Diner Reviews
  • "We have dined dozens of times at GC since it was one of our favorites. Our recent visit was disappointing. Our entrees were well prepared but the service was slow, inattentive and unfriendly. We had six different people serve our table. Our initial server did not return with an answer re: a dish. We did not see her again until the end of the eve. We waited 20 min for drinks and 45 min for entrees. The salad was unimpressive, we were not offered bread or silverware after the salad. The tables next to us received great service. We were perplexed by the service since the restaurant was less busy than in the past. On a positive note the bartender and manager were great!"

  • "My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here and I had reservations in advance for a nice table. The location was very busy when we arrived, but our table was waiting. Great food, great desserts and very good service. The noise level was a little energetic, but not so overpowering that you could not carry on a conversation. The food was the best seafood we have had since last summer on the Florida Gulf Coast. We will return."

  • "This was our second visit to "Goin' Coastal" and it was equally as good as the first. By chance we had the same waitress (Jessica) who remembered us and once again provided exceptional service. What separates this restaurant from others however is their food, and it was outstanding once again. We had the crab cake appetizer which was loaded with fresh sweet tasting crab; I had blackened swordfish over spicy grits for the main course while my wife enjoyed the halibut special which was cooked in a bag with fresh vegetables. The blueberry cheesecake was as good as I've ever tasted, and I am a cheesecake snob. The taste, quality and presentation of the food, especially the main courses is exquisite; we will return once again."

  • "We eat at Goin Coastal at least once a month. Their shrimp corn chowder is very good and hearty. Fried shrimp is better than shrimp in Fla. The trout is very good as well. When we have family come to visit, we take them to Goin Coastal. They love it also."

  • "Love Goin Coastal. It was my birthday dinner and my first choice for food anywhere off 575. The choice and perpetration of their sustainable fish is great, like nowhere else in the area. Rich and delicious entrees. Great beer, wine and drink selections. A really busy Friday night and service was still friendly, knowledgable, and quick. Desserts are homemade by the owners wife and amazing. It's the best for a fun celebration, date night or getting a drink. We will be back again and again."

  • "This was my second time going to Goin' Coastal's Canton location. The waitress sucked. She persuaded me to change my drink order and then it took 10 minutes to tell me that they were out of what i wanted and another 15 minutesto get me something else. Ordered 2 dozen oysters and a could that got sat 15 minutes after us ordered the same and they got their order 20 minutes before us. She also didnt bring us any crackers or cocktail sauce so we asked for it and had to wait another 15 minutes to get coctail sauce and she forgot the crackers. Our drinks went empty several times and took a while for her to notice. This place is not that big and not that busy. The girl complained that people were giving her a rough time. Honestly, she deserved it."

  • "Although the food was good, the service or more specifically, the kitchen was very slow. Our waitress did what she could, although we had to ask for silverware and plates. Took over an hour for the entree, we were there so long, we had reservations at 7:15 and ended up being the last table to leave the restaurant around 9:15. I'd hate to see how they'd do on a weekend. Feel confident the restaurant's sister location in Atlanta has better everything because in Atlanta if you're not on top of everything, your restaurant will closed."

  • "Not as good as usual, as they seemed to be out of a lot of things this night -- surprising, since we had an early reservation"

  • "I had the fish special, an excellently prepared black striped bass served over Carolina rice and corn, garnished with avocado and mango. We went with our standby appetizers (tuna poke and fried green tomatoes with lobster salad) and they were, as always, delicious. All paired well with a creamy chardonnay. The only complaint was that we were almost finished with our appetizers before the wine was served. But, overall, a very enjoyable dinner at one of our favorite restaurants."

  • "The food was excellent! Our sever Shannon was amazing! Being diabetic, the kitchen staff went out of their regular routine and made a special vegetable side (miso) for me and it was so delicious. The prices are reasonable . Everyone there was extremely friendly. At the end of our meal they brought out the birthday cake that my son had purchased, to surprise his father. We had a wonderful time, and I recommend this restaurant to every one ."

  • "The two Goin' Coastal locations are equally enjoyable, though this one is far closer to my home. Always fresh seafood, always perfectly prepared, always served by knowledgeable and friendly people. Very highly recommended."

  • "We recently went for the first time and was disappointed that the booth was uncomfortable. When we asked for a table, we were told that they were all reserved. Although there were empty tables when we got there, we could not have one. I guess you have to ask for a table when you reserve which I have never heard of before. The food was very good, the service a little slow and it was on the loud side. Overall, the food outweighed the issues except for the booth. We won't go again unless we can book a table!!"

