Definitely get the chocolate cake - it's like no chocolate cake I've ever had. The service was great - well paced and extremely friendly. Ask for TASHA - she is the best! There was actually a server that spilled an entire tray of sodas near our table, and some of it splattered on my purse, but the manager and Tasha were both really concerned about making up for it. The manager gave me his card and said he would pay for any dry cleaning I needed to have done, and they comped all of our desserts plus gave us a chocolate cake to-go for our friend that had to leave early. Upon entering the restaurant, we immediately were greeted warmly and escorted to a great table. Upon seating, the maître d’ stopped by to make sure we were seated at the table I requested, it most certainly was. Our waiter introduced himself, Janilson, and proceeded to lead us down a euphoric dining experience! The two appetizers, NANTUCKET BAY SCALLOPS and SEAFOOD SALAD, were tasteful, visually beautiful and done to perfection. Our main course, Miso Marinated Black Cod, was superb. The second course, fried soft shell crabs was also very good but it could have used a bit more lemon foam for my taste. The dessert was only so so and the dessert menu appeared to be a bit less inventive and exciting as I would have hoped. Our waiter was very good, pleasant and helpful throughout. We felt well cared for and food was served promptly and properly. promptly in the area we had asked for but when we arrived there was no one to take our very wet coats. Person taking our orders
seemed annoyed w/our French friend who didn't understand what squab was. Our appetizer courses (tuna tartare) were delicious but no one came to clear the plates until I finally got up and tapped a server to clear. Main courses were fine except for the Branzino fish which was covered in a dark sauce that my husband really didn't like. This visit was during the summer, so the weather was good and the temperature was high, so when they called to confirm the reservation I asked if shorts was alowed, it was, and we got the same service as every other in the restaurant.

I had soft shell crabs that were as good as I have ever had with an interesting presentation which was quite flavorful. She even picked the menu items which I tried. Ceviche, Seared Foie Gras and Miso Cod. For desert we had the Gotham chocolate cake. The service was attentive but not fussy. From the website, I noticed that the chef was sourcing many items locally and takes the time to contribute to a quarterly newsletter with recipes. Our only complaint was the very high priced wine list. We order a bottle wherever we dine and mark-ups tend to be higher in NYC than elsewhere, but Gotham exceeded most others. Wish they would bring it down a notch or two. Or at least have a larger range of bottles in the $70-$100 price range. The food quality and presentation was exquisite. Each dish was a carefully painted work of art. My husband had the Prix Fixe lunch and I ordered from the a la carte menu. My husband started with Cauliflower Salad, followed by the Black Cod (which he thought was a bit overdone), and the Key Lime dessert. I had the Fois Gras Terrine, Muscovy Duck (good flavor but a bit chewy), and the Chocolate Cake w/ caramel salted ice cream. My only complaint is that we were the first to be seated and I did not like sitting next to the waiter's station.
