They said it was the best they ever tasted. The meat was lamb, not beef (the way we normally make it). I had fish and chips. The beer-battered fish was tasty, but the chips were HUGE, measuring approximately 1" square by 5" long. This made them crisp on the outside but a bit mushy inside.We liked the fact that the drinks and desserts menu is presented on an IPad, and you can select what you want from there and present the selections to the waiter.
The wait staff is courteous, quick, well-dressed in British-looking uniforms, and knowlegable about the menu items. The beer selection is huge, almost overwhelming. We started with a ceasar salad with anchovies (very good). We had to ask for bread 3 different times before it was delivered. A gentlemen came by and asked if he could take our plates because we were nearly finished with the salad but we said we were waiting on bread and we felt the server may have forgotten it. He said OK and continued on his way of clearing other patrons plates. We thought at first he might check on it but he did not. My wife had the salmon and I had the trout. both were excellent dishes. Wonderful feel throughout with extensive beer & wine list, décor is modern and casual with a true pub feel. Food was exquisite including the complimentary pretzel bread sticks with dipping sauce, my main consisted of the pan seared diver scallops that were cooked to perfection. I have to have a gluten free diet and the waiter was very helpful in this matter and checked with the chef to make sure the entrée I ordered was gluten free. I had the salmon and ordered the two types of peas as a side. The peas were nothing like I had tasted before - they were fabulous. The only down side for me was desert - my husband said his was great, however the only gluten free option for me was ice scream. It would have been nice to have had an option such as flourless chocolate cake. Wasn't familiar with a british food menu, but our waiter was very helpful and clued us in on all the entrees on the menu. Beer and wine selection was on a Tablet PC, very cool! I had very high expectations and honestly expected to be at least a little disappointed. Not the case. From the decor to the service to the food, everything was truely amazing. We had the fish and chips, rolled braised pork belly, cauliflower soup, creamed beet greens and spinach, and spotted dog and sticky pudding for dessert. There is nothing bad I can say about our meal. Some of the best food I have ever eaten. And the service was great. Professional, friendly and attentive. The ambience was exactly what you would expect in a Pub and Grill it was noisy but manageable. Everything was awesome. The prices were a little heavy but it is a Gordon Ramsay restaurant so I expected that. The only major complaint is the cost of a drink. They were more like potato logs than chips. My wife's parents came over on the boat from Scotland, so she knows fish and chips.
This time, she got the salmon and I got the fish and chips. Everything was outstanding except the chips. They were again like potato logs.
Perhaps that is a new way of doing them but I think they should go back to the traditional way. If you're going for a burger definitely have the lamb. Everywhere has beef, but this pub has a great lamb burger. Also, the fish and chips is pa-lenty for an adult, and probably enough for 2 kids. We ordered Sheppard's Pie and Flank Steak and shared. The Flank steak was one of the top steaks ever ordered in a restaurant, so tender and perfect. Loved the cocktails. The Sheppard's Pie looked smaller than it was - very filling, even for two, if you get another plate too. The onion soup was great - a little sweeter and less salty than the french version. Without reservations, we'd have waited a while. It's only steps away from the concert venue, Elton John, so perfect place for dinner if you plan to see that show. The service was good - four or five hostesses to greet you - which one do I choose. It is hard to serve bad burgers, but Ramsay kept it ultra classy in addition to serving quality food. The service staff was friendly, attentive, and kept the drinks full the whole meal.
If you're going to drop this kind of coin on this level fare, might as well get it top notch -
