Wasn't as a wow experience as I thought it was going to be, but got to try a michelin star restaurant that had adequate portions, fine service, and lovely atmosphere. So on par with some of the better dining experiences I've had, but perhaps I was thinking it was going to be more exciting as it was a michelin star.

The name still conjures up the image of a top notch romantic restaurant, but since my last visit several years ago, service seems to have declined...and I felt like the place has become more of a tourist attraction. The tasting menus are lovely, but very expensive, so for that price, I expect superb dining experience. I think the problem is volume. Many diners order multi course dinners and the staff is constantly running around trying to keep up with the pace of each table. Our plates were withdrawn too quick and some plates arrived lukewarm. I felt rushed. The wine service was also sub-par. I did not get the impression that there was a competent sommelier. I did appreciate special efforts given to our guests who are getting married soon.

I thought the menu looked somewhat ordinary before I went there but I figured I shouldn't let that get the best of my decisions to dine here. I thought every course was incredible. My sister showed up a hideous mess and incredibly late and our waitstaff still shower her no judgment (though I still did). The coconut pudding dessert was one I'll never forget. Thank you for making our dinner so wonderful.

One of the nice things about Gramercy Tavern is that once they start to recognize you as a patron, you feel even more special. The food was delicious as usual. The service was wonderful. The only complaint of my guests was that the chive bread wasn't warm and the dessert plates should have been cleared sooner. (Granted, this was only an issue because we had ordered more desserts than we had diners!)

Yeah, it's far from a new and exciting choice for a meal, but it doesn't really get any better. Definitely a top-3 lunch pick for NYC. Service is always perfect along with the food. The lunch prix-fixe was very well-timed, and the portions were spot-on.

With attentive service and attention to detail we were well taken care of. We sat in the dinning room area...elegant and well appointed. The beet salad appetizer was refreshing, our main consisted of a pork dish that was to die for. This restaurant is still a standard of excellence.

I had very high expectations, with all the hype. My view is probably skewed because I had been to another fabulous restaurant the night before that was incredible, so Gramercy had stiff competition. We were alarmed at the very long wait between courses. One server dripped water all over me and my glasses. Another could not be understood and got mad when we asked him to repeat himself. I did ask for my lamb to be medium well, so I partly brought in on myself, but my masseter muscles got quite the workout chewing. Other courses were fabulous - the beet salad with quinoa, the agnolotti with corn and ricotta, the flounder with cherries. My cookie tray was adorable, served with milk and a straw.

Longtime fan of Gramercy Tavern. Sadly have been a bit disappointed by the food (seasonal tasting menu) during the last two visits. Simply not up to the standard that GT has long been known for. My wife and I loved the cod, halibut, and duck portions of the menu, but the scallop portion was a bit too fishy tasting, and the tagliatelle too sour/acidic. We also found the apricot panna cotta dessert to be bland and not sweet enough. Service and ambiance of course continued to be exemplary, but the missteps on the menu prevented the evening from being a memorable experience.

I have been here a number of times. While the food was excellent as usual but the service has definitely not what it used to be. The server was hard to understand and felt that tables around us got much better attention. Unlikely I will return to this restaurant again since there are lot more restaurants that have excellent food and much better service for the money spent here.

Took the boyfriend here to celebrate his birthday it's his favorite and my first time. We chose to do the tasting menu the seasonal (meat) and veggie options, amazing! We couldn't decide on what bottle of wine to get so Alan our waiter said he would choose for us that we we could start with white and finish with red. He not only choose great wines but had superb instinct of when we needed another and what kind for each dish. There was one that really stood out so I ask if they could write it down for me, they came back with a note in an envelope which I thought was a lovely touch. They also brought out a beautiful little cake and gave us muffins for the next day to celebrate my boyfriend's bday. An expensive meal but worthwhile!

My partner and I went to Gramercy for our four year anniversary while holidaying in New York. I had heard good reviews and had been recommended by a colleague who is known to be very particular about where he dines. We arrived an hour early for our booking to see if we could have a drink at the bar while waiting. We were told they would see if there was anything they could do and, sure enough, there was a romantic corner table available. We ordered the 3 courses and we're not disappointed! The food was incredible, and attentive service. We took our time eating and enjoying the wine, and were treated to a complimentary desert with 'Happy Anniversary' written on it in chocolate. A night we will surely remember!! Cannot wait to go back again!

The food could have been better. Serving size are quite small for the price. The menu doesn't change often enough. It could have been more seasonal. My pork loin entree with pork belly was strange. The texture of the loin was limp and squishy and there was a minuscule little square of pork belly the size of a crouton. Very I appealing. Skip the dining room and eat The bar menu!

It was a particularly special occasion being my 22nd anniversary and my wedding night. Although I didn't expect mountains to be moved for us, I would have thought the experience deserved a little gravity from more than the very sweet and kind front of house staff. Our waiter was personable and informed but the overall service was not exceptional. I have been to this restaurant many times when everything was seamless and ran like clockwork. Unfortunately it wasn't on this special night. The food was good but not as good as times past. Maybe it was an off night. With all the other amazing restaurants in the city I really believe Gramercy Tavern needs to examine all operations if they want their loyal fans to keep coming back.

Extremely overpriced for average tasting food. $96.00 for a small appetizer, entre (3 small slices of lamb shoulder, 2 bites of sausage & some ratatouille) and desert. Worst of all was nothing was really special for the palate. Doubtful any of the four of us would ever return to this place which is highly rated and always sold out.

My wife and I had the tasting menu on August 2 and we could not have been more impressed. Each course was superb. Service was friendly and non-obtrusive. Each dish was delivered with a quick (rather than long-winded) explanation. Staff had clearly tasted everything and were knowledgeable, made excellent wine recommendations and were very flexible, for example, by changing our dessert option. The food was expensive but reasonable for what you get. We left well-fed but not feeling overly stuffed as is sometimes the problem with these menus. This is a must try for anyone wanting fine dining

My girlfriend and I came for a Friday lunch and both had the 5 course tasting menu in the main dining room. We enjoyed the lobster and fish courses but thought the duck was the best! I had a few glasses of wine with lunch which our waiter helpfully recommended. For dessert they brought an extra chocolate cake which was very kind. The only critical comment I would make is that the dress code is certainly not enforced. I saw a guy wearing shorts and running shoes at one table and a woman in jean shorts in another. If the reservation department calls in advance to remind you of the "business casual" dress code they should probably enforce it. Nevertheless, all in all a solid experience for a nice occasion. Will be back for sure.

As I have for many years, I had a birthday lunch at Gramercy Tavern. When they confirmed the reservation they asked if I were celebrating a birthday. I said I was, but had recently had a death in my family so I did not need any accommodation; I was not celebrating. However my lunch guest told the waiter something entirely different, and I was given a very nice birthday dessert (in addition to my usual cheese plate.) The food and service were wonderful, as usual, and my out-of-town guest was suitably impressed and requested to join me for my birthday next year as well.

We are not hicks. We are from Boston and enjoy all types of food and fine dining. We were looking for something special on our 30th wedding anniversary and we found it. They asked in advance if it was an occasion - as a result we were treated to Proseco before dinner and a wonderful extra dessert (layered coconut cake with Happy 30th written on the plate. We chose the tasting menu. Each of the 6 courses was wonderful. Lobster salad, duck breast, haddock, squid ink spaghetti. Portions were appropriately modest given the number of them. Just might go back there before our 50th Anniversary.
