The restaurant is perennially ranked at the top of Zagat Survey’s ‘Most Popular’ list, and has garnered eight James Beard Awards including ‘Outstanding Restaurant’ and ‘Best Chef: NYC’. Chef Michael Anthony’s highly seasonal menu consists of elegant dishes with a rustic influence that showcase the restaurant’s relationships with local farms and purveyors.

The Main Dining Room serves prix-fixe menus starting at $92 for dinner and an a la carte menu for lunch, and accepts reservations 28 days in advance.

The more casual Tavern serves an a la carte menu centered around the wood burning grill, and welcomes guests on a walk-in basis. The restaurant also features an acclaimed wine list, and thoughtfully selected beer and cocktail offerings.

Diner Reviews
  • "Don't get me wrong, everything was good. The service was great, but well the food used to be great also!"

  • "We were in New York as part of our 50th wedding celebration. We decided to have one major dinner to celebrate. Our son, who is in the restaurant business and had recently sampled many top restaurants in New York recommended the Gramercy Tavern.for us. We chose the dining room with the set menus. Everyone treated us as special guests, as they did everyone, and made our anniversary dinner special and most memorable."

  • "Gramercy has received so many raves we were afraid we would be let down. We weren't. Yes, it is pricey but a truly nice experience."

  • "I've been to The Dining Room, for a dinner with my girlfriend. The welcome was very friendly, only problem having to wait 20 minutes for our table. Our waiter was friendly and he suggest us a good bootle of Cristom Pinot Noir. The first course and second course were exceptional, the desserts were amazing!"

  • "For as many times as we have dined here, the experience still excels. The room:beautiful, the service:spot on and the food sublime. We had lamb, pork, and arctic char (and some luscious apps) that managed the hit all the right notes of richness, acidity and sweetness. It is the balance of flavors that is genius. Thank you to Scott, all of front end staff and of course to the waitstaff who are knowledgeable and so excited about the food. The gold star standard in NYC - they manage to hit every mark, every time, and still seem so pleased when their customers are happy - that is why we always leave looking forward to returning. One of the most grueling businesses in the world is shined to perfection by Michael Anthony."

  • "The waitstaff was very attentive. The food was prompt and cleanup between courses was very efficient. My husband had a number of allergies that had to be accommodated and it was taken into account in all recommendations."

  • "Had been to Gramercy on our last NYC trip, and decided to go back as we'd had such a wonderful time. The food is always excellent, but it's the service that elevates this to being such a brilliant experience - friendly but not fake, knowledgeable servers, and the ability to make customers feel welcome."

  • "I never write restaurant reviews and my dining experience was phenomenal. The food was incredible and the ambience was classy. It was fine dining without being pretentious or snobby. It is definitely a pricey meal, so I would only recommend it for special occasions. Overall, an amazing evening."

  • "Exceptional food, wine and service. Reserve well ahead for best time slots."

  • "Food wasn't that great. More uninspired. For the price, I'd go elsewhere"

  • "I was so happy with everything Gramercy Tavern had to offer. The ambience is amazing especially for my boyfriend and I. It was our first time. There is a set priced menu but that didn't bother me. Service is wonderful. You never want for someone to come to your table. Very pleasant when I had several wine questions. Gave me small tastes of at least 3 wines before I decided which one I wanted. Very accommodating. I definitely say visit this place and make it a go to for special occasions."

  • "Gramercy Tavern is a 10 out 10 every time we come whether its for lunch or dinner. The food is spot on and fresh. Wait staff are always there just when you think need something. We will keep coming back."

  • "This is my all around favorite restaurant in New York. It's comfortable. The staff is well trained. No pretentions. I've been going here for years and never had a bad experience. Never."

  • "Terrific in all aspects. Food, ambience, and character. A restaurant of exceptional quality, whose ambience is will exceed expectations every time. A top 5 choice in the city, without reservation."

  • "A group of 4 of us were perfectly taken care of. You will be hard pressed to find a restaurant that will make you feel more welcome and comfortable. We went with the tasting menu and our server paired up some amazing wines (and a beer) with our meal. It was a truly incredible dinner from the vibe in the room, to the incredible hospitality of the entire team, to the perfectly executed food. There is good reason it is consistently one of the best in the city. In 2 days in New York we had the pleasure of dining here, Union Square Cafe and Maialino and all 3 were beautiful experiences. You can never go wrong with a USHG restaurant."

  • "I just had my 50th birthday lunch here and it was superb. Spectacular food, great wine and a great waiter who got excited at any question about the menu and wine list."

  • "My husband and I had a lovely dinner here on Saturday night! We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated immediately. The service was incredible and very friendly (but not pesky). We had the seasonal tasting menu with six courses--all of which were delicious and perfectly proportioned. They even brought out complimentary cookies and milk for my super-pregnant self. We would go back in a heartbeat!"

