Diner Reviews
  • "Outstanding service! We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation time but the friendly hostess seated us anyway as a line started to form behind us. Our server Bettina was great and her recommendations were spot on! All the people who brought out our food were also very friendly, including the young lady who kept our water glasses topped-off. She offered to take a picture of us with my phone as we were celebrating a birthday. Atmosphere was lively and relaxed, a great date place or just a place to let your hair down. We ended up having a friendly conversation with the couple sitting at the table next to us. Attire was mostly dressy casual including shorts. Very tasty seafood, we had monkfish and wolfish which we've never had before."

  • "Love this neighborhood family-run seafood restaurant. Pretty consistently delicious. We go there whenever we get a date night! The mussels are amazing and the fried oysters are delish! They are very flexible with substitutions when you want to switch things around to your own liking, which is a major plus."

  • "My husband and I dined at Goin' Coastal and enjoyed the food and dining experience. We had a reservation so I approached the hostess stand and told the hostess I was there for an 8:15 reservation. She didn't ask my name and I told her I would wait for my husband (he was parking the car). He arrived 5 minutes later and I had to approach the hostess stand again to let her know we were there and on time. She commented that she didn't realize we were there. Not sure why. The food was excellent. We had the mussels as an appetizer. They did not disappointed. I would definitely dine here again."

  • "Had dinner here on a Saturday night. Resi was for 7 and didn't get seated until 7:20 as prior diners "lingered". Understandable as the food and service were great. Our appetizers included shared oysters and crab dip. Former were the perfect size and not to briny. Dip was delicious. Low country boil, scallops, grouper, and mahi mahi were all done to perfection. The only disappointment was the shared key lime pie which lacked that citrus bite. Also, one of the best pours anywhere on my double scotch!"

  • "This is a wonderful restaurant in vibrant Virginia Highlands. The seafood, fresh and always from sustainable sources, is fantastic. We had the crab cakes starter. Big lumps of crab meat with what tasted like a cornbread dressing binder that was only just enough to hold it together, the way it should be. Yum! We then both had the grouper prepared "double blackened." Their blackening preparation is fantastic; the Tabasco-based beurre blanc sauce is very flavorful. Great meal! The service from Trey was outstanding, great personality. We will be back and we recommend Goin' Coastal highly. PS. I've been to the Canton location of this restaurant and it is just as wonderful."

  • "Enjoyed our dinner at Goin' Coastal although our table was not ready at reservation time (had to wait about a half hour). Fortunately there was a bench available outside and the weather was good. Service was good and the king clip a la Coastal was excellent. Mussels were tiny, not plump at all, but what was there was very tasty."

  • "Love the food at this restaurant. Great selections, fresh seafood but they can sell out of some items quickly if you dine later at night. Noise level is very high so not great for intimate conversations -- reservations a must!"

  • "This was our first trip to Goin Coastal and I promise you it won't be our last! I can say this despite having a 7:30 reservation and not being seated until 8:20. It was a very busy Saturday night and people just wanted to sit and chat I guess so the tables weren't turning over quickly. However, the hostess was very apologetic and kept us informed every ten minutes. The manager comped us an appetizer and apologized several times for us having to wait. Our waiter was awesome and very informative of the menu. Everything about our meals was excellent! We loved every last bite! The portions were good and with the appetizer, neither of us were able to finish our food. After we ate, we walked to Blind Willies and ended the wonderful night!"

  • "I've been 3 or 4 times and I am never disappointed with the food and service. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed it, it was her first time going. We sat at the bar this time because they stated they were running behind on the reservations which wasn't a big thing to me. I'll be returning soon."

  • "This was our first time and we both loved it. The food was great and our waiter was extremely helpful to my friend who was a little uncomfortable with our new environment. The Lobster Mac is a must!!! Parking on a Friday night was a pain but we paid $6 for 2 cars to park at the hardware store (a good deal reg price $6 for each car)."

  • "While this is primarily an "environmentally conscious" seafood restaurant offering farm raised and non-endangered seafood selections, they also served a really good steak! Nicely prepared and delicious food, generous and delicious drinks, all served with friendly enthusiasm."

  • "My aunt and cousin flew in from NYC to celebrate my mom's 65th birthday. We couldn't have picked a better restaurant in all of Atlanta. They were especially accommodating to my toddler's demands, and she is notoriously hard to please. I can't wait to go back for date night with my husband!"

  • "Been here in the past and loved it, this time not as much. Before they used to offer a very nice salad along with the meal which they now charge for. Also the wine prices seem steep with the lowest Chardonnay bottle at $40. The fish was excellent (Amberjack) along with the mussles but overall with the loss of the complementary salad and expensive wine prices we will look for something with a little bit better value for money."

