We had a delicious dinner and great service. When we arrived we were worried by the number of very loud tables, but they cleared out. What really messed up the ambience for us was the heat - so hot, and the air conditioning was not keeping up! The bathroom was like a torture chamber. We'll go back in the fall or winter but not in the summer again.

Great space in a great downtown location. Interesting menu but a bit difficult to follow. Food was conceptually good but the result was mediocre. Highlights included the Smashed Beet salad, the ricotta crostini, and warm chocolate chip cookies with banana sorbet. Amish chicken was greasy and the hamburger was terrible. Bread is extra and nothing special.

Went on a Saturday night, when it was lively, loud, and crowded. Seated after 10 minutes or so, and enjoyed our meal more than expected (from such a crowded, sceney place). Portions were extremely generous. Drinks were delicious. Everything we ordered -- kale salad, steak tartar, cod, vanilla sundae-- met or exceeded expectations. Would return and have already recommended.

We had a reservation for 9:15 and were seated by 9:45. It felt like a walk in. It was crowed and there was a lot of waiting for drinks, for bread (it arrived late and over-burnt)... The food was fair. Good and fresh ingredient. A good neighbor spot.

Great night at Goat Town. Our waiter had an excellent understanding of the wine list. I was dining with a vegetarian friend and, while the menu isn't extensive, there was enough good options for both of us. The tagliatelle was buttery bliss.

I ordered the chestnut pappardelle (bland, overcooked) & the roasted sunchoke/mushroom side dish (tasteless)... So dinner sucked in my opinion. The desert was amazing though-- salted caramel ice cream sundae, WHOA!! Drinks were really good too. You win some, you lose some, I guess!

My friend and I did the dinner special menu (3 courses for $38) and we were both quite disappointed in both the food and the service. The host was rude at the end and just brought us out dessert with us having selected it. We were there for about and hr and a bit and felt extremely rushed by the staff. Food was mediocre too. I would never go back- super rude!!!

Hi: I went for restaurant week . . . always a good way to try a new place. A friend and I had kale salad / steak tartare for 1st course; Tilapia / roast pork on creamed buckwheat for 2nd. Very delicious all. Dessert was ice cream with caramel and pretzels, which mmmm, could be better. Room is old East Village, tin ceiling. Had a great time. Want to back to try a few more things. Oh, and great cocktails!

I had been wanting to try this place for a while so we went for restaurant week. The menu was just okay so we ordered from the regular menu. My pasta was good but not super delicious, it was some sort of pumpkin pasta. My boyfriend had the salmon and the piece was fairly small. I can say the cocktails were super interesting! Not sure I would go back, but worth another shot.

Go eat the Restaurant Week meal and then come back and eat the other dishes on the menu. It's that good. Lots of classics like steak tartare just done really well. The staff was super on top of things. We loved watching the bartender shake drinks in an expert and intense fashion. But I'd pass on the cocktails - at least the two we had - one didn't work with the sherry and the other mostly cool shaped ice cubes with two swallows of the cocktail. I've been here for brunch too but dinner is the real winner.

Went to Goat Town with a couple girlfriends to take advantage of restaurant week and to try some place new. The bar was cozy with plenty of cocktail and beer options. The steak tartare, kale salad and grilled octopus appetizers were all well prepared and delicious. Our dinner steaks were grilled to a really nice rare and the gemelli pasta was fresh and hearty. Add all that food with impecable service and a cozy atmosphere and you have yourself an East Village keeper. Will visit again to try more cocktails and the crostinis.

Great location&cool vibe-vintage lighting&subway tile benches.Staff friendly, attentive&helpful.Menu sounded great-had high expectations.chicken confit&bone marrow crostini-fantastic (best thing we ate).Note:they do not serve bread, gratis.Apparently you can buy it (for $2, ahem). Malbec wine by glass was off(only 4 reds by glass).Cocktails sounded better than tasted - good but not worth price. pork belly appetizer-sauce was delicious but meat dry/overcooked.Roasted veggies were superb.Short rib was moist & tender (sauce ok but a bit too tangy for me)- barley under meat bland/didn't pare well (IMO). Grilled steak (ordered med rare, btw) tasted good but was very tough & chewy.Off putting.Shallot/mustard marmalade served w/steak was delicious.

...but left disappointed. Since there are so many great farm-to-table restaurants cropping up, I figured this one would be just as delicious. But I should have known something was up when I ordered a cappuccino and got a lukewarm latte. The meal was subpar as well, with little flavor. The own good thing was a bus boy kept walking around and filling up our coffee cups.

The kale salad was good and the oysters were fresh and saved with perfect accompaniments, but the chestnut pasta was pretty appallingly dry and bland. The soup special was good, though a little over salted, but the trout wasn't as fresh as it could have been, The burger was excellent, but the risotto was dry. So yes, we had a pretty mixed bag. Bu the service was great and the place is cool to hang out.

Before finishing my meal at Goat Town the other night, I had already decided I wanted to return to eat more of their steak tartare appetizer (which was long gone at that point) and to try new entrees, having sampled almost all of my friends' food. I have had dinner at Goat Town twice, and both times, everyone I was with was incredibly satisfied with their meals. As I mentioned before, a lot of sharing and sampling ended up happening since everyone was raving about their food. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful, patient, and accommodating. Highly recommend.

I find it annoying that they wouldn't do egg whites. When I requested my eggs to be scrambles and please only do egg whites. The response is that "we don't have egg whites". Well, you must if you have eggs. When I went to retrieve my coat in the back I saw that they did indeed have actual eggs in their shells. I find it very inflexible of the restaurant not to accommodate that simple request, especially when I am willing to pay for it.

So many places come and go in this neighborhood. I hope this place stays for a long time.Unique antique fixtures, a friendly bartender and wait staff. Had a tasty lemony cocktail, special kale soup and the moules, very comforting for a cold Dec evening. Friends had burger and salads. Was really enjoying my evening catching up with my 2 girlfriends until a young woman at the table next to us actually told us we were making too much noise (!!) and could we keep it down?!...this is not a hush hush midtown french restaurant, this is a funky cute casual place in Alphabet City! The owner came by to make sure we were all enjoying ourselves, you could tell he was embarrased for us. So go and enjoy and make as much noise as you like!
