Diner Reviews
  • "We had a reservation for 9:15 and were seated by 9:45. It felt like a walk in. It was crowed and there was a lot of waiting for drinks, for bread (it arrived late and over-burnt)... The food was fair. Good and fresh ingredient. A good neighbor spot."

  • "Excellent food and service. Small place but does not feel overcrowded."

  • "Great night at Goat Town. Our waiter had an excellent understanding of the wine list. I was dining with a vegetarian friend and, while the menu isn't extensive, there was enough good options for both of us. The tagliatelle was buttery bliss."

  • "I ordered the chestnut pappardelle (bland, overcooked) & the roasted sunchoke/mushroom side dish (tasteless)... So dinner sucked in my opinion. The desert was amazing though-- salted caramel ice cream sundae, WHOA!! Drinks were really good too. You win some, you lose some, I guess!"

  • "This place is a good brunch option, but the "we wont seat you until your whole party is here" is a tired response at this point. So annoying."

  • "food was excellent, creative without being over the top. menu was not overwhelming but had lots of solid choices. all the members of the staff were beyond pleasant-- very relaxed and never made us feel rushed! overall: simple, clean, and effortlessly good. a light and airy, comfortable spot. will most definitely be back!"

  • "My friend and I did the dinner special menu (3 courses for $38) and we were both quite disappointed in both the food and the service. The host was rude at the end and just brought us out dessert with us having selected it. We were there for about and hr and a bit and felt extremely rushed by the staff. Food was mediocre too. I would never go back- super rude!!!"

  • "A wonderful farm-to-table small restaurant in a lovely space. It's cozy without being crowded, the service is hip and friendly but professional and the food is interesting, fresh, delicious. Plus, won't break the bank."

  • "Hi: I went for restaurant week . . . always a good way to try a new place. A friend and I had kale salad / steak tartare for 1st course; Tilapia / roast pork on creamed buckwheat for 2nd. Very delicious all. Dessert was ice cream with caramel and pretzels, which mmmm, could be better. Room is old East Village, tin ceiling. Had a great time. Want to back to try a few more things. Oh, and great cocktails!"

  • "Go eat the Restaurant Week meal and then come back and eat the other dishes on the menu. It's that good. Lots of classics like steak tartare just done really well. The staff was super on top of things. We loved watching the bartender shake drinks in an expert and intense fashion. But I'd pass on the cocktails - at least the two we had - one didn't work with the sherry and the other mostly cool shaped ice cubes with two swallows of the cocktail. I've been here for brunch too but dinner is the real winner."

  • "Went to Goat Town with a couple girlfriends to take advantage of restaurant week and to try some place new. The bar was cozy with plenty of cocktail and beer options. The steak tartare, kale salad and grilled octopus appetizers were all well prepared and delicious. Our dinner steaks were grilled to a really nice rare and the gemelli pasta was fresh and hearty. Add all that food with impecable service and a cozy atmosphere and you have yourself an East Village keeper. Will visit again to try more cocktails and the crostinis."

  • "Everything was fantastic, from the crostini and kale salad apps to the salted caramel sundae for dessert. The burger stood out though. Perfectly cooked- juicy and flavorful. We've already made a date with friends to return."

  • "Great location&cool vibe-vintage lighting&subway tile benches.Staff friendly, attentive&helpful.Menu sounded great-had high expectations.chicken confit&bone marrow crostini-fantastic (best thing we ate).Note:they do not serve bread, gratis.Apparently you can buy it (for $2, ahem). Malbec wine by glass was off(only 4 reds by glass).Cocktails sounded better than tasted - good but not worth price. pork belly appetizer-sauce was delicious but meat dry/overcooked.Roasted veggies were superb.Short rib was moist & tender (sauce ok but a bit too tangy for me)- barley under meat bland/didn't pare well (IMO). Grilled steak (ordered med rare, btw) tasted good but was very tough & chewy.Off putting.Shallot/mustard marmalade served w/steak was delicious."

