A word from Golden Pheasant Inn
"Exquisite" is the word to describe this experience - John V.R. Bull, Philadelphia Inquirer.
Perfect for a relaxed country meal, a weekend getaway or a glass of wine by the fire or on our outdoor terrace, it is hard to imagine a more picturesque setting than the Golden Pheasant Inn. The menu offers fresh, seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, The wine list offers over 160 selections by the bottle and 20 by the glass. Located between the Delaware River and Canal in a historic fieldstone inn, we are one hour and fifteen minutes from New York City or Philadelphia, and only 20 minutes north of New Hope, PA. The inn has been family owned and operated for over 27 years. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing the beauty of Bucks County!Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We live nearby but have not dined here since it was renovated. They did an amazing job renovating this property! It is a really beautiful place. We were happy to see a lively bar and restaurant atmosphere as well. Many of the historic inns in our area have wonderful food, but the atmosphere tends to be sedate. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals. The oysters were amazing! Totally changed my mind about West Coast oysters. The menu was fairly diverse, and everything we had was great. The service was friendly and attentive. No complaints. We really enjoyed our visit and we will return soon. Can't wait til the weather improves and we can enjoy the patio."

  • "Made the Open Table reservations same day and was an informal dinner ordered from their Tavern Menu. Again, exceptional burgers but the specialty fries were mouthwatering, and were more than a generous portion. Have always had a consistent and memorable meal at this fine establishment."

  • "The restaurant had a quiet ambience that made for a relaxing atmosphere. The food was delicious and trendy."

  • "Charming and cordial staff welcomed us to this venerable old inn. What will bring us back though, was a superbly cooked dinner. Add a diverse but affordably priced wine list and you can have a memorable anniversary dinner!"

  • "We had a lovely afternoon this past Sunday! We enjoyed the option of Brunch or the Tavern Menu, both of which were very good! The ambiance was great, a bright sunny atrium with views on both sides overlooking the Delaware River and Canal. We sat in front of a stone fireplace and enjoyed a leisurely meal; the staff was accommodating and never rushed us. This is not our first time here, nor will it be our last!"

  • "I have to share what an amazing birthday dinner I had at the Golden Pheasant Inn! The restaurant looks amazing after the renovation last year. Dinner overlooking the canal with the fireplace crackling was the perfect romantic evening. The food is impeccable and delicious. We started with the cheese plate which was accompanied by artisan bread points, Tassot Apiaries, raw honey and honeycomb, salted almonds and a raspberry puree. The poached Wester Ross Scottish salmon was cooked perfectly. The duck breast was tender and the apricot, ginger rum reduction was one of the best sauces I have ever eaten! The wine list has a good selection as well. Looking forward to the warmer weather and trying brunch on the outdoor terrace."

  • "This was a lovely evening; beautiful room, pretty view, good service and tasty food. For a Pennsylvanian restaurant, it had a very interesting and extensive wine selection with many reasonably priced bottles for budget conscious customers. So often this is a real sore spot for us and why we usually prefer to go to BYOB restaurants. Their wine list was a very pleasant surprise. The menu is not overly creative, but solid American fare using local food sources where possible."

  • "Had another lovely experience at the Inn once again. My wife and I love it here. From the fresh flowers on the table, wonderful wine list, extraordinary helpful and friendly staff to the amazing food. Not a dainty serving but a plateful of exciting flavors. Do try the duck confit if offered. Only thing better is the Charcuterie plate. Mmmmm Only of our favorite places and it hasn't disappointed yet."

  • "Lovely surroundings along the Delaware River. The staff was unobtrusive and nice. The food was interesting in its creativity but almost seemed as if they were trying too hard."

  • "The quality of the food was outstanding. I had the best butternut squash soup ever and the red snapper I ordered was fantastic. The wait staff was very professional and friendly. They enjoyed answering our questions about the food and restaurant. Parking was a little hairy as the restaurant sits on a narrow strip of land between river road and the canal. When you depart, you must back out right onto to river road. That aside, the historic ambiance and high quality food make it a must do for that special occasion."

  • "Very impressed that the food is all locally-resourced. As a vegetarian and animal lover, I appreciated learning that the meats are all locally raised using only humane methods. We try to only eat organic and non-GMO foods and are thrilled to have such a thoughtful, beautiful and delicious restaurant just down the river from us!"

  • "It has been years since we last visited the Golden Pheasant (it is 45 min. from where we live) and it even get better with age. The staff were fantastic, the selections and execution flawless, and the pacing of our selections, perfect. It was a great evening, well worth the drive."

  • "We've been wanting to get to this place for some time, and finally went on a quiet Sunday night. They were not very crowded (and I have to wonder about parking if it is, as there don't seem to be very many spots for the size of the restaurant). We sat in the Solarium room, which has nice views of the canal on one side and the river on the other. A nice fire in the fireplace was going, and wasn't overly warm. Enjoyed the cheese plate appetizer, and had an excellent duck breast for dinner. My wife enjoyed a pork chop. Service was prompt and attentive. We'll be back!"

  • "Four of us met to try out the New Hope Restaurant Week specials. Lovely experience overall - service was professional, atmosphere was elegant but comfortable, recent renovations were top notch. Peach Bellinis were a nice treat. Appetizers were excellent - onion tarte, walnut salad, squash soup. 3 of us tried the red snapper - mine was overcooked, but the others seemed to enjoy theirs. (this is the only reason I did not give 5 stars for food) The pork chop was nicely done. Dessert course was great - I am gluten free so I had a bowl of fresh fruit and cream. Would definitely recommend Golden Pheasant to others for a special evening. I hear there is a brunch that would be fun to try, too!"