  • "A family you want to be with; not the dysfunctional kind. Their evolving menu enticed me to try the amberjack/pasta dish which was unique and flavorful. I make a habit do ordering the crab dip which is a nice way to begin the meal. I always enjoy the cool but not phoney vibe and the eclectic crowd--many of whom appear to be regulars. Open table recommended; this hot spot can get busy!"

  • "Very disappointing...the food was very salty and I specifically asked for NO salt. I called ahead as I was bringing a friend for a 50th birthday and wanted to order a dessert and even reminded the hostess when I walked in. the waiter asked if we wanted dessert and brought NOTHING!"

  • "We had a group of four adults celebrating a birthday. The fish and grits, low country boil dish and blackened salmon were all great meals. The seafood was fresh and well prepared. We ate every bite. I loved the cornbread that was served. The king clip wrapped in ham (a daily special) was very average. I would not recommend it personally. The wine list was small and rather expensive. I will definitely keep this restaurant in mind when I want a great seafood dinner."

  • "Food was absolutely delicious. I loved my lobster risotto. Our waiter was very knowlegeable of the menu, friendly and helpful and patient. Food was fresh and innovative. They were accommodating with helping to make sure that we had a place to seat our baby. Will be back!"

  • "We have been to Goin Coastal a number of times and love it. The seafood is always fresh, tasty, and prepared just for you. Service has always been good. Reservations are a must! We went on Friday evening and there has been a menu change since our last visit. Personally, I think the old menu was great! All in all it was a good evening, still had good service."

  • "We went for oyster wednesday. We were promptly seated at a great table. Oysters were fresh. Drinks were cold. Table service was good. The kitchen was a little slow on our entree but server kept us posted. Blackened amberjack cook well. Overall, solid dining experience. Will return."

  • "My husband and I chose this place as recommended by reviews and friends. I ordered the fried shrimp and they were decent but nothing to rave about. The hush puppies were way over cooked and could taste the burnt crust. Needless to say I only ate one but they were a good suez and had the potential to be very good. My husband ordered the steak oscar style. He ordered it medium and it came over cooked. This was our first night our after having a baby and was disappointed."

  • "My first visit was a great success. Our seats at the bar were reserved as requested, the oysters were fresh and tasty and service was perfect. Drinks were well mixed, mussels were well seasoned and all employees appeared to be happy serving the crowd. I'm headed back asap."

  • "Wine selection has suffered , there are very few choices by the glass. Menu item ( shrimp and grits)was not as described, andouille sausage was deleted from entree with no explanation. They seem to be going for an expansion of space instead of quality and the traffic does not justify it."

  • "Don't know what has happened, but last two occasions we went to Goin' Coastal the food left a lot to be desired. It will be a long time before we go back. So disappointed in the mussels. Use to be my favorite."

  • "We really enjoyed our first visit to Goin' Coastal about three months ago. Apparently things have changed now though. No longer are they offering family style salad or cornbread with the dinners. A small side salad was an additional $3 and no cornbread was ever offer to us. The broth in my wife's "Bowl" entree was nearly inedible with an awful taste. She muscled through it but I would've sent it back."

  • "My friends & I had 8:00 PM reservations & weren't able to be seated when we arrived because it was so crowded. It was a beautiful evening, so we didn't mind waiting outside for our table. The staff was extremely apologetic about the wait & even offered to buy us an appetizer! We didn't have to wait too long before we were seated. Our server was very down to earth & efficient. We ordered the crab dip for the table & were served cornbread as well - yummy! I had the halibut served Coastal style & the presentation was beautiful. The fish was cooked perfectly & very fresh. My friends & I had a wonderful experience & will be back!"

  • "It was Father's Day, my wife couldn't have picked a better place to take me. We were seated fairly quickly due to our reservation. We had plenty of great choices. The mimosa's were only a dollar, they should've had more than one bartender. All in all, we plan to go back sooner than later. We want to try the low country broil entree. You can only get that after 5pm we were told."

  • "We are dinner regulars and decided to try Sunday brunch on Father's Day. Besides a terrific standing menu, the specials were incredible: crab scramble or grilled salmon. Goin' Coastal has both healthy (low-cal) offerings and blowout comfort food (fried chicken and gravy on homemade biscuits). We go not only for the food but the staff who are amazing!"

  • "The menu looks and sounds delicious. The lobster risotto was flat, even adding salt, pepper and squeezing lemon resulting in a bland dish. The lobster was tough and chewy."
