The place is located in a old shopping center near the Stratosphere. Its a long time staple in Vegas. Much the same when Sinatra, Sammy and Dean were running around town. Not much has changed inside. The food is a steak but there is pasta and fish on the menu. Its a much see for those looking for good food an old Vegas restaurant with servers who have been there for over 20 years. Oh..one other thing Sinatra music is playing throughout your dinner.

Very expensive for the look and feel of a Restaurant in a strip mall. "Prepared at your table" means somewhere in the vicinity of. No interaction between guest and preparer. Use anchovies in your Caesar Salad, not paste. Be prepared for that question and not be rude when ask about it.

I heard some nice things about the Golden Steer, but my expectations were exceeded. I had one of the best shrimp cocktails I ever had, the lamb chops were so good, I can't wait to go back next time I'm n town & order that again. Joe the bartender was extremely helpful, knowledgable, & courtesy. I will tell all my friends about the Golden Steer

We went to the Golden Steer for the first time for a birthday dinner. The food was excellent - Ceaser salad was truly the best I have ever tasted. Meat was done exactly as ordered. Service however had major flaw. Even though the restaurant was not full and even after we commented, the courses were rushed. We had not finished with appetizer when the salads arrived. And we had barely started our salads when the main course arrived. In both cases, we told them to not put the new course on the table until we finished the previous one. Needless to say, as I ate my salad, I could only think about my beautiful lamb chops setting under a hot lamp! And, although this is a minor point, it still bothers me: the waiter said that they would be providing a free dessert for the birthday person so we didn't order anything else for dessert. What came was a small, perfectly plain piece of cheesecake. Since the entire dinner (with tip) for two was over $250, I thought that was a little cheap.

I first went to Golden Steer in 1977, and I went there fairly regularly for special family events over the next few years, but since then I've not been back very often. In many ways it is still very nearly the same place it had been 37 years ago, (but without valet parking on a Saturday night): gaudy, Victorian, old-Vegas. The menu was almost the same too. There were five of us. Caesar salad was good but was not prepared table-side as described on the menu. Clams casino was much more breading than clams. Onion soup got a high rating from those who had it. Both the filet mignon and Diamond Jim prime rib (huge) were hits, but the NY Strip steak was diappointing. It was ordered medium rare but arrived medium. A bigger problem with the NY was it was served sitting in something like "au jus" instead of the meat itself being juicy, so the NY steak experience was not as expected and was not particularly good. Lyonnaise potatoes were tasty and oniony and good, as was the shrimp scampi (which, surprisingly, was served without pasta-- it was just large shrimp in sauce). We shared bananas Foster for dessert and it was the highlight of my meal. Service was spotty--we had so many different waiters of one type or another handling our table that we never talked to the same person twice. This resulted in a very long wait for the check when the "head waiter" thought we had already paid. The actual menu was exactly what was on their website, which is not always the case with a lot of restaurants. If you want old-fashioned atmosphere, huge portions, and plenty of meat options, this is the place.

Went there after a recommendation from a local for a good steak place that wasn't on the strip. Appearance of the outside, being in a strip mall and the signage, made me wonder at first if we had made a mistake. Once inside though, the place is full of old style class. Lots of big names stop here and we ended up sitting in Mario Andretti's booth. Not a cheap place...but the portion sizes are very large and in the end, the price was well worth it for the quality of food and the atmosphere there. A very good place if you want to get off of the strip for a nice meal.

This is a fantastic find! In all the times I've been to Vegas, this place was never recommended to me. Found it by doing some research on the internet and boy was I glad! We had one of the best times of our lives. The wait staff was incredible. They went with our fooking Vegas theme and made us laugh all night long. The food was scrumptious, the presentation unlike anything you find in restaurants today, and the ambiance spectacular. I would recommend this to anyone wanting great food, outstanding cocktails, Vegas history, and service oriented wait staff. This will be a place I hit every time I visit Vegas.

The steaks were great. And being from New Orleans I am used to good food. The 18 month old baby did not want to eat his fries, so the Maitr'e de brought buttered mashed potatoes, no charge, which baby Brandon ate. Food and very good wine were served without a long wait. i will definitely go bck when returning to Vegas.

Let me first start off by saying that the tableside Caesar salad was the best ever. I loved the flavor and the freshness. I do enjoy garlic but for those who don't this probably wouldn't rate very high for them. I am hard to please when it comes to steak so I am probably being too critical but my fillet mignon was not flavorful and tasted like roast beef. The sides of asparagus, mushrooms, and lyonnais potatoes were enjoyable. I wasn't impressed with the wine list and was disappointed there wasn't a cocktail menu. We are glad we tried it for the history and for the past reviews but we won't be back. There are just too many more steak places to try.

We went to the Golden Steer for our anniversary. The food was good, but didn't stand out as anything special. Our server was bad, he was not attentive or friendly. It was like he was doing us a favor or something. He made us feel like we were a bother. Also, my husband ordered french fries with his steak and a server came out and said they were coming out dark and they would not serve them. They gave no explanation why this was-it's like hey, don't cook them for so long and they won't come out burnt! What kind of steak house can't do french fries!?

Dining at the Golden Steer was just awesome. The bartender who has been there for years was a character. The hostess was very accommodating, gracious and eager to please. that is rare today in Vegas. Being a native I would highly recommend Golden Steer to anyone who wants to experience what the Old Vegas was like. Our waiter was helpful, delightful and charming. Then, the food. The seafood platter was fresh, sweet and soooo very good. The steak and lobster was cooked to perfection. The lobster tail was much larger than we expected. the service and friendliness of everyone there was spot on. Enjoy the experience!

Since we've seen this place mentioned for being one of the oldest and "best" steakhouses, we decided to give it a try. Overall the food was okay, nothing special. My boyfriend ordered the Prime Rib of Beef- Diamond Jim Cut, rare, and it came out well done. The waiter took care of it right away and gave him a new one. The two sides we ordered were not so great -twice baked potato (was more like triple baked, dry and not much flavor) and the creamed spinach (which was more like a soup without much spinach...and again not much flavor). My petite filet with very tender, the crab wasn't so great. Overall the service was great, but the food was not worth the price. I would rather go to Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab.

Never know it from the outside but this place is a must see/eat if you want to experience Rat Pack era Vegas. Their are homages to the era with posters etc when you enter but the dinng era has a sophistication of steakhouse of years ago. So atmosphere is good. The calamari appetizers were perfect and oysters were absolutely fresh. Steaks were very good as were our sides of baked potato and asparagus. The service however was not good. It was borderline rude. I have been here before many years ago and service was outstanding so I am chalking this visit up to the individual assigned to us instead of passing judgement over the entire place. For now I recommend but that will change if my next visit has poor service.
