Diner Reviews
  • "Food very average, service ok, everything a la carte and slightly overpriced. Just a very tired place."

  • "From the outside the place is nothing to look at, but from the inside it is a true gem. We sat in "Joe DiMaggio's Booth" which was against the back wall. The waiters were dressed up and very professional. They were very knowledgeable of the menu and were able to give recommendations for wine pairings with the chosen entrée. I ordered a bone-in ribeye that was cooked properly but a little bland. The accompanying baked potato was wonderful as was the cheesecake for desert. While the food wasn't "out of this world", I suspect if I ordered something else it would've been great. Nevertheless, the atmosphere and décor makes this a place to try."

  • "Loved this restaurant. You feel like you're going back in time to an earlier era of Vegas. There is booth seating and each booth is named after the celebrity who ate there: The John Wayne booth, the Marilyn booth, etc. The menu is also very traditional. The waiter made our Caesar salad right at the table. The service was amazing (as it seems to be every where in Vegas). We had a great time."

  • "A step back in time to old Vegas. The ambiance engages conversation and the food engages culinary prowess. While it is indeed spendy, you do get what you pay for. This place serves up, hands down, the best steak in Vegas. The service is bar none. There is no shortage of serving staff."

  • "The steaks were very good and the restaurant's ambiance tremendous. It was well worth getting off the strip to experience some of the older Vegas."

  • "It's like walking through a portal into the 70s! Oh, the atmosphere - dim lighting, dank bar, great pics on the walls. We sere seated in the Mohammed Ali booth. Delicious steak, fun cherries jubilee prepared tableside. Loved it :)"

  • "The Steer is steeped in Vegas history (lots of celebs noshed and continue to nosh there)! Charming decor, awesome attentive wait staff, yummy food, and good selection of offerings. Had the onion soup and the chicken of the angels and both were delicious. Yes, the steaks are pricey but you get a dynamic atmosphere here and the cost is not THaT different from meals on the strip! You get a top level experience. The bathrooms are clean and there is parking outside. Not ideal for babies or little tykes, but older kids and adults will love the laid back and yet totally upscale vibe. Expect to spend about 40 or 50 each on dinner (without wine or dessert). Yes, you can wear jeans, but wear a nice top! I love the Steer!"

  • "This place is pure history ! We seat at Elvis's table, our food was great and had a nice selection of champagne and wines The owner was so nice to come over and tell us super fun stories about the mob ,the rat pack and even showed us a scape door in the back, my parent loved how cool this was Stepping away from the fancy restaurants of Vegas this was a highlight for us, and you can even wear flip flops !!"

  • "The food and service at this restaurant are excellent. We ordered shrimp scampi - what a treat, the shrimp are the size of a small lobster tail and the sauce is amazing, filet mignon and chicken parmesan. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I am looking forward to returning soon! Oh and don't forget the Cesar salad, it is fresh and delicious!"

  • "Went here in 2006 and thought the food was incredible. This time (6/20/14), Alaskan Salmon was flavorful, the 12 oz Filet Mignon was "ok" but nothing out of this world and the 3 lamb chops were incredibly fatty and not cooked as ordered. Don't bother with the twice baked potato--get the regular potato. Asparagus with Hollandaise was ok. French onion soup was better than average and the Caesar salad was decent, not over the top. Service was on par for an expensive restaurant but not to the level one would expect for a $300 meal. May go back again but it will definitely be for a very special occasion. Too many other fine steak houses in town for less with better food."

  • "This is a classic steakhouse. I have been coming here ever since I was about 3 years old, and the food and service is wonderful. This is one of the few places that still provide table side preparations of salads, desserts (try the Cherries Jubilee) and Dover Sole. Big Fan!"

  • "We visited Vegas recently and ate at the Golden Steer. Excellent food, excellent service, and a really great history. A must eat at restaurant while in Vegas."