  • "While very expensive, Gramercy Tavern, is worth saving your cash for the splurge for the sit down dining room. Do the three course meal or the tasting menu option. For a special birthday or anniversary, let them know in advance upon confirming your reservation and they will send an extra dessert on the sly to honor your family member or occassion and do it up right. This restaurant is clearly the best of all the Danny Meyer restaurants that I have dined at. Service, atmosphere and food are A++ Excellent! If you like being waited on hand and foot, enjoy eating food that makes you feel like your tastebuds are in heaven, then you must experince this restaurant at least once. They even give you a tiny wrapped cake to take home with you-Awesome!"

  • "THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL. LOVE EVERYTHING THERE! YOU'LL REGRET IF YOU MISS THIS RESTAURANT.!"

  • "My first time at Gramercy- what a fantastic meal. Chef Michael Anthony has a magic touch with grains (quinoa, farro, lentils) and fish (cooked gently, without butter). Excellent vegetables all around, subtle cooking, great flavors. Superb service. Lovely atmosphere. An absolute winner."

  • "While the food was certainly good, compared to other venues in this price range it was not memorable and subpar. The dining room is beautiful, but tables close together and very NOISY. Service seemed off for a Michelin star venue; dishes are dropped off with a "This is the lamb" or "Here's the pasta" but nothing more. Not much warmth, personality or effort. The lobster in my appetizer was chewy and undercooked, though my entree (lamb) was quite good. As Gramercy Tavern is so popular and I had heard such wonderful things I am hoping this was simply an off night, but I was unimpressed."

  • "Ate here with a group of friends and had and awesome time, we got the tasting menu and every course was delicious. The service was outstanding. Several people got the wine pairing and they did a great job with that as well. We would highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "We had a wonderful evening-the wine list was extensive, the food excellent, the service impeccable and the ambiance was lovely. We look forward to coming back."

  • "Gramercy Tavern is still a great lunch spot. It exemplifies fine dining is a quasi-country ambience. You feel special when you eat here. Also noteworthy: although it is not inexpensive, it is more reasonable than some other top restaurants in New York City."

  • "Food was interesting, delightfully presented. Smaller portion sizes much appreciated. Just enough we did not have wine ( business meeting lunch) so did not review the wine list. Excellent sensitive waiter service. Ambience feels traditional without being stuffy"

  • "Wonderful food! Fantastic service. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about all the food and the wines. We even received some extras for our celebration. I cannot say enough good things about our experience. It made for a very magical night."

  • "From start to finish, every detail and every morsel was perfect. The waiter was knowledgeable about the food and wine and offered substitutions to accommodate allergies. Another magnificent meal made our anniversary celebration most memorable."

  • "Years ago I recall reading a Gourmet magazine review of Gramercy Tavern and living in Berkeley, I put the restaurant on my "must eat at" list for my Manhattan adventures. After finally timing an available reservation to align with a trip, I first ate there on Friday, March 28 after a Broadway show. With excellent service, comfortable chairs and banquettes, tablecloths, impeccable food, and matchbooks disappearing from all the "new" and trendy restaurants, I was overjoyed to discover a restaurant, new to me, with these attributes necessary for me to thoroughly enjoy and remember a restaurant meal. I look forward to my next visit to Gramercy Tavern, even if my only reason to fly to New York is for a visit to this restaurant."

  • "Had a very lovely meal, not rushed and ended with surprise take home. It is expensive but was our last night in NYC so felt worth it."

  • "Dinner was delicious, and our waitstaff was extremely attentive and accommodating of dietary restrictions."

  • "There was and is nothing to complain about here. We came away exceedingly happy with the food and the superlative staff, a rare result for a highly touted restaurant. And, equally rare, was the sound level which permitted actual conversation. For once, the price of the evening was more than reasonable given the level of all aspects of our experience. We will look for reasons to return. The only quibble is the difficulty of getting a reservation -- a hurdle easily surmounted by using the OpenTable site."

  • "What an awesome meal! I had the lamb loin with the braised shoulder and the mushroom custard. Increible!"
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "The ambiance of the restaurant was very good. Tables were well spaced to provide diners with adequate room and a feeling of intimacy. The decor was very pleasing. Service was excellent. We were going to a show and needed to be out in 2 hours and that posed no problem for staff. The menu was in the style of modern American food and very inventive. The food was superb and matching wines well chosen by the waiter. This restaurant was a delight."

  • "Had the tasting menu in celebration of a special occasion. We hadn't been to GT in a long time. Service remains excellent but the food was only solid. The vibrancy of each dish varied from one to the next. Still a good restaurant..."

  • "Place bustled with energy, but not too loud. Food was unbelievable! Beautifully presented dishes, but not too precious or overly manicured. Best options were the Lobster Pappardelle appetizer and the Lamb/Hen of the Woods entre. Our server Steven was attentive, articulate, extremely friendly, and clearly an expert in hospitality. Danny Meyers only hires experts in hospitality. It certainly amounts to a pricey dinner, but it's worth every penny. Perfect for a special occasion. If you have lots of money, you should go at least once per week."
