The steaks were very good but not GREAT. The sides including the potaoes, mushrooms, and asparagus were great. The esscargo which is suppossed to be signiture were not good at all, I make much better at home. The martinis were very good and reasonably priced for a supposably fancy restaruant. We paid $8.99 for prime rib at the Golden Gate and were almost as satisfied.

Barman was a jerk to me and my group of twelve. Food was iffy at best. they claimed a signature lobster bisque that was more like flour gravy, half the group got steaks cooked to order the other half cooked the way the chef wanted them done. The server was a pro which softened the experience a bit, I'm sure this joint was worth it but today like much of the strip it needs to be bulldozed and restarted

  • Whenever I am in Las Vegas
    OpenTable Diner Since 2001
    Dined on 10/8/2009
Whenever I am in Las Vegas I dine at the Golden Steer. I have been going there for about 10 years, though the restaurant is a classic, going back much longer than that. I love their aged steaks, especially the bone-in rib-eye. The atmosphere is old school swank. So few restaurants like this are left in Las Vegas anymore. Highly recommended if you miss the old Vegas (or want to experience what Vegas was like before the 1980s), or if you just want to enjoy an excellent meal served with gracious old-fashioned service.

The food was awesome. We had a party of seven (two adults and five children). They are very child-friendly and are willing to split orders for the kids and make some things that are not on the menu. Our waiter was the best I have seen in a very long time (Henry).

Food was very good, atmosphere is old school vegas and great, service top notch and very friendly. However, price is too high for location, same price as strip steakhouses. Add $30 from mid strip for cab fare. Probably won't return due to high cost, would just hit a strip steak house that we could walk to.

From the time we walked through the door, we where very pleased. The staff was remarkable, always there to assist with anything. The food was amazing. My husband and I shared the 24oz. prime rib, which was so very tender. We also ordered the carrot cake and creme burlee, both where great. Over all we would recommand this to anyone and would diffently visit again.

I discovered the Golden Steer 6 years ago and I go there EVERY time I'm in Las Vegas. The food is superb and the service is fabulous. Great place for a quiet, romantic meal. A little disappointed there weren't anchovies in the tableside Caesar and the house garlic bread, at two slices per serving, is not worth the price. But the food is excellent, portions are large and service is professional and not hurried.

Ambiance is great. You don't find many old-school restaurants like that in Vegas anymore. It's very dark and romantic as you dine with the oldies playing in the background. However the food is extremely over-priced and very bland. We ordered the Toasted Ravioli with Marinara Sauce $10, which was really good. For entree, we ordered Chateaubriand Bouquetiere for two with Hollandaise and Béarnaise Sauce, it's $55 per person and added on Whipped Potatoes $8 on the side. The Chateaubriand Bouquetiere, which is a roasted beef tenderloin, was just ok. The sauces were very bland. The Chateaubriand Bouquetiere also came with some steams vegetables on the side (carrots, broccoli and asparagus), which were just plain steams with no seasoning.

A great restaurant with great character to it. Has a feel of a great old Las Vegas restaurant which is hard to find today. The food was great and the tableside Caesar was especially good. The service was very good and the staff was attentive. The steaks we order were good but the presentation is not there. Overall a good dinner but at some of the prices on the food it felt like eating at a strip restaurant. The atmosphere went a long way.

We loved it. A friend who lives in Vegas suggested it, else we never would have known it was there. Don't let the outside appearance fool you; it look's like a dive from the outside, but once you step inside, it's what I imagine it probably looked like back in the late 50's and early 60's. Deeply padded red leather banquette's, wait staff in tuxedo's, etc. The food and atmospehere was great. The staff really know their Vegas history and will tell you all about it if you ask. Portions are generous and the cocktails were pleasingly strong. It's a short cab ride from the strip but weill worth the time. We'll definitely go again.

  • Great steakhouse in Las Vegas.
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 5/18/2009
Great steakhouse in Las Vegas. In a strip mall and looks almost scary on the outside, this is old Vegas at its best-old school decor. Great steaks! perfect twice baked potatoes. Fernando (Owner?!?) is a card, his routine is the same, but he delivers it with such gusto, it isn't annoying! Wine list is okay, but pedestrian. They were out of my first choice. Bring your own good bottle and pay the corkage. They rave about the prime rib, but the bone-in ribeye was so much better! Both steaks were perfectly cooked to order. Will definitely go back when my cholesterol comes back down after last night's meal! Prices are reasonable and steaks are as good, if not better, than the higher priced steakhouses in the strip casinos