  • "We had such an amazing dining experience. The Caesar salad prepared table-side was the best I've ever had. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Impeccable service. Our waiter was so cool. He has been there for 40 years and we enjoyed listening to the history he shared with us. We've eaten at many wonderful restaurants in Vegas, but this tops the list. What a gem!"

  • "The atmosphere and service were outstanding. We even recived a free dessert for celebrating our 25th in Vegas! The steaks were perfectly done and tasty. See you all next time we are in town."

  • "They say location, location, location determines a places success, I disagree, its people, people, people which the Golden Steer has an abundance of. The hostess was friendly accommodating and a pleasure to dine with, the bus boys were pleasant and respectful, and the experienced waiter was insightful and educated on everything on the menu and the wine list. The steak was fantastic and the twice baked potato was the best I have ever had. I will be back with my appetite which you will need to bring if you plan on finishing your meal"

  • "It's high end 70's style with booths of the classic "Casino" Vegas days, and seemingly the original wait staff from opening 25 years ago. All this adds to the charm even if the Strip Mall location is dated. The menu prices, however, rival modern upscale steak and seafood restaurants in even the pricey hotels on the Strip. Also, sadly, the plates were not very hot when our entrees were served. Otherwise, food and service were at least as good as expected based on the pricing."

  • "Visited Golden Steer to celebrate retirement--it was on my must-visit list of steakhouses in Vegas based on its history. Interesting setting...loved the dark wood and old-school red upholstery. Immediate negative--our waiter didn't introduce himself and was extremely abrupt. Thereafter, he might as well have been absent--maybe my wife offended his sensibilities by asking what the market price for king crab legs was. Table-side Caesar salad was very good. However, the entrees were brought to the table before we were finished eating the salad--nothing worse than feeling rushed through a special dinner. Bone-in ribeye was excellent--easily the best item I had that evening."

  • "A buddy and I struck up a conversation with some locals. We were planning a steak dinner the following night at one of the more well known Steakhouses, but were told that the Golden Steer was the best. We started with the cold Seafood appetizer (shrimp, lobster, crab and oysters) and were surprised that the crab and lobster were previously frozen (in fact they hadn't fully thawed). We asked the waiter to recommend a steak and he said trust me, I'm going to order the right one for you. We didn't anticipate a filet covered with hollandaise, more crab meat and asparagus - in my mind a bad presumption. In the end, the waiter did remove a steak from the bill and bought us drinks and a desert. He tried to make it right and we appreciated that."

  • "Service was extremely poor, we were the only table in the restaurant . Arrived when opened, the waiters were too busy talking amongst themselves. Server not attentive. Did not expect that type of service especially since the restaurant was not busy. We did not get good service until the hostess came over to ask how we were doing. "

  • "Wonderful romantic restaurant, Great wine list. Prime rib was flavorful. Filet was not as good but cooked as ordered. "

  • "The Golden Steer is the best steakhouse in Las Vegas, and it is pure Vegas. Music by Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Dean Martin creates an old Vegas vibe that is sadly missing on the Strip these days. The lovely Stephanie will greet you and make you comfortable in one of the Rat Pack booths. We sat in the Frank Sinatra. The service is excellent and the steaks cannot be beat. Try the T-Bone, it's outstanding. My wife had the best filet of her life. We come here on special occasions and are always delighted with the experience. Thank you, Steph, and all the great people at the Golden Steer. We'll be back!"

  • "Among the best steak I have ever had and I have had some really really great steak, ( I live in Vegas)! Sides/Apps were average... Excellent service! Wish they would do sep checks, always awkward end to great meal/event to have to do the math for everyone...Very pricey, so for special occ for my budget..."

  • "With all the big name choices for restaurants in Vegas, I was less than excited to be attending a work dinner at a place in a strip mall, and so far off the beaten path. All I can say is WOW, was I wrong. The food was superb and the service was outstanding. This place has a great history, and the waiters have all been there long enough to remember when Sinatra, Dino and Sammy were regulars. Do yourself a favor - forget what the concierge says and grab a cab. It's worth a 5 minute ride! Highly recommend."

