  • "We sat in their gorgeous garden and it was very nice. However, the food was just OK: the salad was overdressed and too vinegar-y, the octopus came out charred black (really, kitchen? You'd send this out to paying customers?), the fish and burger were OK. Waiter kept trying to push cocktails and wine, even though we told him we didn't want to drink extra between all the wine tastings. Music outside was way too loud. So, lots of areas need improvement if they want to keep up with the big boys of Napa."

  • "This place is a must go to! Excellent and extremely creative cocktails at an affordable price. We let our server pick our dinner and everything was incredible. Swordfish was cooked perfectly, Mushroom soup is OUT OF THIS WORLD...a carryover from Martini House. You can eat inside, outside, in the cozy old school bar downstairs, it's got a place for whatever your mood. A+ for food, drink, location, style"

  • "Loved Martini House. Love Goose and Gander. We had an excellent waiter. The wine list is very nice and well priced. The cocktails are inventive and tasty. The food is just lovely. I had the clams with fettucine and it was hands down the best dish of pasta I've ever had. Will go back - but next time and night and sit inside. Shade only goes so far to keep you cool in Napa Valley in the summer!"

  • "This is a difficult review for me to write because we like this restaurant very much but we had a disaster of an evening. We went there on my wife's birthday because of a number of lovely evenings there previously. Unfortunately, it was one of the hottest evenings of year so we opted to sit inside. Big mistake. Noisy and poor service. Started well but when my wife's clam dish came, clams were served on congealed pappardelle pasta rather than fettuccine as stated on menu. When we pointed this out to the waiter, he was indifferent. Hostess stopped when she noticed my wife not eating and she said that it was "wide" fettuccine. It was wide but not f. Waiter also forgot 2 items I ordered and then forgot one of them again after I pointed it out."

  • "We arrived early for our reservation, was escorted to outside table. Lovely patio and then our server appeared, was delightful! He explained the menu completely and we ordered the special "BLT" that was delivered with an egg on top of fried green tomatoes, crisp bacon, arugula and english muffin plus fresh farm to table side salad. We also ordered off the menu the Fried Chicken Wedge Salad. The chicken was tasty and the traditional wedge was fresh and with great dressing. Highly recommend this spot."

  • "Really enjoy the beautiful outdoor dining area only steps away from St. Helena's bustling and scenic downtown - terrific ambience, wonderful food - I especially enjoy their daily specials and the burger with duck fat fries is not to be missed! Entrees can be on the pricey side so I mainly stick with the sandwiches and salads - but their special cocktails are absolutely amazing and worth the splurge!"

  • "Evidently they were working on their wine list, so the waiter gave us the wines by the glass verbally. We were quite surprised to find out the sub-par wine was $18 a glass. In the future they should give us the prices as well."

  • "We enjoyed dinner June 26, dining in the garden. The service was very good--the food, excellent. We were particularly impressed wit the mushroom soup and the meatball appetizer. My guest had not ordered an opening course to match my soup but she was served a small cup of the soup--a very thoughtful gesture. I also appreciated the wait-server repeating the ingredients of each dish as it was served. The menu does an excellent job here but the reminder on arrival was another nice touch showing care for our experience. We certainly will return and highly recommend this restaurant among St. Helena's best."

  • "Nice food, good service, dirty table We had a mostly nice Sunday brunch at Goose and Gander. The food was good, the service was very capable, and the patio was quite pleasant. The only two problems were 1) obnoxious neighbors and 2) a table which had not been cleaned. Of course, the restaurant was not responsible for the raucous party seated next to us, nor for the overwhelming perfume worn by one of the people at that table, making us gag from at least 6 feet away outdoors. But the staff should have paid more attention to cleaning our table. It obviously was never throughly wiped, since there was quite a bit of old food stuck to it. Because of that lack of cleanliness, I downgraded my rating from 4 to 3 stars."

  • "Food was good in spots. Their burger was juicy to the point of annoying and the bun was super chewy. Desserts and appetizers were great. Drinks were overworked and overdone. Too many ingredients! Which may be why it took so long to receive our drinks from the time they were ordered. Our server was a really great guy, the manager on duty that night, not so much. He seemed young and just not invested in dealing with issues. Plus we saw him check the bill of a party after they left and then leave it on the table.... Weird. The patio is great, if not a bit cumbersome if you're seated in one of the corners. The interior is gorgeous, lot of manly touches. But very warm and inviting. Hopefully, they were just having an off night."

  • "There is some glitch and my reservation never reached the restaurant. Luckily we didn't need one, there were plenty of empty tables. We ordered the octopus as an app and it was really chewy. The special, ahi tuna wrap, was really good and game with a really fresh salad with lots of spring veggies."

