Diner Reviews
  • "While our table was ready for our party of 11, and the waiter was good at getting us bread and wine fairly quickly, it was almost two hours before our food was ready. Had some very hungry people ready to devour the food! Everyone was happy with the menu choices, but the wait was really too long. It was a Saturday evening, so a busy night, but still -- two hours! The only other issue was they ran out of the wine we liked. We went through several bottles waiting for dinner to be served, and our first choice was gone after the first two bottles we ordered. The second and third choices we tried were not great. So, I recommend if you are patient."

  • "Special house salad was delicious. Veal chop was very tender and juicy, but a little overpowered by the gorgonzola crust. Wild boar chop was tasty and perfectly cooked. Chocolate mousse was pretty standard. Nice choice of very good wines. Check for 3 of us was over $250 before tip. Worth it for a special treat."

  • "From the moment we arrived the staff was friendly and the ambience set the mood for a romantic date. The wine selection was great. The food was amazing! And they made the night complete with dessert cannolies. Definitely recommend you treat yourself to Gourmet Italia!"

  • "I found this place through Yelp a few years ago when bopping around Temecula. I love Italian and have worked at several fine dining restaurants so I am pretty picky. I've now been here for romantic dinners, family celebrations, and most recently my 35th birthday & have always left with a smile on my face. The food is fresh, authentic, and delicious. Every dish had its eater groaning with gustatory pleasure. The service is impeccable. Angelo is a total sweetheart and creates the ultimate experience. He anticipates every need and makes you feel as if your in some long lost relative's home. He knows the menu, the wine, and when to be present. The owners are super sweet and even the busboy was right on time every time. EAT HERE!!!"

  • "Located in a strip mall and not having very much for signage (to find the place), we didn't expect much, but what the heck, we were hungry. We were pleasantly surprised. From the time we entered the restaurant to the time we left, we felt like we were in "Little Italy". The food was outstanding, and so was the service. If there's one gripe, it is a little noisy for such a small place. Bottom line, go see for yourself. We'd give it 5 stars except for the noise and being difficult to locate."

  • "This is a great Italian restaurant and compares to one of the best I have experienced in San Francisco or Walnut Creek area. This was our 2nd time to this restaurant and Angelo was our attentive waiter. The food was outstanding, service was impeccable and we will be returning again soon. This is a very special place for a special occasion. It was our 31st anniversary. Thanks for a great evening Angelo....."

  • "We spent a couple of days in Temecula and had read great reviews about this restaurant, so we decided to check it out and were NOT disappointed! The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. When we asked our waitress a question about the olive oil the restaurant uses, she actually brought someone over (owner, manager, I'm not sure) who explained their oil in depth and brought out a couple dishes of it for us to taste. Excellent dinner experience. I would highly recommend it."

  • "You will feel at home when you visit this restaurant. We went on a Friday day night, the owner greeted us, as he always does, and showed us to a table immediately. We had made reservations on Open Table. They had a great band playing for ambiance, not to loud. The staff was on the ball even though they were packed you didn't feel rushed or neglected. The food was excellent and because we were celebrating birthday and anniversary they surprised us with a fabulous dessert. This is a family owned restaurant in Temecula that is worth driving the distance for. If your local its one of those places where you feel like a friends house for dinner and want to do it once a week!"

  • "Temecula is so lucky to have Alex's two restaurants! The food is amazing, there are always great specials on the menu and the wine list is superb! Alex grows his own grapes and makes his own wine, definitely worth trying! Alex also grows his own vegetables, fruits and olives, and chickens provide the eggs. There is not a bad choice on the menu, it's all good! We've been eating here since we first moved to Temecula in July of 2005 and will continue to eat here and recommend Alex's two restaurants to everyone, both residents and visitors alike!"

  • "Five of us dined here. Fantastic. Angelo, our server, was hilarious and professional. Food was delicious. Four of us had the caeser salad and agreed that it was perhaps the best we had ever had. The veal chop was outstanding. The entire dining experience was just so much fun. Food, wine, service - all top notch. Can't wait to go back."

  • "The owner is from Sicily, and his servers include his daughter who recently came from Sicily and a family friend, also a recent transplant from Sicily. This place is fantastic! You'd think you were visiting Sicily! Great food and service. Highly recommend it. Why dine at a chain restaurant when you have a local option like Gourmet Italia. The owner has a great sense of humor too. Dinner and a show! Go check it out."

  • "My wife and I ate here for our anniversary and we absolutely loved it! The service was prompt, personal and friendly. The food was excellent, from the antipasti to the pasta and the suggested wine pairing fit perfectly. The atmosphere can be romantic but also good for families. Not the best place for kids. We'll definitely go back the next time we're in Temecula."

  • "I strongly recommend going for lunch or off time for dinner. Early or late, its a small place and it gets busy. Great food!"

  • "We showed up early for a reservation, but did not want to wait to be seated so we sat at the bar. Food was very good, but it took us over an hour to get our food. Unforetuneately, we had not eaten since breakfast and by the time the food came, my spouse had too much to drink on an empty stomach. As a result, the good food that she had did not stay down and made for a unpleasant rest of the evening."

