Food was excellent. Creative, bold, and a delight to the senses. Service was good until when we paid the bill. Maybe it is the custom here but the waitress never did return with the change. At least she should have asked if I want the change back. I usually give my tips after the change is returned so this made it really awkward and lowered the overall service level, which would otherwise be very good.

I went to Gramercy Tavern with my boyfriend on a Tuesday night. The dining room was pretty and surprisingly lively for a Tuesday. My favorite parts of our meal was the smoked trout (a large piece for an appetizer) and the chicken dish, which melted in your mouth and was one of the best chicken dishes I've had. The lamb I ordered was pretty good too, but if I went again I would probably get the chicken or try one of the fish dishes. For our dessert, we got a sample of three cheeses and a plate of cookies. Gramercy Tavern also has a very extensive wine list and the service was prompt and professional. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a romantic night out!

Having been to multiple Michelin starred restaurants around the world we had high expectations. We ordered the Autumn tasting menu and were very hungry when finished due to TINY portions, undercooked fish, and bread service only when you could find a bread server to ask for it. As a friend likes to say we have been here 3 times: first, last, and never again. This indeed was a tavern and not a fine dining restaurant.

Party of 4, two with food allergies. Server checked with the chef for each person and reviewed results with us. Same for desserts and amuse bouches. This was a first. Outstanding. Calming ambiance---unusual for Manhattan. Food beautifully prepared and served. No sauces and muted seasoning. Emphasis on extraordinarily high quality ingredients. Superb desserts. Terrific wine list.

We ate at the informal restaurant for lunch & the more elegant restaurant for dinner. In my opinion, lunch is the way to go. I didn't want much, so I ordered the nearly raw vegetable plate with 3 sauces. The vegetables were what you would expect & the sauces weren't very interesting, so it wasn't exactly exciting. My husband had the hamburger and it was delicious. Our companions said their soup was fabulous & sandwiches were very good. For dinner, we went with 4 friends. Most ordered the beet salad. It was fine, but again not exciting with nearly no dressing. My chicken was well cooked but plain. Same for the vegetables. The bill with reasonable wines was $160 per person. Bottom line - expensive & well-prepared food, but nothing creative.

We decided to order the chef tasting menu for $120 per person. the coordination of the waiters in removing the used plates and utensils, provided with new ones for every new taste was out of this world, a theater production. I can't decide which one of the selection I liked the most, the taste and presentation of the food was impeccable. I will definitely recommend this restaurant and for sure will plan a next visit when we return to NY.

  • An American Classic

Gramercy Tavern has evolved into an American classic, with an attractive, warm and inviting ambience, professional, caring service and excellent food. This is only the second time I've had lunch here and the lunch is as good as the dinners. The lunch tasting menu is perfectly proportioned with servings that are small but sufficient. We started with a subtle turnip dish followed by a perfect, luscious seared scallop, an Asian style halibut in a ginger scented broth and small slices of tender savory duck breast. We had a choice of cheese or dessert, my friend chose the confection and I selected 3 cheeses. There were no condiments served with them, though they were good on their own. Wine recommendations were spot on. Always a pleasure!

About making sure we felt welcomed and appreciated. Bridget, the manager, was especially helpful in leading us on an exploration of wine pairings. I've dined at GT more than 75 times over the past 15 years. We went for a special occasion birthday -- like we have for this occasion for more than 10 straight years. It took 20 minutes go get served a glass of water, 20 more to get a glass of the wine we brought served to u. Fortunately I was more than capable of refilling our glasses. I pulled the server aside and explained because we had kids with us -- 7pm reservation, now 745pm -- we wanted to pick up the pace because one had an athletic event early in the morning. Service didn't improve. We got out of the restaurant at 1020pm. First time ever at GT that I've had bad service. Sad -- it wasn't one person, it was prevalent throughout the staff. #NEVERAGAIN

This storied restaurant is showing signs of a meltdown. The service was atrocious when I had lunch here with a friend. The food, while tasty, was not the experience it once was. I was craving a hamburger afterwards. For what they are charging for a meal here, this is more of a tourist trap trying to live off its past.

Although there have been inconsistencies in the over twenty years my wife and I have been dining at Gramercy Tavern, it is overall one of the finest dining establishments in the world. Michael Anthony is definitely our favorite Tavern chef and that includes Tom Colicchio. I'm not the one to usually go to fancy restaurants but I figured I'd try it for once. Came here on a date and was absolutely blown away by the service. Was 20 minutes early for my reservation and waited at the bar. Service at the bar was impeccable and the transition from the bar to the dining room was seamless. Our waiter was also one of the nicest people I have ever met in a restaurant and knew exactly when to check up on us and when to leave us alone. There was no time pressure to order at all. The food also came out in a timely manner and was delicious! We received a lot of extra bits of food on top of what we ordered. Will definitely look forward to coming back here again for other special occasions!

The staff are great and unpretentious (Michael who has been here for 20 years served us again) , the setting is warm and cosy, and the food is excellent fine dining. Wine list also top notch. If you want a great place with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, utterly predictable in terms of service, setting, food and quality - this is the place !1 Great job as always Danny Meyer.

In a certain way, it's hubris to even comment because admittedly, I skew to the Mediterranean cuisine and GT had always been meat interested. Still, whenever I sit in the main room, as opposed to the tavern, I find it hard to get excited about the menu. As much as I love the place and have been quite regular for 15 years, in the dining room I particular, I never struggle to decide, in ways, it feels like a desultory choice in fact. I feel there should be more variety and scope, but again, admittedly, I'm mostly a pescatarian who is obsessed with veggies. To wit: I had a side of Brussels sprouts, a small kale salad and an heirloom burrata salad for dinner tonight at Block 34 in San Matei, CA. OwneR/chef alum of gt!

After being around for 20 years, you still need to book a month out to get a Sat. night reservation! We decided to do the tasting menu, which was pretty seafood centric. I always seem to forget how at the beginning of a tasting menu, I feel like I'm going to need a slice of pizza on the way home to all of a sudden being stuffed. The food was delicious and very interesting without being over the top. The service is what really stood out for me. I've never gone through that many different sets of silverware during the course of a meal. I felt sorry for the dishwashers! Also, the wine list was impressive and the waiter helped pick a great wine.

The Gramercy Tavern is one of the finest restaurants in NYC which is why you need to make your reservations precisely 28 days in advance at exactly 10AM. Open Table secured our reservation while my husband tried by telephone and could not get the time requested. As always the service and attention to detail were impeccable. I order a specialty drink which I didn't especially like but would have nursed it when the waiter read my face and came over and asked said he would exchange it even though I said "It's OK" Everyone of our party of 6 ordered something different and everyone was absolutely thrilled with the food. Keep up the good work!