  • "I had heard about the restaurant from a friend and decided to give it a try with some friends who had flown in from around the world and who are used to a high level of quality. Pulling up outside the restaurant, I was already getting cocked eyebrows and elbows in the rib as the Golden Steer doesn't look like much. Once you get inside, however, the ambience suits the Steer's history and location and it was a great place to dine. Steaks and salads were very good and exceeded expectations. Especially given the good price point compared to many steak houses in LV. Food was excellent, service was attentive, and the ambience was ideal. Would highly recommend to any visitors."

  • "Loved the place. Great food, great service and great "Old Las Vegas" atmosphere. You can reserve a theme booth such as the Sammy Davis Jr. booth, the Frank Sinatra or the Dean Martin booth. Lots of fun. "

  • "Had a nice steak that was well-prepared. The price for the steak was high but not extreme. However all the sides were a la carte and very expensive. I paid $10 for eight medium sized onion rings. The salad was small but good. Overall, the food was good but not great, and certainly not worth the price."

  • "Old charming Las Vegas ambience. Little bit of history mixed with good food. Priced for special occasions. I really believe the higher end eating establishment need better trained bus staff. Great servers must have better support staff...not unique here...I find the problem in many establishment."

  • "I recently had dinner at the Golden Steer as it was recommended by a friend. Everything from the personable hostess to the wait staff to the excellent food was top notch. The ambiance took me back to the Rat Pack days. We were seated in the Joe DiMaggio booth and greeted by the wine server who looked like Robert De Niro. The Caesar salad and petite filet were excellent, followed by Cherries Jubilee. It's nice to get away from the main Strip and have dinner at a restaurant with character, unlike some of the sterile restaurants in the hotels on the Strip. MY RATING IS A 5 STAR AND I WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK."

  • "This was our first time here. What an unbelievable surprise! A classic, upscale steakhouse setting. While you wouldn't know it by looking at this place from the outside; the interior décor will definitely impress. Our greeter and server were very welcoming and professional. I had the petite mignon and lobster tail while my wife had the petite mignon and twice baked potato. All were amazing!! We will definitely return the next time we are in Las Vegas! "

  • "This was my second visit to the golden steer both for bachelor party's . Once again it was amazing all around ! We got the private dinning room , service was amazing , food , everything lived up to what I told my party to expect . They were all as pleased as I was . Thank you again golden steer "

  • "As other reviewers are sure to have noted, the Golden Steer is a holdover from Classic Vegas -- when cigarettes and martinis were everywhere, men wore hats and the Pack was Rat. In fact, the Golden Steer was a favorite haunt of Sammy Davis, Dino and Frank. Vegas may have moved on, but Old School atmosphere still permeates the Golden Steer. Any wattage bulbs over 40 must be banned because the place is DARK and soothing. Photos of the Good Old Days are everywhere. We had the huge Shrimp Cocktails, followed by Filet Mignons. Food and service were very good and good, respectively. We went on a weeknight, so there wasn't a lot of wait for a table. Not an inexpensive meal, but well worth it for a flavor of what Vegas used to be."

  • "A group of six of us visited the Golden Steer last Saturday for a friend's 70th birthday. All of us had heard good things, but never been. It was truly an outstanding experience. The food was fantastic, and the service was just as good. The staff made sure that we had everything we wanted and that the food was perfect. We'll definitely be back."

  • "Was in Vegas for a week. Visited Golden Steer on the first night in town (and first time in the restaurant ever). Liked everything about it so much, I gathered a group and went back for the last night in town too. What can I say? Great bartender in a classic bar. Impeccable service from waiters who've been there for decades and know their stuff inside and out. Fun stories of all the old-time Vegas greats who frequented the place. Oh, and perfectly prepared steaks. Like all things about the "old Vegas", this place may not be around forever (though it would be great it if is), so visit it while you can, and as many times as you can. You cannot go wrong."
