. The service is polite, the wine selections intriguing and affordable, and I felt as though I was sitting in a trattoria in Italy itself. With good honest food at prices one can afford to pay more than once in a blue moon, Gran Gusto will be one of our regular haunts."

  • "Italian authenticity in an unexpected location. Comfortable, warm atmosphere."

  • "Our first time there and we had a great experience. Highly recommend really good food and you won't break the bank. Tables are large and nicely spaced. Pizza almost as good as the real thing."

  • "I've been to Gran Gusto twice within the past six months. My impressions from this most recent visit were consistent with those of the first: the meals come out tasting bland, and the preparations are lackluster and uninspired. I can't, for the life of me, understand why so many diners give this restaurant high marks. I agree with one previous reviewer who appears to have had a similar experience to mine: it's like dining at Bertucci's at twice the price. There are plenty of very good and great restaurants in Cambridge ... unfortunately Gran Gusto just isn't one of them."

  • "Welcoming neighborhood spot with wonderful Italian warmth. Grilled calamari is special, so much better than breaded and fried. When available have the pasta with truffles."

  • "Very tasty gluten free pasta. Looking forward to coming again soon, will call ahead to try their in house made GF pizza. Nice wine list too."

  • "Our food was delicious, and best of all, really like our experience in Italy. The pizza, which two of us had, was the only pizza I've found around town that could favorably compare with the real stuff in Italy. The specials and desserts were also outstanding. This is our go-to Italian restaurant now."

  • "I always take new friends to Gran Gusto for the ambiance and food. It is quiet but warm and friendly. The service is attentive but not intrusive. And the food is reliably excellent and genuinely Southern Italian."

  • "Most amazing pizza in the area, even my friend from Italy says it's better than most pizza there. Amazing, and great service, great beer list too. Food is fresh and quality is superb, and not expensive at all. So awesome."

  • "We love Gran Gusto, and are repeat customers. The wine list is excellent, and the staff very knowledgeable and willing to help you select a wine. Gran Gusto just got their full liquor licence for those who do not like wine. The food is perfectly prepared; from appetizers, through main dishes to dessert. I have been here as part of an intimate dinner for two up to a holiday party for work with a group of 30 people. Each experience has been excellent. I highly recommend the trip to this hidden gem in Cambridge."

  • "Gran Gusto always delivers--nicely turned food, very good wines, ingratiating service. It's a neighborhood standby for us, but worth going out of the way for as well."

  • "I spent 2 weeks in Italy this summer and Gran Gusto is the closest you can get to the authentic flavors. The grilled calamari and pizzas make you think you are in Naples."

  • "As excellent as it always has been. I can recommend for almost any occasion with friends"

  • "One of my favorite restaurants. The pizza is the best in town if you like European-style thin crust pizza and heavenly buffalo mozzarella. They don't skimp on ingredients."

  • "Why trek all the way to the north end when amazing pasta can be had in North Cambridge!"

  • "What a great discovery. This little restaurant tucked away on a back street in Cambridge is a gem! Every dish was beautifully prepared. The owner made everyone feel welcome and cared for. The restaurant was filled to capacity, but it never felt crowded and the noise level allowed for quiet conversation. I look forward to visiting often and working my way through their enticing menu."

  • "Had not been to Gran Gusto in a while. Service and ambiance still OK, but the food was mediocre overall. Don't know if the chef is new. Took a pasta dish with scallops which were microscopic, had very few shrimps and a sauce that was too salty. The aragula salad had too much lemon in it. The almond/chocolate cake did not have much taste, though the Tiramisu my husband took was delicious. The wine by the glass was expensive for what it was. I felt it was like eating at Bertucci's but for twice the price."

  • "This was our first trip to Gran Gusto for lunch, where we split a salad and pizza. The bread recipe (both appetizer basket and pizza crust) continues to be outstanding and the staff split our single salad into two smaller plates when served, a thoughtful alternative to how most restaurants would just give you an extra empty plate. The pizza was well-sized for two people and its sauce was especially good. I wished it were easy to make something spiced that well at home!"

  • "This restaurant is a little off the beaten track but well worth the visit. There is ample parking in the rear after 6pm. The decor is pleasant - several rooms painted to look like you're on an outside terrace with windows peeking through to other areas. Food was very very good authentic Italian. My wife started with the carpaccio which was excellent, and I had the special of very fresh shredded mozzarella and speck. We both had the special of pappardelle with lobster tail and shrimp - delightful. To finish we shared a ricotta cheesecake which was also excellent. The wine list is extensive with selections from many Italian regions and in a wide price range (we had a good Nebbiollo). Service was very friendly and attentive. We're going back!"

  • "This has been a go-to restaurant for us. Especially for taking out of town guests. The food is great, an while the ambience is a little clichéd, it is comfortable. Our last experience with new guests was, however, disappointing. The server seemed distracted and not attentive to our table at all. He missed an appetizer order (not enough to critique), which we re-ordered when our meals arrived. Then at dessert, he missed yet another request. At this point, the evening was done."

  • "I am a fan of Gran Gusto and have eaten there many times. However, I was disappointed in our recent visit. The quality of the food just didn't seem to be as good as on past occasions. Not bad, just not great. Everyone can have an off night, though, and I am guessing that is all this was. I will definitely return there again because my past dining experiences at Gran Gusto have been excellent. The owner is very welcoming and helpful and the service is excellent without being obnoxious."

  • "Gran Gusto made our lunch memorable. The location of the restaurant is a bit hard to find but once you walk inside the restaurant you won't bf disappointed with the quality of the food. The portions are just enough to make you feel stomach full. Definitely pasta which are fresh homemade and the pizza are as close as you can get in Naples Italy. Over all the service was friendly especially from the owner who came several times at our table asking us how we enjoyed our delicious food. Give this little hidden gem a try you won't be disappointed."
