Goin' Coastal - Virginia HighlandThe food was delicious asThe food was delicious as always! A great place to go in Virginia highlands.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMALWAYS A UNIQUE EXPERIENCELove the chalk boards. Whenever I visit Goin' Coastal, which isn't nearly enough, I am reminded how fresh their seafood is when I see certain items on the chalk boards have been marked out. it tells me unequivocally that the fish was caught fresh, in limited supply, and prepared soon after arriving. I'm never disappointed when my first choice is gone, because it provides me an incentive to try something new; perhaps something I would have not selected otherwise. This evening it was the Wreckfish, prepared in the parmesan manner, which was delicious and full of flavor. Will I be back? Many more times--promise.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome serviceJoey ... One of the BEST servers/bartenders I've encountered in Atlanta. It was as if he was welcoming us to his home. I'll be back - and I know I'll be in great hands with Joey. The food was very good - love the concept of sustainable fishing, and my halibut was really good.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMfresh and tastyI was looking a budget-friendly seafood restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by the variety of tasty and healthy options. I will definitely put this restaurant on the short list.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesomeI've been meaning to try this restaurant and I'm so glad we did. I had the lobster risotto and it was the best risotto ever. it was not too dry or soupy. My wife had the shrimp risotto and she loved it also. The seafood is so fresh and full of flavor.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome food!Met my daughters in ATL for a girls' weekend and I chose Goin' Coastal for our first night in and we were not disappointed! The hostess was ever so sweet and our server was informative and knowledgeable about what fish was available-we chose the fried pickles, lobster pot pie bites and flash fried avocado bites and then shared the stuffed chicken and blackened grouper. Everything was certainly delish, but I must say, quite salty for my taste...and I love salt!! Service was stellar and we definitely return!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place with two locations!Great place with two locations! Canton or Virginia highlands! Service, food, and drinks are fabulous5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for anniversary dinnerI chose Goin Coastal for our wedding anniversary dinner and couldn't be more pleased. They did everything to make sure it was a great night for us. Walking in everyone knew it was our anniversary and congratulated us. They even put flowers and a little sign on our table. The service here was great the whole night. We never felt rushed nor did we feel like they were bothering us too much. The food was delicious from the soft shell crab appetizer right down to the blackened fish and pimento grits. We will definitely be headed back soon.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMfood was very good. noisefood was very good. noise level way too loud, a/c toostrong5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMEXCELLENCE IN ALL RESPECTS, AGAIN!Goin' Coastal continues to build on its delicious sustainable cuisine, as well as attentive service and perhaps the best neighborhood atmosphere in Atlanta. You can allow yourself to be seduced by celebrity-chef establishments, or you can become one of owner-Chef Seth's regulars, and know what it really feels like to be appreciated and valued. Make a reservation, because this place has been discovered, and prepare yourself for a great evening.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Fresh Seafood! The food was wonderful and the service was great. Will go back.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMVirginia-Highland gemOur second visit to Goin' Coastal was as nice as the first! Great selections and preparation methods.......my only request would be to make the wines by the glass available as a bottle.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome DinnerWe brought friends who are new to ATL and Goin Coastal delivered with an incredible experience and meal.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was outstanding and serviceFood was outstanding and service was very good. The seafood was incredibly fresh and the cornbread was homey with a five star taste.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful place!I recently went to Goin' Coastal for a birthday dinner gathering, and everything was great! They had set flowers and a little placard o the table with my name on it along with "Happy Birthday!" I would definitely recommend this place to my friends. I've heard excellent things about Goin' Coastal, so I'm glad we decided to check it out for ourselves.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGoing to Goin Coastal again!Food was delish. Scallops were very tasty. The mashed potatoes done to perfection and the string beans had great flavor. Basil-limeade is a must. And not to mention the Lobster Pot Pie Fritters were superb!!!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic neighborhood Gem!Goin' Coastal is a fantastic restaurant with excellent sevice and delicious food. We are never disappointed and always leave with a feeling that we will go back. The restaruant is small, quaint and offers many excellent options...and not just seafood. They offer many alternatives to fish and have a large offering of gluten free products. The prices are very reasonable for the area and you can tell that the ownership has great pride in pleasing the customers!! Love this place!!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOur favorite neighborhood spotIf I could give 6 stars I would. Seth and the gang make you feel at home the moment you walk through the door. Known for their seafood, but they can rock a steak too (or pork or chicken). Sit at the bar with Joey (the best bartender in the city) to watch their amazing chefs in action.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat little spotWe had reservations for 7:30, but had to wait about 10 minutes. Initially we were bummed, but that passed quickly. The manager treated us to a glass of wine, the bartender, concerned we were drinking on empty stomachs, gave us some of their delicious cornbread, it was so good! Hubby had the scampi and I had the mussels. It was perfect. We are definitely regulars now!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Not GreatTried 2 shrimp dishes. Both were very good. A bit overpriced for the experience. No wine by the bottle--limited beer selection. A very competitive area (Virginia Highlands) with better nearby choices.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWould be nice if they hadWould be nice if they had free dessert for the birthday person. Waiter was o/s she gave us a history on the restaurant knew her menu and attentive. We stayed a long while after eatiing-no one rushed us out would have been nice if someone came over and asked if we wanted a glass of water...4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe seafood was divine andThe seafood was divine and the wine selection was excellent. Overall, a wonderful experience.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe keep coming back becauseWe keep coming back because of the food and great service. The folks there are friendly and remember us each time and hold a booth for us. When we made the reservation we asked that 2 dozen oysters be reserved for us and we did not even have to order them.