  • "We went with a group of friends for my girlfriend's birthday. We made a reservation in advance and when we called to say we were running a bit late - they were extremely accommodating. We have amazing drinks & great food! The waiter was very polite & fun!"

  • "...but left disappointed. Since there are so many great farm-to-table restaurants cropping up, I figured this one would be just as delicious. But I should have known something was up when I ordered a cappuccino and got a lukewarm latte. The meal was subpar as well, with little flavor. The own good thing was a bus boy kept walking around and filling up our coffee cups."

  • "The food was excellent. The hostess was polite and welcoming. Our server never rushed us and was very helpful in recommending an entre. Ambiance was fantastic. It was a great overall experience and I would highly recommend it to anyone."

  • "The kale salad was good and the oysters were fresh and saved with perfect accompaniments, but the chestnut pasta was pretty appallingly dry and bland. The soup special was good, though a little over salted, but the trout wasn't as fresh as it could have been, The burger was excellent, but the risotto was dry. So yes, we had a pretty mixed bag. Bu the service was great and the place is cool to hang out."

  • "Before finishing my meal at Goat Town the other night, I had already decided I wanted to return to eat more of their steak tartare appetizer (which was long gone at that point) and to try new entrees, having sampled almost all of my friends' food. I have had dinner at Goat Town twice, and both times, everyone I was with was incredibly satisfied with their meals. As I mentioned before, a lot of sharing and sampling ended up happening since everyone was raving about their food. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful, patient, and accommodating. Highly recommend."

  • "One of my favorite "tried and true" brunch spots in the East Village, Goat Town is delicious, affordable and makes a fantastic Bloody Mary. We enjoyed an MLK Day brunch here and the staff, service and food was fantastic as usual."

  • "Love the local sourcing of ingredients prepared in creative ways. Novel blend of new and comfort foods. We tried it for brunch. Group of 4 enjoyed tasting each other's dishes. Attentive wait staff. Interesting, charming decor."

  • "So many places come and go in this neighborhood. I hope this place stays for a long time.Unique antique fixtures, a friendly bartender and wait staff. Had a tasty lemony cocktail, special kale soup and the moules, very comforting for a cold Dec evening. Friends had burger and salads. Was really enjoying my evening catching up with my 2 girlfriends until a young woman at the table next to us actually told us we were making too much noise (!!) and could we keep it down?!...this is not a hush hush midtown french restaurant, this is a funky cute casual place in Alphabet City! The owner came by to make sure we were all enjoying ourselves, you could tell he was embarrased for us. So go and enjoy and make as much noise as you like!"

  • "been many times since first opened - back garden added, decor changed, menu always updated seasonally - staff changes but always attentive and knowledgable - consistently excellent casual place"

  • "I find it annoying that they wouldn't do egg whites. When I requested my eggs to be scrambles and please only do egg whites. The response is that "we don't have egg whites". Well, you must if you have eggs. When I went to retrieve my coat in the back I saw that they did indeed have actual eggs in their shells. I find it very inflexible of the restaurant not to accommodate that simple request, especially when I am willing to pay for it."

  • "Waiter seemed annoyed to be working our table. Order was delivered with missing plates and he was upset that we asked for the missing plates. Rather than an apology, he was rude and thought it was no big deal to miss plates."

  • "Although the phone number didn't work to make a reservation, I still saved it in my phone and blamed telephone technology for the disconnect. Goat Town should be on everyone's east village dining list. I have always been satisfied from drinks to dessert. Always a sure-shot for a lovely meal and evening."

  • "Great bartender and then downhill--although the grilled octopus was good, albeit costly as was everything--except the drinks. Avoid the mussels: each mussel was about 1/4 of an inch long and 1/16 of an inch thick, in other words, about 8 would have made up one bite. The broth consisted of hard white beans, tomato strands, black olives and limp zucchini discs. The pasta was barely better. A shame: we wanted to love Goat Town."