  • "When in the Canton area, dinning at Goin' Costal is a must on my to-do list. The food is never a disappointment and the service attentive but not overly so. The menu is very adequate to give everyone a choice to fit their particular taste."

  • "We MUST go back to try the low-country boil. Our shrimp & grits was wonderful, the crab salad was very tasty, the service was superb."

  • "Our first time at this restaurant. Very good shrimp in both our dishes. Suggest you update the menu on your web site as the menu prices are now higher."

  • "One of our most favorite restaurants! Never a bad experience. Service is beyond excellent. And the dishes are always inventive and delicious. Seafood is as fresh as if we were on the coast and not in North Georgia. It is always a treat to eat here and you just can't beat $5/dozen raw oysters on Wednesday nights."

  • "Goin' Coastal has an atmosphere that is inviting, yet subtle. The service was better than might be expected, but is only surpassed by it's fantastic food offerings. The quality and choice of fresh seafood is unmatched by many comparable restaurants. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a unique dining experience."

  • "Excellent seafood choices and the lobster was prepared perfectly. Everyone at the table expressed that their meal was especially good. I made the reservation with my husband in mind for our anniversary. I do not usually like seafood yet I savored every bite and can not wait to return. Loved the wine recommendation and the pecan pie was perfect. Portion sizes were good. If I had to pick a down side it would be difficult, we did find it a bit noisy at times and had to ask the waitress to repeat a sound time. We are all looking forward to the next time."

  • "I would strongly recommend this restaurant to everyone I know. This was our first visit and we will definitely be back. Great atmosphere, romantic setting. Friendly service and some of the best seafood I have had in quite some time. Better than many that I have visited at the beach. Can't wait to go back and try something new."

  • "This place is always amazing. A local favorite. Had a reservation and still had to wait over 45 mins. This seems to be the norm. The food is fantastic and our server was amazing. Place was a little loud for me but we will be back."

  • "I was solicited by this restaurant via email that they had $5 dozen oysters. We made the reservation early so we could ensure getting oysters for 5:45. Hardly any customers dining when we arrived, yet when we ordered oysters, we were asked if we 'reserved' them. I said no because frankly that is crazy and also nothing was mentioned in email about the need to do so. The server informed us if we did not 'reserve' the oysters they were sold out and no longer available! This is a terrible way to do business and have never heard such a ridiculous thing, especially since it did not state this was needed in the email they sent to me! I spoke to the owners brother and he gave me the same stupid excuse and offered NOTHING. I will not return ever!"

  • "My wife and I dined here for our first anniversary. It was a Tuesday night and I made reservations because the place always seems busy. We showed up and the reservations were not needed because the resturant was not busy. The staff offered great advise on food. Everything was great from the mahi-mahi to the peanut butter pie for desert. We will definitely be back on our next special occasion dinner."

  • "I prefer to not enter the big city. We drove 45 miles and we will return for sure. This place has a lot to offer. Just make sure you don't order too many rich foods your first time like we did. Very neat menu and options. Grits are great but not followed by too much crab dip. We will be back no doubt, but we will go easy on the apps. Tomatoe based dishes and bisque seem to have a lot of tarragon or some other similar herb. I wish them much continued success."

  • "We love Goin Coastal, especially for celebrating special occasions. We came this time for Valentines Day, and brought both sets of parents. As always the atmosphere was cozy and cheerful, and the food was delicious! Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful, but seemed a bit stretched the evening we were there. We had to remind her several times of various needs - refills, limes for our water, another wine - for examples. We were a party of 7, and two in our party were served almost 10 minutes later then the rest. My father was one of those served late and, while he praised the dish itself, he was unhappy it came late. He ended up taking most of it home in a to go box. Otherwise, it was a fantastic dinner and we will be back."

  • "I'm a big fan of the sustainable seafood idea, and appreciate that a place like this exists fairly far OTP. It's definitely a surprise to find it in Canton and also Virginia-Highlands. We waited 10 minutes for someone to come to the table and finally flagged down a friendly and helpful individual. After that, the service was decent. The food was also decent, but certainly didn't stand out for the price we paid. Obviously the best seafood option in Canton, but that wouldn't be hard to do. I appreciate what they're trying to do, it just needs a bit more polish in the service training and food execution. It will be interesting to see what Reel Seafood does in Woodstock when they open soon. Won't rush back to Goin' Coastal for a while."
