A word from Graffiato
Chef Isabella serves seasonal, artisanal pizzas and small plates inspired by the food he grew up eating in New Jersey prepared by his Italian-American grandmother. With heavy influence from Chef Isabella’s Mediterranean and Latin culinary training, Graffiato is anything but a traditional Italian eatery. Roasted potato gnocchi with pork ragu, chicken thighs with pepperoni sauce, charred octopus with tomato mostarda and mint, and hanger steak with pancetta and wild mushrooms are a few of the signature wood oven roasted dishes. Broccolini with red pepper relish and smoked beets with sheep’s milk ricotta are popular first plates. When the kitchen closes, the oven will stay fired to feed Washingtonians looking for a late-night bite.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The corn agnolotti was terrific as usual, but I can't help but feel that the quality of the food has declined since I've last been there. I have been to the restaurant at least 5 times, and only had great things to say about it in the beginning. But it hasn't been as good as the first few times."

  • "This was my second visit to Graffiato's, my first being so good that I wanted to get back. Sometimes you eat at a nice resaurant and have such a good experience that the next visit cannot live up to the first experience. This was definitely not the case at Graffiato's. The food was fantastic and the service was perfect. This place is a winner!"

  • "Been wanting to try this place for awhile. Came down from NY and made a point to get reservations. It definitely did not disappoint. The food is amazing!! Modern Italian food with fresh ingredients and little twists!!! The white pizza with prosciutto and honey is still all I can think about. The rockfish, octopus, gnocchi, cauliflower were all our favorites. We loved the way the food was presented as well, everything is small portions intended for sharing and they inform you ahead that food comes up when it's ready, not all at once, which we loved. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun with a large bar and open kitchens. Staff is friendly and helpful. I really have nothing bad to say other than I want more !! Chef Mike your food is bomb!!!"

  • "Great resturant, awesome food and service. Jersey shore pizza is the best. Pork chop and pepperoni sauce and flat bread out of the world"

  • "Went here for an after work date and had an amazing meal. The sweet corn agnolotti was definitely the highlight, but we also shared a small salad and pizza which was a perfect amount of food. The happy hour looked great - I'll be back!"

  • "We sat in the bar area in order to enjoy the energetic vibe that comes from that area. The service was great; our waitress was extremely attentive. We even saw Mike Isabella pop out for a minute."

  • "Not too many people mention the great happy hour at Graffiato. It actually starts at 11:30. $5 DC Brau beers and assorted wines and procecco. We had a drink at the bar during happy hour and then went to our table. Great kale salad and a interesting combos for the pizza. It was noisy and there were not many folks there yet so I would think it gets even louder later when more full."

  • "Ordered "express" lunch of three courses for a business lunch. Our dishes never arrived together, with awkward pauses waiting for delivery of the companion's dish each time. Drinks did not arrive until mid-entrée. One and a half hours into the "express" lunch I had to ask for check and dash to meeting rather than continue to wait for the third course. had to pay cash rather than wait for credit card to process. Unbelievable. They literally could not have gotten anything else wrong. Never again."

  • "The "special" pizza was bland and so was the spaghetti. The best dish was the asparagus. Our waiter seemed to not understand that "iced tea" requires ice and an empty glass suggests refills would be appreciated without having to flag him down. I understand now why it was mostly empty at dinner."

  • "Food was good but my wife's food came about 5-6 minutes before mine. Her portion was incredibly small and she was nearly done before my food even arrived. Wait staff was crowded around the bathroom making my wife's trip incredibly uncomfortable since she could hear them talk about her through the door."

  • "great pizza and kept our glasses full of water. also ate the beef plate and delicious."

  • "The pizza took a while to come out, so I'm glad we ordered two appetizers prior. We enjoyed the flatbread and pepperoni sauce (the cheapest and best appetizer) and a battered eggplant dish while we waited. Once the pizza finally arrived what seemed fifteen to twenty minutes later, I was pleased with what I found. The crust wasn't as crispy as I would've preferred, but it was still hearty and we were both full by the end of the meal. It took quite a while to get service after the entree came out. I wanted dessert, but service had become decidedly less attentive so I asked for the check instead. Overall, the service and wait times are what ultimately dinged this score, as the food was solid."

  • "And the service generally is too -- once it starts. This is the second time we've been here later (e.g. after a movie) where, once we're seated, it's 15 minutes before waitstaff comes by to ask about drink orders. Since it appears to be a calm-after-the-storm scenario rather than waitstaff being overwhelmed, I suspect that there might be something of a coordination issue between hosts/waitstaff re where/when parties have been newly seated. Great place for vegetarians (and for teenagers who like an urban vibe)."

