Gonza Tacos y TequilaLove this place!Gonza Tacos y Tequila is one of my favorite restaurants! Love the spicy Mexican Mojito with the serrano peppers mixed in. The food is great, the service is wonderful, it's like visiting old friends. The managers always remember us and will even ask about people who are usually in our group, but maybe didn't make it this time. This is a lively, upbeat place and it can get loud, so if you need a little less noise, ask for a corner spot on the covered porch. Music was kind of too loud, but it was good music so it kind of balanced out. Food was AWESOME! But its very small portions... If you're looking for a big meal, get more than just one dish. I love spicy stuff, so as far as drinks, I will definitely be ordering the Spicy Pepino again. It was spicy and refreshing. It would have been a perfect lunch if one diner had only controlled her pre-schooler running around, tripping waitstaff & gorging on the free mints at the hostess stand. If you want a quieter setting, ask for patio seating. I rated the service as 'good' only because the waitress didn't seem very enthusiastic about being there. CHILAQUILES VERDES (chicken / tortillas / crema / cilantro / onions / avocado / queso fresco / tomatillo sauce) are the BEST thing I have ever eaten. Carnitas tacos might be second. Gonza is wonderful.

The service is friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, and they will make you laugh. The environment is open and energetic, making you comfortable to chat up the table next to you. It was a lovely warm evening and the area was full of folks enjoying themselves. If you just turn up you will have a little wait, and the bar area gets very crowded but you normally get a table within 20 mins so if you are very hungry book ahead. The food is great. I dont like mexican resturants that give the food an american edge. This is very basic but is very tasty. The beer is great, but last visit no habenero beer which I missed. The durham beer is my favourite and went well with the meal. Gonza and his management team are always there ensuring customers are satisfied by circulating and talking to them. Food is great, atmosphere is lively and if you're lucky, you may see their live mannequin shake her tambourine when tipped.
