Chris Nugent is chef/owner of this new 34-seat Fine Dining BYOB restaurant located in Lincoln Square. Goosefoot features a subtle palette of grays with touches of gold and black. The cuisine is an artful blend of French technique with modern vision created from small artisan farm products.   • "We are from Houston and found this place by doing our "pre trip" food research. Thank you to all who reviewed this restaurant because that is why we went and why we tell others to do the same! I have experienced a lot of tasting menus and am always a little but skeptical of having no say in what I will eat orher than just not going there. Thank goodness I did not let that sway me this time because every course was very special and as beautifully presented! The only thing better than the food was the people who worked there! Everyone was enthusiastic, friendly, and willing to share all of that with you to make you feel your are the most special person in the room. Try it as soon as you can so you can go back again and again!"

  • "Took a while to get a reservation but it was well worth the wait and the effort. Excellent and exceptionally creative food via the reasonably priced (comparatively) nine course tasting menu at $135... The BYOB policy really helps keep the cost of the meal down. Couple of suggestions: wait between courses was a bit much, particularly in the early going. Took forty minutes before we were at our second taste on the menu. What turned out to be a 3 hour meal would have been perfect at 2 1/2 hours. Not as luxurious in feel or service as L20 or Tru, though it's hardly a complaint. It's just not that frou-frou, and they don't pretend to be. Everyone was very friendly and the whole meal was a truly memorable experience. Can't wait to go back."

  • "9 courses on the menu plus 2 other little tastes made for a 3 1/2 hour fine-dining experience. This is a $135 prix fixe menu so you eat what is being served. One dish not favored by my palate was the rabbit/acorn/sweetbread/polenta which I ate but I could've done without. With so many courses, portions are small though incredibly attractive with beautiful little edible flowers. My favorite dishes were the chestnut soup, toothfish and angus beef. Service was very attentive but not fussy. We were warmly received by the owner Nina Nugent. The BYO sets Goosefoot apart from other truly fine dining experiences. We will be back for a special occaision if we can snap up a reservation on-line 60 days before we want to go."

  • "The food was absolute perfection. Every dish was so packed with flavor and obvious love/dedication that eating at this restaurant is truly a wonderful experience. From the call you get a few days before your reservation to the owners talking with you after you've finished eating - everything is so full of personal touches and a high attention to detail. If there is a theme, it might be a mix of natural and whimsical, with the flavors going from intense to INTENSE. My favorite dish was probably the angus beef on the bed of beluga lentils with little bits of compressed apple. I'm drooling just thinking about it hahaha. Oh! and perhaps the little roll of guava mousse(?) that was part of one of the desserts. So, so good. An absolute gem!"

  • "No kidding, Goosefoot serves the best food we have tasted in Chicago. Immaculate presentation, every dish is a piece of art! This is our second visit after the first two years back.   • "A small neighborhood resteraunt that happens to have one of the best chefs in the city. Was hard to get a reservation but so worth the wait. Goosefoot is BYOB so brought wine pairing list to Binnys and their guys hooked me up with some nice bottles. When we walked in we were treated like family and the service was great. I handed off our wine and they brought it out when appropriate. The food was beautiful to look at and tasted amazing. A great chef at the top of his game. 11 courses that started delicate and took me on an amazing journey of taste but never overpowered. The courses were accompanied by micro greens which helped add a nice punch of freshness in the middle of a cold winter. Can't wait to go back."

  • "4 hours and 20 minutes on a week night is simply too long for a nine course menu when you bring our own wine and are not spending time either searching for the right one off an extensive list or ordering before or after dinner drinks dr. Compared to other degustations , Alinea, TRU, etc. it was not an acceptable amount of time to wait each courses ( 45 minutes between course 3 and 4!) Food presentation and incredible tastes were amazing, sorry it was spoiled by poor timing.."

Chris came out at the end and was just the nicest guy. With no investors, he did not secure an expensive liquor license. We live wine pairings so we'd like to see them drop the BYOB in the future. I hope he could financially benefit from that!"

My only minor criticism would be that there was a big gap in time between 1 or 2 of the courses, but otherwise the experience was amazing. The Chef came to our table and spoke with us at length about all sorts of stuff and was very friendly. In sum, Goosefoot really lived up to the hype."

  • "Both Chef Chris and his wife Nina were great. The service was impeccable and the food exceeded me expectations. Chef Chris is an artist and you can see that by the presentation of the food and the dynamic flavors developed in the dishes. Each dish was unique and different but the menu flowed very well. They called us a couple days prior to the reservations to confirm and ask if we were celebrating any special occasion or if anyone in our party had any allergies. This was great because one person in my party did have an allergy to one of the ingredients which the chef took care of fully accommodated us."

  • "Every dish in the Goosefoot tasting menu is excellent. There is the standard quality and attention to detail that you would expect with the Michelin-rated tasting menu. The staff are all friendly, with no pretention. This is a husband and wife team: he runs the kitchen while she runs the front of the house, making sure to introduce herself and ensure you are well cared for. I've eaten here twice and have not disliked any of the tasting courses. I also like the fact that it is BYOB. While you cannot pair 6-7 different wines throughout the meal, it allows you to bring 1-2 excellent bottles of wine for less than than a standard pairing. I will be dining there again."

  • "I am new to the food scene in Chicago, even though I am a lifetime resident. The service was impeccable and the small restaurant was cozy, not pretentious. The food is lovingly prepared and the courses, especially the chocolate dessert, were unique and tasty. Chef Nugent is opening a candy store just next door in February. Several courses are new as of 1/7/14. I was able to try them the day they debuted. I'm glad I was finally able to get a reservation after two years."

If you're looking for a unique experience in Chicago that's not overly commercialized this is it. The focus is really on food and the restaurant is very personalized with a greeting from the chef's wife. We were even given the opportunity to meet the chef briefly. Just sit back and enjoy!"

  • "We had been trying to get reservations for over a year, so we celebrated two birthdays with Goosefoot! It was all worth it, though, from the first beet bite to the last bit of chocolate and talking with the chef and his wife. Strong flavors, whether lemongrass gel, a mini turnip, or squash puree, and perfectly cooked fish/duck/beef. A place to really enjoy the food, nothing too mind-blowing, just delicious, well executed plates that look as great as they taste, edible flowers adorning and everything composed like art."

The meal was perfectly timed from start to finish and gave my wife and i plenty of time to enjoy our wine. It's still amazing that a restaurant of this quality is BYOB which makes the price of the meal a steal in our minds. The timing of the meal was spot on and we left very satisfied. We were full, but not stuffed. Every portion was spot on to leave you wanting one more bite. Nina and Chris both came by to speak with us after our meal and we truly felt the passion they have for amazing food and a comfortable experience. Nina the hostess was superb and her husbands dishes were spectacular! 12 courses and 3 1/2 hours later we were done, couldn't fit another bite.   • "I would highly recommend Goosefoot for a fine dining experience. The food is outstanding and the presentation spectacular. Nima Nugent and the wait staff help create an intimate experience and Chef Nugent takes pride in his craft. Courses are sized well, so as not to leave hungry or sated. The prix fixe changes so by the time anyone reads this it may have changed, but I especially enjoyed the Roquefort course and the Pumpkin course. The price of $135 per person is very reasonable especially since it is BYOB. I plan on returning to sample a different seasonal menu. The restaurant is not large so it is not recommend for parties greater than 6 and reservations are not easy to get."
