We decided to finally try Goin' Coastal for Highlands Restaurant Week, and we were not disappointed. The high quality of the food and great service made us want to return again! Our glasses of wine were outstanding. My husband and I both ate the creamy rich New England clam chowder as our first course. My ahi tuna poke salad was my only disappointment, as the chunks of ahi tuna were tiny -- I wished I'd tried the lobster fritters with coconut cream sauce instead. Our entrees of baked fish with a wonderfully delicious tomato sauce with vegetables were filling, so we brought half of these entrees home with us.

I have been a big fan of dinner. I decided to check out their brunch. From the moment I spoke to the hostess Nicole that set the tone for my experience. My waiter Daniel was the best. His knowledge and attentiveness made me feel as if I was his only customer, dispite that he never stopped moving. The lobster Benedict was unlike anything I have ever had before. I can't wait until the next time.

I love Goin' Coastal. It's one of those places where I walk in, they remember me, and I feel like family. Their brunch is fun, banana bread is moist, coffee is strong, and I love their hang over special. They just know how to love and serve our family of 2.5.

It was restaurant week. I would have thought they would have served at least some if their best dishes. I had clam chowder and lobster Mac and cheese. The chowder was ok, and the lobster was over cooked and tough. I wouldn't go back.

I had a friend in town and was looking for somewhere good to go. This place had decent reviews so we booked for a group of 6. We called as we were running a smidge late and they said they were too. We were trying to shift the reservation back a half hour. The hostess NEVER came back on the phone, so we rushed there to make sure we didn't lose our table. Service was slow, ambiance pretty poor, felt like a banquet hall. For being busy and such slow service there were lots of empty tables. Food was good, but not sure it's worth the price. Probably won't go back.

Goin' Coastal is definitely a hidden treasure in Virginia Highlands with great food and friendly people. My girlfriend and I visited for her birthday dinner. The appetizers were hot and made quickly. The entrees were excellent quality, nicely cooked, and tasted great. Try the Lobster Mac! I'll definitely revisit.

Have lived close to Goin' Coastal for 6 months and finally made if for dinner. It is a great spot. The bar was full and it created a nice scene. The food was outstanding. Although a seafood place, my dinner companion had the steak and loved it. I had the seafood bowl. The cornbread is worth coming for alone and the hush puppies were great. Look for their nightly specials, as on certain nights they have 1/2 price glasses of wine and 1/2 price certain entrees. The wine list wasn't great and we didn't love the bottle we went with, but that was our decision.

If you're in the Atlanta area and you don't go to this restaurant you're making a big mistake! I just got back from Atlanta where I had fantastic meals at Poor Calvin's, Canoe and Legal Seafoods. I strongly recommend those places but Goin' Coastal wins first prize. Sit at the bar and if you're lucky, Bash will take care of you. He starts out with a friendly handshake and look you in the eye introduction. He knows his food and drink. I had the truly outstanding red fish special paired with a superb Pinot Gris. The red fish was served on a bed of butternut squash and accompanied by brussel sprouts. This choice was made after his expert explanation of the other dishes on the menu. Erica, Bash's able co-worker, completes a top notch experience!

I like the concept of the restaurant. The manager was very nice and professional. I didn't care for the crab dip as I was expecting "chunks" of crab like the server described. Instead, I felt like there was finely shredded pieces of crab. The shrimp was really good. The catfish seemed to be overly battered and fried. The cornbread and butter was amazing! The thing that turned me off the most was that the server was not very attentive. She didn't come to the table much and when she did, she seemed rushed. However, the kindness of the hostess and the manager is worth going back and telling others. The ambiance is also great as the view from the big open window keeps you connected to the happenings of the Highlands.

Best part was probably our waitress. Worse part was probably the hostess who seemed like she had an attitude. But back to the waitress -- the part that impressed us the most was when I was asked by my companion if I wanted to share a salad, and the waitress noticed this interaction and brought out the salad in two separate bowls! LOVE that attention to detail, and wish others were that good!

I enjoyed another superb evening as a guest at Goin' Coastal. The owner himself stopped by our table to offer suggestions, and the depth of his knowledge about the menu was readily apparent. I don't know of many restaurants where the chef/owner engages his patrons in such a close dialogue, and it really makes for a special evening. The restaurant has an energy and vibe that I simply have never found duplicated in Atlanta. Its location in the heart of Virginia Highland made this a memorable evening, and I will return.