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBEST SEAFOOD IN ATLANTA, PERIODOutstanding service and great, fresh seafood. Goin Coastal is becoming a cool Virginia Highland dining institution. Insider's Tip: Park in the lot at Highland Woodworking and tell the attendant you are going to Goin' Coastal, and park for free.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMYou will love it! I am going back! What a find! If you love good food and seafood...so great. I also heard that their steaks are to die for but, I am a seafood lover and I will pass on the steak every time. I love the location. Tons of bars around for a nice pre dinner cocktail or two and shopping as well. I had the lobster fritters...perfect app. Then I had the blackened swordfish with green beans and pimento cheese grits.....AMAZING! I loved how my green beans were not squeeky in the back of my teeth when I chewed...perfection and great great flavor. My husband had the shrimp and grits and he enjoyed it. My cocktail was divine the coastal cocktail. Next door is the gelato place get the choco and pistachio in a flower cone...yummy! The cone is so light and flaky.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't Wait To Go Back!My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the food at Goin' Coastal. It was our first time eating at this restaurant and certainily won't be our last. I like seafood but LOVE chicken so I went with the stuffed chicken breast and OH MY it was delicious!! One minor thing - I didn't care for the corn bread, but my husband liked it. I'm a northerner and prefer mine a little sweeter that's all. Other than that I've been thinking about when to go back and how cozy the ambiance felt. :)4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMfavorite seafood place infavorite seafood place in Atlanta, I come here on a regular basis. great food, good sized portions, great service, and without being ridiculously overpriced and pretentious.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMy evening at Goin CoastalMy evening at Goin Coastal was wonderful. The restaurant was recommended by a coworker and this was my dining experience there to celebrate my cousin's birthday. "Everything" from the food to the service and the ambiance was EXCELLENT! We attended another event later that evening and had recommended the restaurant to three other people before the end of the night. "You Go Goin Coastal" you have it "Goin On":)4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMshrimp 'n grits . . .good flavors!Though close by, I found this on my Open Table App and went for the 1,000 point table....
Shrimp 'N Grits were good, two in our party had that entree.
Nice atmosphere and flavors...
Apps were very good though small
Will make a visit back for sure!4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMonday Night Memories :)Chris is an outstanding server; he makes the experience feel as though it's a high priced, sophisticated dining experience rather than an amazingly cozy neighborhood gem. From the table cornbread plate (melt in your mouth), to the appetizers of mussels and oysters rockefeller, and then the family-sized salad plate (super fresh and gorgeous) to our entrees of the daily filet ($26) served with redskin mashed and green beans in a demi glaze reduction, and the Monday night Maine lobster special ($20), to the $5 limeaids, the night is always a huge hit and the food can't be beat. It's an outstanding time every chance we go. Though I believe the service makes it, the food is also not to be missed.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFood selection, freshnessFood selection, freshness and preparation were all excellent! Service was timely and personal. When I'm in the mood for fresh seafood I know exactly where to go!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently a good mealWe have visited Goin' Costal several times and we are never disappointed. The seafood is fresh and delicious. Service is also good.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were treated like royaltyWe were treated like royalty on our anniversary. The quality of the food and the service made this a great choice.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love going coastal. FoodWe love going coastal. Food is always outstanding and it has a great neighborhood vibe. Service has always been exceptional as well, very professional. Very family friendly, ask for a booth if available with kids. The only thing missing is draft beer - it's only bottles
5 stars- one of our favorite places for dinner in the neighborhood3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMANOTHER GREAT EXPERIENCEI love this place. On Saturday, I came a little on the late side to avoid the crowds, but was still glad I made a reservation. We were seated immediately, and I had fresh halibut served along with a generous portion of salad on the same plate. It totally worked, and was a scrumptious blend of flavors. They now have a desert display, but don't go searching for it unless you want to be tempted. The cherry pie was not to be missed.
All in all, a very cool vibe, lots of regulars bantering at the bar, and an owner/chef who regularly patrols the dining room floor seeking comments and feedback from his patrons. Goin' Coastal is a refreshing departure from the stuffy chef-driven atmosphere of other establishments, and I can't wait to retur3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMBest sea food we have hadBest sea food we have had in a long time. They use only sustainable suppplies which means no farm raised, gill net etc. What we ate was swimming 48 hours earlier. Portions were nice sized and every entree was prepared expertly. Wil be back many more times.
the only challenge is parking. It is in a residential neighborhood along with several other places and they have a few reserved places in a lot across the street, but more than likely you will just have to drive around a while.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways very good service andAlways very good service and food.
Will definitely return.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBest seafood in town!Wed night oysters $5/dz...what a deal! They were fresh and perfectly served. Fried catfish always good. Great neighborhood spot in the V/H area. Dining room is small but comfortable; street parking can be difficult BUT worth it!3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI love the concept of thisI love the concept of this restaurant, i.e., sustainable seafood. Everything we tried was great and the portions were good sized but not over-the-top big. The fried avocado appetizer and the homemade pecan pie were special treats! Try them!!3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVE THIS PLACE! FreshestLOVE THIS PLACE! Freshest seafood outside of Louisiana!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. I had the TileGreat food. I had the Tile Fish in Miso prep and it was wonderful. The fried pickles and mussels for apps were great too.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMBest ever!!The food was absolutely fabulous, and the service was great! It is a small restaurant, so we were quite close to our neighbors. As a matter of fact, we ended up striking a conversation with our neighbors on both sides. My husband is quite the foodie, and after years, we finally found a restaurant that has fabulous crab cakes! The entree was excellent! Our neighbors also enjoyed their food :-). We even took dessert home: chocolate mousse and key lime pie - so smooth, creamy, just right!!! I have no regrets and can't wait to go back.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMLove It!The food was excellent as always and Joey's service was the best!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
