  • I eat a lot at high end, culinary restaurants.

It wasn't a special night for food. Dinner had all the earmarks of "high end restaurant food" and yet was nothing remarkable, except desert which was indeed unique, with pear and tapioca. The service was wonderful though, and that always increases my enjoyment of a place tremendously. I wish I could remember the name of our excellent waiter to thank her directly. (She was from California). Her service was exceptional.

Always a distinct pleasure to eat here. Warm greeting at the front door; attentive, professional server to guide you through the evening, thank you Steven; beautiful dining room with high ceiling which keeps noise level down as does wide spacing between tables; food that is varied, interesting, beautifully presented and capital D Delicious. We love, love, love Gramercy Tavern.

Gramercy Tavern has been our favorite New York City Restaurant almost since it opened. The ambience, decor and service have always been above reproach, the menu an invitation to explore and its execution more than gratifying. Neither pretentious nor indifferent, Gramercy Tavern is fine dining exactly as it ought to be. I suggest the Tavern for a livelier experience and the Dining Room for privacy.

I find this place on Trip Advisor between top 10 New York restaurants. We had taster menu and one bottle of wine and I was really pleased with food and great wine selection. Service was also really good and I would definitely return back. Btw you get small present at the end of dinner.

We took my mother to Gramercy Tavern to celebrate her 65th birthday and it was just perfect. The food was excellent, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere lively without being overwhelming. It's easy to see why this has been one of New York's most popular restaurants for the last 20 years. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back!

We make it to Gramercy at least once a year, and try for two, but we live in DC. Each time, we have a wonderful night and this latest was no exception. Fantastic service from Dave and Dennis! The Concord Grape special cocktails were a nice Fall touch. All courses were memorable and for the first time we got the cookie plate (with milk) as a dessert - definitely worth trying sometime if you go.

With all the hype about Gramercy Tavern, I thought the food here would be close to the best I've ever had. Although the food was good, it was on par with any other nicer restaurant (i.e. not worth $100 a person). The best part about my dining experience here was the service, which was impeccable, and the ambiance.

How lucky I am in live in NYC and be able to dine at the GT ! I try to have all my family and friends have their special occasions here and I happily have my own birthday meal here every year at least for the past 15 years or so. There is no better place in the world for food and service and I have never been disappointed. This year because of our server my very high expectations were even exceeded Can hardly wait for our next visit to the amazing GT !

Our waiter recommended an excellent wine to pair with my smoked arctic char and -- when the order proved slow to come out -- topped up my glass at no charge. Dessert was beautifully presented and worth the calories, with the best espresso I've had in months. The food and the knowledgeable, gracious waiter were so good that I plan to return on my next visit to NY.

We were deciding between this and Bouley for a special-occasion dinner in the city. In the end, we decided on Grammercy because is it a classic NY establishment. The food was on-par with other tasting menus I've had. the duck was a real stand-out, as was the apple dessert. The server paired each course with a wine, and every wine was spot-on. The attitude and approach is a bit understated which I found refreshing--they let the food speak for itself. Next time, I would probably try elsewhere, just because there are so many great places in NY, but I would definitely recommend Grammercy Tavern.

It is hard to complain about anything at Gramercy Tavern. Even arriving at 11 pm for the last seating, you are treated like royalty and there is no rush at all to get you out of there. The food remains consistently excellent. There were two unpleasant surprises recently: an amuse bouche panna cotta that was, well, strange; and a pear panna cotta for dessert (tasting menu) that was so sour it literally was inedible. But the halibut, and duck and oyster soup . . . wow! As I wrote after my last visit, if I could eat 3 meals a day there, life would be very good, indeed.

I was a little underwhelmed with everything from the food to the service. For this caliber of restaurant, I expect more. Firstly, after sitting at the table for 10-15 minutes we finally had to ask a busser if we could get a server - we hadn't been asked for our drink orders and didn't have food menus. Thankfully, the service improved after that. Also, I was surprised (and disappointed) to learn that their specialty cocktails are made in batches - at a restaurant like this I would expect each drink to be made to order. We selected the seasonal tasting menu, and while the food was very good, there was nothing special or memorable about it. Gramercy Tavern is a perfectly adequate choice, but I think I'll stick with my other Michelin favorites.

This was our 3rd visit to this fine restaurant-surely one of New York's top 10. We tried 2 different tasting menus one of which was vegetarian. All 6 courses of each menu were excellent and I must mention that the waiter's suggestions for wine pairings (offered in 3 and 6 oz. glasses) were superb.

Very eclectic wine list, asked to speak to the sommelier. It took 10 minutes to get her to the table and she was clearly not well informed. The food was imaginative and delicious/flavorsome but served cold. Service generally was poor/SLOW but friendly. Previous visits to this restaurant were more memorable, maybe they had a bad day. Very busy, perhaps too busy, not one star Michelin standard in my estimation, need to sharpen up their act.

I have been living in the City for a year now and I have tried many restaurants of any kind. I have to say that this is the first one that has the perfect combination of any aspect that you expect from a good restaurant: good food, good ambiance and good service. We went with two marathon finishers and they offered us a complimentary glass of sparkling wine at the beginning and a cute cake as a dessert. One of my friends said: I think we made the perfect choice and I completely agree. I will definitely come back.

Everything was exactly as we had hoped - the atmosphere, food and service were all first class without being stuffy or pretentious. We had another wonderful dining experience at Gramercy Tavern. We love the fall menu with squash, bacon, and other great flavors in the dishes. For an appetizer, the spinach farfalle was amazing with a very tasty broth -- one of the best dishes I have ever had with the flavors Gramercy is known for. For the entre, the wild striped bass and artic char were both excellent. We were impressed with Isabella the sommelier who described the wines so well and was not opinionated on the selection. We cannot wait to go again!

Cozy atmosphere as we were seated in the part of the dining area that is a bit secluded from the main room. Food was excellent. The subtle flavor of the fish was not overshadowed by the accompanying ingredients. The duck, cooked just right. The staff was welcoming and efficient, and we got great wine-pairings with our set menu. Given the high standard of food and wine I think we got very good value for money as well.

We have dined at Gramercy Tavern several times on various trips to NYC. It has been my husband's favorite restaurant. The atmosphere was lovely as usual. The service we received from our waiter was excellent. Here is my complaint. This is very nice not inexpensive restaurant. I'm sure many people visit when celebrating a special occasion. We arrived at the restaurant early expecting to have a drink at the bar before our meal. Am I wrong or isn't this what a lot people do at nice restaurants? They meet up in the bar and have a drink before dinner? Oh no, not at Gramercy. The entire bar area, not just the tables, even the bar itself are reserved for folks who are dinning in the bar. There was no place to wait. Front staff rude.
