Diner Reviews
  • "I had been to the Glenwood Grill for lunch since moving to Raleigh, several years ago and was not that interested in dinner there with some friends. We booked and I was suitably impressed with the varied menu, and everyone's entrees were fabulous. Keep up the good work!"

  • "Our favorite restaurant for many years. For us, the best seafood in the entire area. have tried all entrees and have never been disappointed but the seafood and grits is the mainstay and my personal favorite. Service led by Brian and Kevin is topnotch. If someone doesn't like the Glenwood Grill, they probably don't like Christmas either."

  • "If you are driving on Glenwood Ave, you could miss this--use the Harris Teeter as your landmark. A great place for dinner and the food is different, yet delicious. I wll be back here!!!"

  • "Food was excellent, service was great, reasonably priced....only negative comment was the noise level....may have been during the heavy dinner hour at 7:30 hour...never noticed the noise before! Had out-of-town guests, and they really enjoyed the evening!"

  • "We had a lovely experience --- the food was delicious, the host and waiter attentive, but the best part was the extra attention recognizing our wedding anniversary!! The creme brulee was superb--- thank you..."

  • "Glenwood Grill had a great menu of choices and the food was fantastic. Lobster Mac was great, fried oysters were to die for, and the catfish was perfectly cooked. I will be returning within a week for those oysters. Service was a little slow to start, but they were very busy, and it was a Saturday night."

  • "My first visit to Glenwood Grill. I took an out of town houseguest and she LOVED her meal and we had a quiet atmosphere so we could hear one another talk. I will definitely go again!i"

  • "This was our first visit to Glenwood Grill, and we were pleasantly surprised. The tuna that my wife had was excellent, and the filet that I had was very good. This is very much an "old Raleigh" hangout, and there were a lot of bow ties, summer linen suits, and even a tuxedo on one guest. The formica tables were a but underwhelming, but the food and service were great, and I would recommend this restaurant."

  • "Great food but noisy. We grow weary of having to shout to communicate with friends at the same table. A little expensive."

  • "We arrived early for an 8 pm reservation on a Thursday. Our table wasn't ready and the bar was full. Host offered us a table outside weather was pleasant so we took it. Ordered cocktails and 2 appetizers, mac and cheese and fried green tomatoes. Enjoyed both. Everyone seems to love the mac and cheese, we all enjoyed it but we wouldn't rave about it. I had their special, red snapper, others ordered the herb crusted rare tuna and the pan seared scallops. Would recommend any of them, especially the tuna and the scallops. Even though the outside table faced out to the parking lot it was pleasant and actually seemed more private because the tables are nestled into nooks. 2 or 3 people at the outside tables is ideal. 4 would be too many"

  • "Glenwood Grill is one of my favorite places. Usually the food is excellent. But this time around, the catfish was mushy and tasteless. The soup of the day was quite good. From this fine restaurant, I expect consistently excellent food. They are forgiven for this slip, but it was disappointing."

  • "The nondescript building is located in a small strip mall with clientele primarily middle aged females with a few young couples arriving later. Dress was nice casual with a few females arriving in heels and short shorts. An older man sat alone all night at the bar. Thankfully the food was not reflective of the surroundings. The creamy lobster mac and cheese was ordered to share but presented with one small piece of toast Our table ordered crab cakes, scallops, seafood grits and flounder special, all receiving excellent comments. Very little filling in the crab cakes, vegetables were fresh, and scallops seared well. Web touted chocolate bread pudding no longer available replaced by a cloyingly sweet plain version."

  • "What a pleasant find. Location is a little tucked away off the main road but we found it without much trouble. Well worth the wait; 2 weeks to get a Sat. 7pm table. Our meals were terrific catfish and sea scallops. Can't wait to return, so glad we came upon this long time local gem."

  • "made reservation for anniversary they remembered and brought a free dessert. Hadn't been here in a LONG time and it was just as good as we remembered it."

  • "You can count on the quality of food and good service at Glenwood. My favorite crab cakes were very good as I expected. Accompanying creamy corn was freshly made from scratch (not canned corn). The arugula salad, which is mixed with pecans and granny smith dressed with balsamic, was also accompanied with the crab cakes. Very good dish. My friend had seafood paella. Saffron chorizo rice was tasty and was topped with seafood. In the nice summer night, with good wine, our dinner ended with happy smile."

  • "Although the GPS took us on a wild goose chase, I'm glad we didn't give up and managed to find this place. Tucked in a strip mall, it's been there for many years and the experience shows. The food was fantastic and Rick's service was great."

  • "We enjoyed a very nice dinner with our friends this evening at Glenwood Grill. Our table was ready on time, the waiter gave just the right amount of attention to us, and the food was simply sublime. Perfectly cooked mahi mahi, paella that tasted like it was made in an authentic Spanish restaurant, crab cakes that had the sweetest crab with virtually no filler, and steaks that were tender and melted in your mouth. Dessert did not disappoint either! The creme brulee was the favorite of the table. Four of thecsix of us were dining at GC for the first time and all agreed that this is a restaurant that belongs on our "regular" places to go. You will not be disappointed at GC regardless of you food choice."

  • "Got there early to have a drink, and ended up waiting a little longer than expected to get the waiter we requested. Alan is incredible. Worth a wait and then some. If the glenwood grill is on your list, get Alan to be your server. Absolutely awesome. Oh, and the she-crab soup... To die for! Best thing on the menu."

  • "We have enjoyed a delicious dinner at Glenwood Grill a number of times since our son moved to Raleigh recently. The food and service are consistently outstanding! We highly recommend it!"

  • "This was my first time for lunch and prefer the dinner menu. My friends order the salmon salad, mahi mahi salad, shrimp and grits. The mahi salad needed more zest. My friend had to ask for a refill on tea, so the service could have been a little more attentive. We had Creme Brulee for dessert which was absolutely delicious and would highly recommend. Will return for dinner."

  • "Tucked into a shopping plaza on Glenwood Ave. This gem near the Raleigh Country Club could go unnoticed. I presume its reputation keeps the tables filled. The food is consistently delicious and I appreciate the options for 1/2 portions of filet, crabcakes, and others since I'd rather not always be leaving with a foam container! Staff is good at directing you to a good wine and their signature blend of Fair Trade coffee is wonderful. Save room for dessert. "

  • "We love Glenwood Grill. The food is reliably good with several things we want to order. There is a mix of old favorites and new dishes. On Saturday we were disappointed to find ourselves speed dining on a rare Saturday night out alone. We were through our three course meal in under an hour which is fine for a business lunch but hardly what we were looking for on a date! I don't think we looked like we were in a hurry but maybe that's the way we looked! Next time we'll ask them to go slow!"