I visited Goin' Coastal and the food was just OK. I love the Virginia Highlands neighborhood of Atlanta and this is a local restaurant within this neighborhood. The food was just OK and not anything spectacular. I would give this restaurant another chance so that I could evaluate other items on the menu. We had the Low Boil Shrimp platter and the mussels, chowder and a salad. My sister whose birthday it was enjoyed her mussels and Low Boil Shrimp platter so that is all that mattered to me. I am a very experienced foodie that has eaten all over the World so my taste and expectations are a little different than most people. The wine list was nothing spectacular and we opted for Gelato next door instead of any of their desserts.

The seafood was so fresh, as soon as they ran out of one of the featured fish, you could watch as they crossed it off the daily menu board. The cornbread is amazing and has a slight kick with the jalapenos. The service was friendly, and the waitress was very helpful in suggesting the right wine and preparation for our fish dishes. This is a real neighborhood find - great seafood in a casual, fun atmosphere.

Went here for my birthday the other night. This place looks a lot better from the inside then it does from the outside. The average crowd is over 40 so we felt a little out of place . It gets really busy after 7pm so be sure to get reservations. Parking is tricky and is street parking only in the neighborhood . The fresh fish was so good and the veggies and potatoes that came on the side were out of this world and cooked perfect. My friend got the shrimp and grits which was not as good. The grits were a little under done so get the fresh fish when dining. The seafood dip as a app is very good as well!

We are from out of town but come to Atlanta often for business and pleasure. Goin Coastal is our favorite seafood restaurant in Atlanta and we are never disappointed. Their fish and oysters are always fresh and fixed perfectly. We have gotten quite a few south Georgians hooked on it as well! And the staff is just as good as the food! Always attentive and their #1 priority is making sure every customer is 100% happy!

A friend and I ate at Goin Coastal on Fri. Nite. I eat there frequently as the prices are good and the food is generally good too. We were seated within minutes of our arrival for our reservation. I happened to mention to another customer that my fish was a bit dry as when they asked me what I had ordered. The waitress was there but I did not think much about it. Within one minute the chef was at my table offering to make another order for me. He brought out some perfectly cooked fish in a few minutes. I was very pleased with this level of service from my neighborhood restaurant and will definitely be back. Also, the chef comped my entree which was more than gracious of him. They truly stand behind the quality of their food.

We had an 8:00 reservation on a Sunday night and the restaurant was only 1/3 full. The waitperson was very attentive and did a great job describing the dishes. The only disappointment we had was that 3 of the 8 (or 9) dishes on the chalkboard were not available. My wife loves grouper and I love red snapper and both were crossed off the board. We went with our second choices, which were very good. MAC is mac and cheese stuffed with large chunks of lobster. And my wife had the filet mignon topped with lump crab meat. Delicious! The restaurant was very loud for only being 1/3 full, so I would think it might be really tough to talk on a busy night. Overall, it was a good experience and we will go back. Maybe a 6:30 reservation next time...

Goin' Coastal is a great spot for groups! On the night our group of five dined, the side room was set for large groups. We had a round table and more comfortably enjoyed the experience and weren't crammed at a 4-top. Unique cocktails and great wine list. Definitely order oysters to start. Loved the jalapeno cornbread! Goin' Coastal serves a variety of fresh sustainable seafood with blackboard specials changing regularly. It's a solid alternative to the other restaurants at the Virginia & N. Highland intersection.

We went there with our elderly parents. The restaurant is very noisy so it was hard for them to have a conversation. We had oysters for starters. They were quit expensive and one type was good, but the other type was very poor. We think they were rinsed with tap water, there was no taste at all. The crab cake starter was poor as well, very bland. The main dishes were better. The crab legs were good as was the Andouille/gumbo dish. The sides with the fresh fish dishes were very good, but the fish itself was grilled too long and therefore dry. The wine was excellent, but no bottle under $40. The food didn't come all out at the same time, and we had to ask a couple of times for water, salt and pepper. Overall, we had much higher expectations.

Outstanding service! We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation time but the friendly hostess seated us anyway as a line started to form behind us. Our server Bettina was great and her recommendations were spot on! All the people who brought out our food were also very friendly, including the young lady who kept our water glasses topped-off. She offered to take a picture of us with my phone as we were celebrating a birthday. Atmosphere was lively and relaxed, a great date place or just a place to let your hair down. We ended up having a friendly conversation with the couple sitting at the table next to us. Attire was mostly dressy casual including shorts. Very tasty seafood, we had monkfish and wolfish which we've never had before.