  • "Our visit to Goose and Gander was a culinary highlight of our trip to St. Helena. While the aesthetics were upscale casual, the dishes from the kitchen were anything but. From the appetizers which featured duck fat fried olives and delicious chicken wings, to the entrees which featured an exceptional pork t-bone, roasted chicken and an outstanding hangar steak, the food was really top notch. The desserts we ordered (peanut butter cup with salted caramel ice cream and a strawberry shortcake) were beyond description - out of this world. Service was efficient and friendly. So many great restaurants in St Helena, this is one not to be missed if you have time."

  • "Corn croquettes had no corn inside, only corn meal. Basically overpriced hush-puppies. If corn not in season, take item off menu. Has had corn in past. Burger, ordered medium (per server recommendation) arrived VERY well done. Sent it back, and server (not ours) left fries, and brought back new burger, rather than replacing the whole plate, which seemed tacky. My friend's sturgeon was very fishy, however he didn't tell me until after we left, because he wasn't comfortable sending back both entrees. Also, the chef is crazy for fennel/fennel pollen, and puts it in almost everything, but doesn't say so in description on the menu. If you're not a fan (which I am not), tell your server. Our server was excellent."

  • "We recently ate at the Goose and Gander in St. Helena. We love the location and enjoyed many meals when it was Spring St. Cafe and The Martini House! We ended up ordering a bunch of appetizers for dinner and two of us had the famous mushroom soup from the Martini House days...everything was delicious! Definitely try the corn croquettes and the chicken wings (warning - messy but delicious)! Our server, Kara, was a delight and gave us the perfect amount of attention and excellent service during a busy Saturday night!"

  • "Amazing is actually an understatement. For cocktails, you just can't go wrong. The Bali Spice Old Fashion and the Shrub were made with excellence. Details all the way down to the large hand carved ice cubes show the dedication of this restaurant. The burger couldn't be more perfect. We also had the fettuccine with homemade chorizo, it was to die for. The cherry desert topped it all off in an excellent manner. We had a great server who truly cared about the restaurant, I hope when you dine here you get the opportunity to be served by her as well. "

  • "Great cocktail list. Wines WAY overpriced. Food was decent, but not outstanding. The food prices were on the high side, similar to the wine prices. Very loud, so if you are on a romantic date, this would not be the spot. Overall and OK experience, but not worth the price of admission."

  • "We have been to Goose & Gander before and enjoyed it very much. This visit was very off. The server was sloppy, spilling our wine and water outside of our glasses as well as spilling food on our guest. They of course offered to pay for cleaning but it soured our experience. The food was less than par for G&G. I hope they step up their game. And why would they collect our napkins before taking our desert order? Odd experience."

  • "The food and cocktails at Goose and Gander were phenomenal--fresh, inventive, and flavorful. The service, however, was the worst we have ever experienced at a restaurant. Our server was inattentive and distracted, even though the dinner was a special occasion. He ignored us repeatedly and we had to ask for water multiple times. We ordered a bottle of wine which arrived--warm and without apology--when we were almost finished with our entrees. It is a shame that the service was so terrible, as the food was absolutely wonderful."

  • "Sat on the patio (at our request) and it was very hot under the plastic topped patio. Then a band with brass horns started to play and the loud sound bounced under and off the plastic top. Watery, flavorless iced tea. Waitress asked us 4-5 times within first ten minutes if we were ready to order. A huge disappointment. We miss the Martini House. We will not be back."

  • "We had a reservation for an early dinner and for almost the entire visit it was very quiet and empty. That might have been part of the reason we had a server at our table at too high a frequency - where it was actually interrupting our conversation. Charcuterie was very sparse with everything cut way too thinly. Entrees were very good. The gap between coffee and dessert was large, but our server said after the fact it was due to the specific dessert we ordered. Coffee was cold by the time it arrived, though it was nice to get a coffee pot at the table. Servers were very polite. Cocktails very good. The atmosphere is way too dark - to the point of making it difficult to see the food. Mushroom side was chewy rather than tender."

  • "These folks took over the old Martini House in St. Helena so we were quite curious to see what it would be like. Well, we were very happy to see that they had maintained the intimate atmosphere upstairs, downstairs and on the patio. The food and service were very good as one would expect in a Napa Valley eatery. I had a wonderful sturgeon and my wife had the chicken. My only complaint would be the very limited menu. I will say that what they do, they do well. Portions were ample so we shared a dessert for the four of us and they even put a candle in it to acknowledge my birthday. I was both pleased and surprised to find that they did not charge us for corkage."