  • "We enjoyed this for the most part, but there were two main difficulties. The first was that there was way too much food. Part of that was our fault, but we were interested in the Tasting Menu…we should have split that, or taken more home. The second difficulty was that the food came out too quickly…not enough pacing between courses. This may not be that type of restaurant, but as Top Chef fans from out of town, we would have liked more time to enjoy all the food. It was, though, excellent food…we were just seriously full for a few days after. We would come back…but we would probably order off the menu. It seems like I am complaint about getting too much value…it is actually the pacing that was the problem. The service was quite good."

  • "Thankful we opted to dine at Graffiato. My group LOVES pizza (except for me, can take it or leave it). They naturally have their fave spots and regional styles, but had not heard of Graffiato; I was aware of this spot by 6 degrees of Top Chef separation. We arrived early and were graciously greeted by the host & bar staff. The drinks - neat martini, Jolly Roger, and the seasonal punch - were all perfectly mixed and refreshing on a hot summer day. Once upstairs, had the pleasure of window seating (this resulted in a great, dry, view of the downpour). We enjoyed a the porky's revenge pizza as well as the wood oven oyster, octopus (rotioni?), hanger steak, sweet corn agnolotti & Chinatown rib plates. All perfectly prepared. Will return!"

  • "The service was absolutely excellent. The food was mixed. Some of the dishes were tasty, while others were not a good melding of components. The sweet corn agnolotti was good; the pesto risotto was so-so and uninspiring; the Chinatown ribs were dry with too much sauce."

  • "But still a nice array of well prepared dishes. The standout was the calamari ragu. Fennel, capers and peppercorns combined to offer a surprise wtih each bite. Service was mediocre. Waitress brought the wine only after the first dish was served and we reminded her, water glasses were unfilled, and although pleasant in demeanor, waitress lacked the grace that we would expect."

  • "Grilled octopus, sweet corn agnolotti, and negroamaro wine from Calabria? What's not to love? Maybe non-wooden benches and a lower decibel soundtrack and waitstaff that's eager to please."

  • "Nice spot if you are in the mood for lunch that's casual but just a bit upscale. The cucumber gazpacho was really outstanding."

  • "We went to Graffiato a couple of years ago and thought it was great. It had been awhile so we were hoping that it would be as good -- it was even better. Everything we ate (and we ate a lot) was delicious and as were the drinks. We had thee chicken thighs in pepperoni sauce, the flatbread with pepperoni sauce, the asparagus, the oysters, risotto, the American pizza, and a pizza with duck (don't remember the name) that was my favorite thing that we ate. The flan dessert with strawberry ice cream was the perfect ending to a great meal."

  • "The gnocchi is to die for, the Goodfellas pizza was excellent, and the zeppole alone was worth the drive into DC. The service was quick, which was great since we were on a bit if a schedule. One of our favorite places to dine."

  • "We ordered a number of small plates, including the corn agnolotti, roasted oysters, roasted cauliflower, fish special, pizza and a few others that I cannot specifically recall. All of the food was fantastic and we all enjoyed being able to try a numbered of different dishes. However, we were seated on the first floor near the bar and it was very loud to the point we could not have a conversation without yelling at each other. The benches at the tables were perhaps the most uncomfortable seating arrangements I have experienced. Perhaps seating on the second floor is better and should have been requested?"

  • "As a Top Chef and Mike Isabella fan I was excited to go to Graffiato but the food blew me away.... Was excited to see the special for the night included pepperoni sauce which was every bit as incredible as Gail made it out to be on the season finale of Mikes Top Chef season! Other favorites were the gnocchi and omg the cream cheese croutons in the ceasar salad! Pizza was also really good! I was drawn in by the name but will go back again and again for the great food!"

  • "The food was, for the most part, very good. The good dishes were amazing, and the bad ones were quite bad, so I imagine that some people can have a bad experience here. Sweet corn agnolotti was one of the best things I've ever eaten. Tilefish with spaghetti squash was disgusting. You have to order the breadsticky things and pepperoni sauce. Goat cheese cheesecake was what it said it was. I don't like goat cheese, but I got it anyways. It tasted goat cheesey. I am an idiot."

  • "Be prepared to spend about 50% more here. Even the bread -- which ironically was delicious -- cost an extra $2. Nothing special about the food otherwise, and certainly not anywhere near the high cost."

  • "Whenever I have guests who are vegetarians I take them to Graffiato. So many choices, and all so delicious, the carnivores do not suffer. Our server was cheerful and the pacing was perfect. Note: a long flight of stairs up to the dining room, and it is noisy both upstairs and downstairs around the bar."

  • "Great "small plate" and a convenient alternative to Jaleo. Agnolotti and octopus were wonderful. were excellent. This is really not anything like New Jersey Italian-American fare, but it's very good."

  • "Had a great experience here. Small plates (as noted by the waiter when we got there) and a little on the pricy side, but so worth it. Food was unique and so incredibly good! While the didn't have a kids menu, they accommodated my 8 year old with a custom plate of hand-cut spaghetti with just butter, cheese and basil which she loved. Deserts were also different and yummy."