  • "Had a great time at the Golden Pheasant Inn for restaurant week. Oysters were fresh and delicious. Entrees were satisfying. Desserts and coffee were good as well. Will definitely go back. Also would love to try the tavern menu next time."

  • "ordered the duck confit appertizer - delicious! Crab cakes were good too but a litle on the small side. Lamb shank entree outstanding. Duck breast entree good but not great. Need some work on desserts, especially for the price."

  • "Beautiful spot, nicely refurbished. Starters (oysters, onion tart) were excellent. Main ciurse of duck ove wild rice was out of balance. Needed more duck meat, wild rice was bland. Dessert (chocolate cake) was nicely presented, but unspectacular in taste."

  • "We were there for our wedding anniversary, and we sat right by the fireplace. Everything was great. We can't wait to go back. They use local suppliers when possible to have the local tatse. Every course was great."

  • "Always a welcoming place, the recent renovation has made this long standing neighborhood institution into a gem, although the kitchen has room to be more adventersome and retreats from trying new things. The menu is virtually identical to when it reopened a year ago. The ambiance is beautiful, especially near the fireplaces. Staff will bend over backwards to make sure you are well cared for."

  • "Have driven by many times and always wanted to try it. Finally did for a special occasion. Atmosphere was perfect. Fireplace in the background, lots of space between tables and lovely country charm and decor. Wait staff was excellent and the food was superb!! Wild mushroom soup was amazing as were the braised short ribs. My wife said her stuffed ravioli were even better than what we had just last fall in Italy. Highly recommended."

  • "This was our first time dining at Golden Pheasant, and the only disappointment was that we didn't visit sooner. We've been passing this little Delaware Riverside gem for years and finally made the reservation (Thursday evenings don't seem to be too crowded - but I've been shut out before trying to get in on a Friday/Saturday night at the last minute). The service was excellent, and the education about their quality foods, local sourcing, approach to sustainability and non-GMO menu was very refreshing. We enjoyed their cheese selection, the wild mushroom soup was delicious, as was the main course - I had the lamb shank and my wife had the scallops with celeriac mouse - both were perfectly prepared. I would highly recommend dining here."

  • "This was 5th or 6th trip to GPI since its re-opening and I intend to keep going. Service is always very attentive although getting that first drink to the table seems a bit slow. Food is very good, and the atmosphere is quite nice. Look forward to a return trip. Love oysters so always nice to see those on a menu. Pheasant was good but lamb shank dinner even better. Orange/chocolate zabaglione dessert was outstanding."

  • "My husband and I dined here with friends on Saturday, February 22nd. Our group ordered the Mako, Lamb and Pheasant. The Lamb was a hefty portion of meat, which the gentleman loved and said was quite savory. The pheasant was served on a bone and hard to use utensils, however, the gentleman still enjoyed the flavoring and tastefulness of this entrée. The Mako was cooked to perfection and tastefully seasoned and delicious. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Golden Pheasant Inn. We would definitely return when in the area."

  • "The food was excellent! It does range from $20-$40 depending on what you get, but the quality is what you pay for. The ambiance was incredible, low light, candle lit, fireplace; a great place for my girlfriend and I. They had good beers on tap with some local foods provided as well. I definitely recommend this place!"

  • "Took a trip along the Delaware to find this gem of a romantic spot for a delightful brunch on the Sunday after St. Valentine's Day. The early service was a bit too rushed but they soon adjusted and realized that we wanted to savor the meal and the day. Food was great and prepared to our requests. Both of the soups we ordered were out of this world."

  • "I took my fiance for dinner for Valentines Day. Food was delicious and ambience was romantic. We drove about an hour as we heard and read great reviews and wanted to try something new. We were not disappointed. We will be going back again soon. Service was great - staff is very warm and friendly. Onion soup is a must!"

  • "One of the best meals in a long time. Not cheap, but if you value quality over quantity, this is a must go-to place. Excellent wine list and an outstanding appetizer and main menu. Strongly recommend the seafood selections as well as the lamb."

  • "Had dinner here on Valentines Day. The staff was very friendly, the service excellent and the food was very well prepared. The dining rooms nicely lit - not too bright, not too dark, with large fireplaces on either side. It was a very enjoyable meal. Recommended, as long as 'value' isn't part of your dining out equation. 2 courses, 1 drink each, a shared dessert and coffee was ~ $150. Fine for a special occasion - but you're paying more for the service and ambience. If you value good food above the rest? I've had better meals for less."

  • "This was our first visit, Valentine's night and it started off great. There was valet parking and two young boys at the door who greeted us and took our coats...such a nice touch. The restaurant was warm and inviting with rose petals on the table and the fireplaces were lit. We were set for a wonderful evening and a romantic dinner until our server arrived. She wasn't welcoming, friendly, accommodating and attentive. There was no reason for this whatsoever as we ate early and the restaurant was neither full nor was it busy. This changed the mood entirely and we left very disappointed. It was truly unfortunate as we believe this could have been and should have been the romantic evening my wife and I were hoping for."

  • "We had read about this restaurant, driven past it, and heard about it from others. We finally were able to go and it exceeded our expectations. The food and wine were great from start to finish. In addition, the restaurant had a nice ambiance, the staff was very friendly, and the service was excellent. This restaurant is a gem and we can't wait to go back."

  • "Overall, this was a lovely dining experience. The service was excellent, the fire felt wonderful, and the wine list is endless! However, I chose the pheasant for my entree, which turned out to be a mistake. It was very dry and difficult to cut. I have eaten pheasant many times in my life, and know that it needs work to turn out tender and moist. The ravioli were excellent,as were the grilled romaine salad and apple brown betty for dessert. . Since the menu is not extensive, perhaps a substitute should be made for the pheasant."
