Diner Reviews
  • "The food is very good. The price is high though. Not higher than I expected but I want to be clear for this review that you are paying a good price for a good product. The place is so old school and classic. Need's some capital improvements, but it is kept neat and clean. If you can accept if for what it is, you will love it."

  • "The Caesar Salad was made right at your table. It was the best I had in years! I had Prime Rib and it was perfect. The twice bake potato is a rare find and was so good- I would go back just for the potato next time I go to Las Vegas. The finish was the Cherries Jubilee that was flamed right in front of us and we enjoyed the show and the dessert! We were a family of four and treated just as any business guest. The service was fantastic- you have an excellent staff!"

  • "I always have a wonderful experience at the Golden Steer. Consistently great food, fantastic service and classic ambience, we're always sure to stop by while in down. We recommend to all our friends and are even planning our wedding receptions in their private room. Never disappointed with this place!"

  • "It's been several years since visiting The Golden Steer, and found the food, service and friendly atmosphere even better that 20 years ago, and certainly on a par wit any New York location! Wonderful evening! Can't wait until I again visit Las Vegas, and THE GOLDEN STEER!"

  • "Great food, awesome online booking service. Service was a little slow getting food out due to two very large groups. It is a must to do in Las Vegas"

  • "As locals we love this place. Great food. Although the waiter that we had needs help. He has been there as long as I have been going there which is about 14 years now. He is not very attentive at all. I know some restaurants of this magnitude ($$$$$) sometimes they are over kill with the service. Asking too much if everything is ok. This particular waiter is the opposite. Next time we go we are going to make sure that we don't sit in his area again."

  • "Loved the booths and name plates for booths where famous people sat, like Elvis. Seems just the way it was back in the Rat Pack days of old Las Vegas. Food very old school including Cherries jubilee or bananas foster prepared at your table. Steaks average with a "not so fifties" price tag... Ala carte."

  • "I have eaten in this restaurant since 1968. When Tony still had his pompadour. The menu has changed a little over the years but the food is always terrific."

  • "We always ensure at least one visit when we are in Vegas. The food is exvellent and has never dusappointed us. The service is upper class and its one of the very few restaurants left that provides a 'real' service. I highly recommend it."

  • "Fun, old school restaurant. Got seated at our reservation, enjoyed some banter with the waiter. Ordered Martina's, but one came wrong and had to be remade. Ordered and had bread over our cocktail. Caesar salad made tableside, nice presentation and delicious. The entrees came before we were half way thru the salad. Steak wasn't butterflied as requested, but was cooked properly. They tried to bus the table while we were still chewing!! Sides were tepid because of the wait. For the price, they shouldn't rush us. It should be savored and not rushed and served hot and able to enjoy the experience. We were done in less than an hour and on our way. If there is a next time, (not likely), we'll prompt our server to not rush us."

  • "We ate here while attending a conference. Golden Steer lived up to the reviews of old school steakhouse--ribeye very tasty, well-seasoned. Sides were okay. Other reviews commented on bad service but we found service to be very good. Definitely recommend eating here both for the food and experience."

  • "Beef was great, superior quality! Fun, old time restaurant with servers who have been there from the start. Side dishes just OK. We felt like they were warmed up. Famous cheese bread, no big deal. Everything is very expensive. These days, there are steak houses in all of the Vegas hotels who offer all of the new culinary delights with their meals. Not that necessary to go here as a tourist. We wouldn't go here again but only for this reason. It was a fun experience and we had a nice time there with friends."

  • "I very much enjoyed my dining experience at Golden Steer. The ambiance was everything you would expect from a classic Las Vegas restaurant where the "Rat Pack once dined. The service was outstanding I never wanted for anything and the food was delicious. I will most definitely dine here again the next time I'm in Las Vegas"

  • "We discovered the Golden Steer when we Honeymooned in Vegas 2 years ago and vowed we would return. Everything was wonderful. The staff, the food, the ambiance-- everything was still perfect. It's become a tradition now for my husband and I to revisit The Golden Steer every time we're in Vegas."

