The Goodstone Inn & Estate RestaurantMothers Day DelightPoolside photos before brunch, spectaular Virginia countryside views. We began our celebration with champagne, then french onion soup. We shared entrees of chateaubriand, salmon and scallops. All perfectly seared and plated with potatoes or risotto. Each entree served on a uniquely shaped plate. Fresh fruit sorbets, creme brulee and Grand Marnier for dessert. Service was attentive; the Goodstone staff allows us all the time in the world to enjoy ourselves.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellenceThe wine list is impressive and contains many excellent wines from the old and new worlds.
We order from the menu prix-fixe and enjoyed the roquefort and caesar salads, foie gras, wild mushroom crepe, chateaubriand for two, and the desert soufflé. The salads were acceptable. The wife opined that the greens were most likely purchased at Costco. The other menu items were cooked to perfection, presented with panache and were all exquisite gastronomical treats.
Freddie, our waiter, provided friendly and attentive service. He advised us on the entrees and the wine list. We can not say enough good things about Freddie.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a pleasant surprise. It was a pleasant surprise. It lived up to the billing on the website. It is primarily a bed and breakfast facility in a spectacular setting.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGet your reservations earlyThe best seating I could get with 3 weeks notice was an 8:30pm slot. I live 15 minutes from the restaurant and so the late seating worked just fine with the guests that I was entertaining. They were out of the specials and out of the soufflés yet the waiting staff still described them. It was disappointing to order something and be thinking about it only to have the staff come back twice to tell you that you needed to change your order. We took it in stride. Another table didn't take it so well and the chef had to make an appearance to explain. Dinner was great, the staff was very nice, and all tables were very nice. The grounds are lovely to walk around before and after dinner.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA delightful and deliciousA delightful and delicious experience. Wonderful for a special occasion - and romantic, a peaceful setting with lovely surroundings.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMEhhhh.....delicious, but...Positive: I received a call prior to my Saturday lunch resv. to inform me that my group would be dining near a large party, which I appreciated. Second, the food was absolutely spectacular. Every person in the group enjoyed their meals.
Negative: Dress code on OpenTable lists the dress as "smart casual." I was wearing a polo, khaki shorts, & flip-flops. The look I received when I walked in was unflattering as I was told the dress code was business casual--quite contradictory. We ordered our food around 1:05pm and aside from soup & salad, food didn't arrive until 1:50pm. There were 2 beet salads ordered and both came w/out beets! Last, food & drink was VERY pricey. $28 for a cup of French Onion soup & a beet salad, $12 for a draft beer.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSet on the grounds of theSet on the grounds of the GoodStone Estate - a picturesque setting that served as a wonderful backdrop for a special occasion. I truly enjoyed my seasonal salad and rack of lamb; my wife enjoyed the salmon dish. We accompanied our meal with a selection from a deep wine list made available to us. All in all, a great meal, wonderful service, and cozy setting.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AM2nd time here and we'll be2nd time here and we'll be back! Worth it!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebrated my husband's birthdayCelebrated my husband's birthday at this gem. Definitely will return. Food is outstanding and service as well. Everyone made us feel welcome, espcially Freddy. Understated excellence. Wine list is wonderful. Looking forward to seasonal menu.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AMYou just have to go.The chateaubriand was the best we have ever had. The chef was able to prepare it for three and each of us wanted it prepared differently (medium rare, medium and medium well). It was amazing!! The sides were traditional and delicious. We thought that the soufflé was more like an omelet than soufflé, but that was the only downside of the entire meal. We had a terrific experience and will return for other special occasions. If you have not been to the Goodstone, you have to go. It’s an amazing place with really great food3/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Occasion HeavenHad the Valentine Special dinner - could not have been better - ambiance, food, wine, service, meal pacing, variety, friendliness - if you want a special place for dinner in the region, this is the place to go - as good as, if not better, than the Inn at Little Washington.2/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