  • "I normally don't have the time to leave reviews like this, so I don't bother. But I just had to comment because this restaurant was amazing! As I told the owner on the way out, this was one of the top five meals of my life. I ordered the special--rack of lamb with risotto and I was shocked to find myself wanting more risotto! The portions were great--I had about twice as much food as I expected and it was like a party in my mouth with each bite I took. It is also fun hearing the workers speak to each other in Italian. You feel like you're really in Italy. The only downside is the location. This is one restaurant where you don't necessarily want to sit next to the window. That being said, we sat there and loved our experience!"

  • "We don't get enough of these so each one is important. Read the reviews for Gourmet Italia and thought we give it a try. We were both very happy with our dining experience. The food was excellent, and my baked lasagna was a home run. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious meal in a romantic and authentic setting. Also the service was perfect. Attentive to your every need but not suffocating."

  • "The food, service, everything was amazing! The salad my wife had was fantastic, along with both of our entrees and the dessert was to die for. I normally don't write reviews but this place is well deserving of it and I would highly recommend it for date nights, romantic dinners, or just a nice evening out."

  • "After a day of wine tasting in Temecula, this was a perfect way to end the day. I tried the Carbonara, and it was delicious. My wife had the Salmon pasta (her usual) and also loved it. Our out-of-town guest from Boston had the Spaghetti Amatriciana with a side of meatballs and said it was the best he'd ever had."

  • "Food was fabulous! Ordered the Seafood Linguine...hubby and mother-in-law had the Veal Marsala..yum. From the bread, to the vibrant flavors of the Ceasar Salad...and the delightful (made at Gourmet Italia) gelato (complimentary birthday dessert)....I couldn't have asked for a better birthday meal. The chef/owner came out to check on how everyone was enjoying lunch...an extra special touch!"

  • "My wife and I went to Gourmet Italia to celebrate her birthday, and liked it so much that we went back six days later! The food is traditional Italian, but expertly prepared. Service was exceptional, from the greeting when we walked through the door and throughout the meal. Highly recommended if you are in the Temecula area."

  • "This is a must try restaurant in Temecula! Great food and wine, and very friendly service. My husband even ordered something that wasn't on the menu, and they made it for him, no problem. It's not a cheap lunch, but you won't be dissappointed at all!!!!"

  • "We had a large group for Sunday lunch and when we arrived we thought we had mad a mistake. The entrance and facade looks seedy and uninteresting, but it gets a bit better when you enter. The service by Cara and the food were superb. Fresh and appealing antipasto platters followed by perfectly cooked home made pastas. Dessert was a real treat (except for the cheesecake which is the only one made off premises, and was quite mediocre.) Try the fresh fruit glacees in their skins or the lemon cello tartuffo."

  • "We went for a fixed menu dinner on NYE. The place was of course pumped. Food was either very good or excellent. The owner has a great sense about wines. He can make spot on wine recs especially IF you understand your palette well. Wil be going again."

  • "We try and keep this gem for special occasions so that each visit is special. Spuntino's is our local hangout! New Year's Eve was special and our only regret was that we boooked too early and could not drag out the meal beyond 10:00pm. Food, service and the MUSIC was great!"

  • "Full disclosure: we had just got engaged 2 days prior, so we were in good spirits, but Gourmet Italia went from "a place to get great Italian food" to "a part of our story". Our server was top 3 all time on my list. He delivered enhanced appetizers, personalized desserts, celebratory prosecco and limoncello, and then sat down with us and recommended 6 wineries. Try anything and it will be great. Sure our experience was unique, but according to a tasting room pourers the day after they are known for this exceptional service and cuisine. Try a bottle of their blend and bring an appetite."

  • "This restaurant had great reviews on Yelp so we gave it a shot and boy are we glad we did! The staff are incredibly warm and inviting and the owner came by our table several times to check in on us. Definitely the type of place that you keep going to over and over again… Unfortunately, we don't live in town. But I highly recommend to all locals!!"

  • "Gourmet Italia is an incredible find. Recommended to us by the folks at Doffo Winery, which is also an incredible find. We had a great Christmas Eve lunch here with Angelo who kept us entertained, and the food was excellent. We will definitely be back again, and again."

  • "Amazing & authentic flavors and aromas -- this ristorante has it all! Our first time...we were personally greeted by Alex (owner/manager) and received superb service from Claudio. Gourmet Italia truly brought back shared memories of the fabulous food and drink experienced after having lived abroad for a year in Italy. Reservations recommended as this place was packed early on Friday eve -- musicians and foodies spilled out the blink-and-you'll-miss-it front entrance. Many locals (many with thick Italian accents) call this place their favorite -- we now agree!"

  • "I'm kind of a foodie. I'm a self taught recreational cook (not a chef-never took a cooking class). Started learning to cook by watching Julia Child in Black and White. I'd say I'm a better cook than most. The food here is fantastic. I've been there twice, and if I can convince my girlfriend (she's a girl, she's my friend) from Buffalo to visit I'll be back more often. I intend to try something different each time I visit."

  • "We love going to GI and seeing Alex and company...every visit makes you feel like you are coming home again! We shared the Caesar salad and the spaghetti ameritriciana (our new favorite pasta dish!)...also shared a bottle of Alex's house-made red wine from grapes grown on Alex's estate in De Luz. Always a great time, love all the wait staff, they take such good care of you! We'll be back soon!"