  • "The restaurant appears to be getting by on its past -- I was not impressed with the service and the food was mediocre. The only reason I would recommend anyone dining here is for the old fashioned historic Las Vegas steakhouse setting....otherwise, it is a 'one time visit' location from my perspective. My recommendation to other diners is to spend the $50 round trip taxi money from the Strip hotels on a more modern steakhouse."

  • "The Golden Steer got very high reviews when I checked it out. This dinner was for my husband's birthday. The menu choices were excellent. Las Vegas is not an inexpensive place to eat and the prices were on par with other restaurants. This restaurant has a feel of the Rat Pack Las Vegas; subtle lighting, red leather booths. Our meals were outstanding in quality, meat was fork tender and sides delicious. The house merlot was very smooth. Be aware that everything is a la carte, so do not be surprised by your bill. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. My only criticism would be that they could have done our one shared dessert "on the house" because of the birthday. But, oh, well. . . . An otherwise great dining experience."

  • "We often dine at the Golden Steer when in Vegas and it never disappoints. The Ceasar salad to rib eye to the finale all was once again well done. No one does a better rib eye and we raise beef cattle... Service is always attentive and correct while being friendly. Love the history too."

  • "A friend and Vegas native had one answer when I asked her for a steakhouse recommendation for the first night of a brothers/bachelor party weekend in LV: The Golden Steer. It was everything I could have hoped for from the decor right down to the theatrically indifferent staff. Joe the bartender is one of the greatest old school barmen ever. Great steak, world-class shrimp cocktail, giant martinis. One of the best "non-Vegasy" meals I've ever had in LV. A "must see" for those who appreciate a classic steakhouse without any of the modern Las Vegas sparkle. God bless the owners for keeping this place exactly how it is."

  • "Such an enjoyable experience at Golden Steer! From the moment I walked in and greeted so warmly by the hostess, to the incredible attention while dining, this is the way customer service should be! The food was wonderful :-)"

  • "I wanted to visit some great landmarks in Las Vegas and the Golden Steer was one of them. A great throw back to the old days. The decor was great with big cozy booth seating and the service and staff were the best part. Our waiter was the best we had in Las Vegas. We really enjoyed our visit. Our steaks were great and cooked just right."

  • "Not very flexible . Needed to add two people to reservation. Was told not possible four hours in advance. Plenty of empty tables all the time we were there. Business dinners , sometimes the customers change And want to add people . Puts the host in a bad Position."

  • "I have lived in Las Vegas for 13 years. Just so happens I've been wanting to go to this restaurant for that long. On March 5, it was our anniversary, and I thought, what a better way to celebrate it than at the restaurant I have always wanted to go to, and have heard good things about. We walked in and were greeted by the bar tender. The hostess was not up front, but soon came. She seated us and was very pleasant and friendly. There service assistant was great. The waiter was rude, abrupt, unaccomodating and made us feel extremely unwelcome. The restaurant never called me or responded to an email I sent. Why would you want to go somewhere where your not welcomed. Capital Grille took care of us and it was wonderful!"

  • "This place was a treasure to find, you could almost hear the history of the famous people who once frequented the place, very nostalgic! The food was fabulous, I had Cesar salad made at the table and a 18 oz prime rib and it was cooked perfectly, the oysters were great, the wife had crab cakes and a Fillet, also very good. Great wine and Scotch list. I would recommend this place to any one looking for that old Las Vegas feel. Very, Very Nice!!"

  • "This restaurant is incredible. The ambiance is true to the time of the Rat Pack. The dining area I asked for was private and quite (our own room). The food was fantastic and the chef prepared the steak(s) correctly. Rare was rare, and Medium was Medium. The staff was friendly, quick, and very professional."

  • "My understanding is that this restaurant changed hands a couple of years back. We went hoping for some quality old Vegas vibe and classic steaks. That may have been the case up in the 00's . . . I just wasn't feeling it. Steaks were not a stand out and the service was phoned in. So wanted to love this place. I'm headed back to Capital Grill, even if the Rat Pack frequented this place."

  • "A kick to spend an evening where the stars of days gone by ate and drank. The staff does a great job of making you welcome and describing the good old days. The steaks are fine. A veal marsala dish was tasty but not remotely like the traditional presentation. Prices are typical of a Las Vegas steakhouse. We took out-of-town guests and they were very pleased. We keep this on our list of special evenings out."

