  • "When I first came here last year, I wasn't crazy about my meal. I had come back since then because my friends really enjoy it. I ended up going back twice last week, specifically, our waiters gave some incredible recommendations. Plus, I finally got to try the dessert, which was fantastic! Thanks, guys!"

  • "I was looking for a place to bring my wife for our date night. When we arrived at the restaurant there wasn't many people dining. Slowly people came in as it got later. The service was great, waiters would circulate each table about every 5-10 mins to fill our waters. My wife is a vegetarian and this place was one of the highest rated restaurant on open table. I prefer a restaurant that severs meat but their alternatives were amazing. I enjoyed the every dish that we ordered. The dishes were all very well flavored and were fairly large porting sized."

  • "Vegan? Gluten free? No problem! Took a vegan and a celiac to this vegetarian spot and everyone was happy. Good was delicious, price was reasonable. I would eat here anytime! The only downside was that the expediter kept bringing things to the wrong tables and we had to advise him that no, that's not for us, we are waiting on such-and-such. Very minor and he's probably still training. Despite the expediter service was very quick. Very pleased with this restaurant!"

  • "Being a vegetarian for 36 years, I am always on the look out for a good vegetarian restaurant. Gobo didn't disappoint me! My first impression was how nice and cozy it was. Our waiter was excellent - gave us first class service and didn't rush us on anything, even long after the check was paid. The food was delicious and of course, so nice to have so much to choose from! I definitely recommend Gobo and will certainly be returning there."

  • "I found out this place through blog and my colleague who lives around that neighborhood. My friend and I ordered two appetizers (cheese wonton and mango marinated tofu), one small dish (eggplants and green beans) and green noodle with bolognese sauce as main dish. All foods are so good! I was not happy about sake-jito. As dessert, we ordered creme brulee and vegan chocolate cake along with moroccan mint tea. They are excellent. I would love to go back again, but I think I am going to stick with wine instead of cocktail."

  • "Food For vegan/vegetarians/vegetable loving carnivores - great food! Soy/Curd textures are right and sauces are delish! Service Mediocre would be an understatement for the poor service we received. We sat in the middle of a large picnic-like table and I was promptly served water while my friend's glass was overlooked for 20 minutes. This trend continued when the waiter forgot an entire entree and was so scarce that we could barely flag him down to inquire about the dish. Finally, he shows up and apologized by citing the fact that he was confused once he took our order. It didn't occur to him to come back and clarify? Left this meal so hungry solely because the service was below terrible. My solution/suggestion: Order food to go!"

  • "My girlfriend and I have visited Gobo twice. We've consistently loved their entrees, which offer a variety of approaches to Asian-style vegetarian cooking. Anything with mushrooms or soy nuts, in particular, will be spectacular. Skip the spring rolls (flavorless) and the juices (too sweet) in favor of more aggressively savory options."

  • "I'm not one for vegetarian restaurants, but this place was a real gem! The interior decorator did an excellent job creating a welcoming space with original lighting and a nice flow. The center of the restaurant was filled with several individual tables lined up in a row, which gave the illusion of one communal table. We sat towards the end, right in front of the kitchen, and the smells alone were divine. I would have been happy sitting there for hours just observing and inhaling all the dinner options, which, even though I barely knew what I was eating, were beautiful, delicious, and substantial. If every vegetarian meal were like this, I would give up meat!"

The way the menu and food is prepared, it can appeal to everyone. I would recommend making reservations for this place. It will take a while if you come in without reservations."

  • "I love Gobo. It's great to have vegan cuisine that is thoughtfully created and delicious. My carnivore friends, always skeptical at first, love the food here as much as I do and always agree to come back. The service is first-rate--prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. I couldn't ask for more. The food is so good and the portions so generous that we can't even think about dessert. Lots of reasons to want to live in the W. Village; Gobo is one more. Love it."

  • "Great server. Don't remember his name, but all of his recommendations were spot on. Excellent food. Beijing style seitan with Chinese broccoli was wonderful. Yam fries were thick cut and slightly battered. Delicious. The grilled oyster mushrooms with asparagus were fantastically flavorful. The green tea noodles with vegan bolognese was "meaty". Will definitely return. Only downside was the lingering smell of the food on my clothes. Better ventilation system is needed, perhaps."

  • "I walked by this restaurant numerous times. Not until I looked for a new vegan/vegetarian restaurant on the west side that I even thought to try it. It was delicious! I cannot believe after 7 years here, this was my first time at this restaurant. My friend and I ordered the white bean, root vegetable and pumpkin soup. It was hearty and seasoned perfectly. I ordered the kale, beet and seaweed salad. It was fantastic, light and fresh. My friend ordered the sautéed tofu and peppers. I tasted hers... it was also very delicious. The tofu was the perfect texture, size and filled with flavor. I will definitely be back to sample more dishes and definitely try dessert!"

  • "I am not vegan, but I still love coming back. The portions are great. They are split by small plates, large plates, starters, and sides. I've eaten large plates by myself or ordered a few to share with friends, so we can all share the food. Any way you decide to go you will not regret it. Then you have a great wine list to pair up with your meal. Do not worry about asking any questions. The wonderful and pleasant people that take our order and bring our food are also what I enjoy about this place. They are there working, but at the same time you're welcomed as friends and thus interact like some. The restaurant itself attracts foodies and celebrities quite often, from what I've seen over the years. Come in and enjoy, you won't regret it."

  • "What a fabulous place for two Vegetarian girls to have a holiday dinner out. No husbands, no kids! The extensive menu made it incredibly difficult to choose. So many "safe" options for a dairy allergy, I just couldn't decide. Highly recommend the "Butternut Squash" Risotto - - WOW! And tofu-based, "Key Lime Pie" for dessert. Our waitress Jaqueline was so attentive without being obtrusive. We felt like we'd made a new friend and promised to come back for lunch after the New Year."

  • "My companion and I have eaten at Gobo before, and the menu is filled with lots of mouth-watering possibilities. We had steamed vegetable dumplings, and lentil soup, and my friend had a delicious, spicy, stir-fry with pea pods, and thin noodles. All very good. I however, had a very disappointing experience with Butternut Squash Risotto, which sounded good, but was tasteless, and completely unappetizing. The butternut squash was barely cooked, and in some cases crunchy. It was served mixed in with a grain - sort of like dried out brown rice, then topped with slivered almonds (also tasteless). After forcing myself through about half of it, I offered my friend the rest. But, after tasting it, he didn't want it either...."

  • "It's Saturday night at 8pm and the service is poor and inexcusable. I left after appetizers. I complained to the Hostess and she said they were one employee down, and the restaurant was full. I have been here before and the food is excellent, but it has to make it to your table if you are going to eat it. The Waiter seemed intent on picking up the tips from previous diners, which additionally annoyed me, when he could have been providing service."

  • "Have walked by Gobo hundreds of times and finally made it in for our Anniversary dinner this week. OpenTable reservations worked great, we got there a few minutes early and were seated without a hitch. Waiter took our order and our food came out quickly - from our table we could see it all coming together in the kitchen - this restaurant operates like a well oiled machine - turning out amazing vegetarian dishes quicker than you could imagine. i was going to break out all the food we had but honestly i do not think you could go wrong with anything on the menu here. (the only issue we had was the person sitting next to us had way too many bloomingdales bags and was not considerate enough of our personal space)"

  • "So loud it was impossible to talk, but they very kindly gave us the separate table at the front where we could at least hear each other. Don't know why so many restaurants have such terrible acoustics, with all hard surfaces and no sound absorption. And one of the worst perils of dining out - shrieking girls in their twenties ... The food is exceptional, however."