  • "Everything you try will be made from something out of a box - Sauces, desserts, etc. - Nothing tasted exceptional and the best parts of the meal were the cocktails and twice baked potato. The caesar salad was supposed to be made completely from scratch tableside - I was presented with something from back of the house by a food runner - tasted like a bottled dressing - consistency of a vinaigrette. Lettuce was still wet from rinsing. Desserts were a no bake Philadelphia cheesecake and a chocolate layer cake probably from a food distributor - iced with canned frosting. For a similar price point try Mon Ami Gabi @ The Paris - Food is amazing! I would write a more extensive review but the space is so limiting here."

  • "The service was stellar and they even recognized our Anniversary with a slice of cheesecake and an after dinner drink 'on the house'. Nice touch, however the steak was VERY average and for $40 I expect the best ever. In fact' they charged me $52, so the cheesecake and drink weren't really 'on the house'. We almost didn't get the table-side prepared Caesar, but SO glad we did. With that, the great dessert and a stellar staff, I can give it stars here. Otherwise it could have been a 1, especially sine we dropped $200 for average food. I cook my next steak at home next time."

  • "Everything you're looking for in a old time steakhouse. Good Ambiance, Great food, great sides. We unfortunately had terrible service, with is unfortunate because that's what they are known for. Our waiter was aloof, the times he was around. Waited and Waited numerous times for service and when we did get his attention we were treated like a distraction to some other business he had. At one point we didn't see him for 15 minutes, only to see him come in from the outside then disappear for another 5 minutes before he brought us the check. It's sad because every other table seemed to get exceptional service from their waiter."

  • "We come to Las Vegas once a year and went to Golden Steer for the first time last year and we loved it! Booked it again this year and it was not the same - the service was a bit slower and the food was not as delicious as we remembered it to be. I had a salmon dish which was very salty and the fish was not tasty - maybe I should of had steak because it is a steak house."

  • "A wonderful stop for a change of pace in Las Vegas. This steakhouse embodies the heart and soul of old time Vegas. It is everything you're looking for when you want a perfect steak and a glass of red wine in a swanky black leather booth. You'll feel like an Italian mob boss of days gone by being attentively served by these gentlemen in black suits. Make sure to get the caesar salad; crafted table side, you won't forget it."

  • "The Foodnetwork did a piece on this restaurant so we thought it would be an interesting place to have a steak. This is an old school, red leather booth, paneling on the walls-type of steakhouse. The service was excellent. Very simple menu, as you would expect from a place like this. We sat in Dean Martin's old booth, next to Sinatra's. Apps were good. Here's the highlight,...they make Ceasar Salad at your table by hand--the old school way,...real egg, anchovie paste, a seasoning with a splash of hotsauce (gives it an subtle taste,--but it's there). The lettuce was crisp and plates were cold. Best ceasar salad we've ever had! Oh and the steaks were good! An after dinner single malt scotch and we were good for the night!"

  • "A true hidden gem in Las Vegas. Great old school Las Vegas Steakhouse. We had chosen a booth which was in a have moon shape by the back wall. My girlfriend and I both had the Filet Mignon which was definitely one of the best that I have ever had. For desert, definitely get the Bananas Foster which is also made at your table. We felt very welcome and comfortable from the time we entered the door until we unfortunately had to leave. The manager and wait staff here are absolutely awesome. Very friendly, accommodating and give just the right amount of attention to your needs without being intrusive. It's a great relaxing get away from all of the hustle and bustle of the overrated dining places on the strip."

  • "Unassuming ambiance with sturdy steakhouse classics, The Golden Steer, though a bit pricey ( However, within line with most other good places in 'The Strip'), offers a memorable experience with its connection to the Rat Pack days and general 1950's and 60's nostalgia."

  • "Chose this specifically to not eat at another overproduced reality tv type place. Food outstanding, service is my fave: all tuxedoed professional waiters, friendly but quiet. Every dish spot on, drinks perfect, booths and deco adorable. If we lived here, we would come her a few times a month and for all birthdays and anniversaries"
