Diner Reviews
  • "The food and drink offerings were nicely varied and the pastas and breads made on site showed great promise for a nice evening meal. However, the services came off like standing in line at a cafeteria, pushing your tray along to get your food. There wasn't anything wrong with the service, courteous, prompt, and efficient, but there was wasn't anything right about it either. Having a more relaxed atmosphere, from being seated to the table service would make me return to the good food quickly. We enjoyed a plate of oysters and martinis to honor their name, both of which were delicious. The homemade raviolis and wild boar dinners rated 4 stars. If the managing of the staff were stepped up, the place would become a favorite dinning place. "

  • "We loved the raw oyster selection but were equally impressed by the delicately pressed and fried oysters, nothing like a poor boy fried oyster, very delicate with a perfect balance of fried and fresh. The martini selection is outstanding, we had a classic "dirty" vodka martini and it was excellent. Such a pretty spot. Glen ellen has such a nice local vibe and the combination of cute country cross-road and foodie sophistication and very moderate prices -- its a must go."

  • "They have a wide menu with delicious salads, homemade soups and fresh seafood dishes. The staff are knowledgeable, welcoming and very accommodating. I have brought world travelers, elderly neighbors, business associates and girlfriends having birthdays to dine at the Glenn Ellen Inn and every last one has loved dining there. Their breads and sausages are made in house and they use fresh local ingredients. The wine list is extensive. Have I mentioned that they also are a martini and oyster bar. They are located in a lovely pastoral setting along a creek among the oaks. Easy parking. Everything about the Glen Ellen Martini and Oyster Bar is just what I'm looking for."

  • "We enjoy the ambience, food, and excellent service. What a quaint , wonderfully decorated, and cozy special restaurant. We particularly love the martinis, oysters, and mussels! We often take out of town guests who always want to repeat going there when they come back to visit. We have had wonderful service. The special ice cream is to die for........."

  • "Our party of four went to the Glen Ellen Inn for lunch on Sunday. They were very buy. However, we still received outstanding service. WE all enjoyed the salads we ordered as well as the cheese and fruit plate appetizer. It was really lovely experience. We eat there on a regular basis and have never been disappointed."

  • "I had the pleasure of dining with my family at the Glen Ellen Oyster Grill and Bar on a Sunday afternoon. Given our early lunch reservation (11:30 AM), our party of 3 was allowed to select a table (chose indoor seating). Unfortunately, we were not informed that a large party (~ 10) would be sitting next to us (arrived ~ noon) - this group of diners were particularly loud, so it was difficult to carry on a conversation during lunch. The food was very good- the lunch special (salmon pasta) was outstanding (freshly made pasta and salmon perfectly seasoned/cooked), as was the steak entree and raw oysters. This restaurant serves excellent bread - homemade mini scones and an assortment of other baked bread."

  • "This was our first time at the Glen Ellen Inn Oyster Grill & Martini Bar. We were offered our choice of seating and decided to sit outside on a small balcony overlooking the patio. It was beautiful! Ordering drinks from the extensive martini menu was fun and the drinks were very good. Everyone in our party of 4 loved their dinner, which was artfully presented and just the right amount of food. The bread, scones and ice cream are all hand-made and delicious. The dessert menu was fabulous! We all enjoyed everything about this restaurant, including the reasonable prices (only a $9 corkage fee). I would definitely recommend this restaurant and plan to return."

  • "This is a really nice restaurant - with delicious food, great service and wonderful ambiance. We sat on the patio overlooking a waterfall and surrounded by tree lights. The food is very nice - try the GRILLED ROMAINE Caesar Salad - unusual and distinctly delicious. The salmon and plank steak were exceptional as were the garlic fries. The service was professional yet delivered with ease and great humor. All in all, a perfect evening!"

  • "This was our first visit to the Glen Ellen Inn Oyster Grill and Martini Bar and it will be our last. The food at best was mediocre. The Caesar salad was only a very small portion and was bland and not particularly tasty, Very disappointing because the online menu looked promising."

  • "If you're in Glen Ellen, it's a great place for a very good meal. A large selection of Martini's, with great service and outstanding food. I look forward to going back, next time I'm in the area."

  • "Hadn't been here in a long time & was looking forward to it. Oysters didn't taste fresh. Ordered salmon prepared medium for entree and received a beautiful looking piece of fish, but way overlooked. Second one came out raw in the center with tons of stringy white pieces. Gave up entirely after that. This is a gorgeous restaurant that needs to work on their food quality."

  • "Since discovering this place a couple of years ago, we come here often….the food is always great….I am not a big meat eater but when I do want a steak this is the place! ALWAYS delicious! Staff is wonderful, attentive and courteous….we often bring out of town guests, knowing that they won't be disappointed either!"

  • "We went on a Monday night and there area limited number of places open in the area on those times but came away happy that we chose the place. Our waitress couldn't have been better and was extremely interactive and friendly. We ordered the mussels as an appetizer and the sauce was amazing - the best either of us had ever had. We had the seared Ahi for our entree and it was delicious as were the two desserts we tried. I would definitely go back."

  • "We were in town for Valentine's and this was one of the only restaurants available for Valentine's. The service was good but the food was nothing special. I had prawns with Jasmine rice and papaya. John had chicken Ciopinno. Both meals were ok but I can cook better. Mine was bland and the prawns were over cooked. John's Cioppino was bland too. Our dessert sounded very decadent but it turned out to be chocolate ice cream. Everyone wants to be pampered with great food on Valentine's and this was not so special."

  • "I was taken here for a milestone birthday dinner. I am fairly knowledgeable about food, and in fact consider myself to be a foodie. I don't give a restaurant a great rating, based on opulence or high-prices, nor do I like places where they do strange things to food, trying to be unique and creative. I like a restaurant to serve great food and provide friendly service. I also want the atmosphere to be warm and welcoming--some place I would want to come back to time and again. Glen Ellen Inn Oyster Grill & Martini Bar delivered on all fronts. I would definitely go back, and plan to in the not too distant future. The attention they pay to preparing the food they serve, is obvious with each bite. Great find!"

  • "My wife and I decided to avoid the Valentine's Day rush, so made reservations for Thursday the 13th. This was our third visit to this delightful spot and we were just as impressed as we were the first time. The ambiance was delightful, all the employees acted as if the actually enjoyed their jobs, and the food was outstanding. Our server suggested the grilled iceburg lettuce salad for starters. Trust me, as weird as it sounds, this was hands down the best salad we've ever had. My wife's salmon was perfectly prepared as was my rib-eye steak. For dessert we shared the Buttered Popcorn ice cream sundae, very unique and super tasty. We highly recommend this picturesque little spot for anyone looking for something a little out of the ordinary."

  • "The Glen Ellen Restaurant (Martini and Oyster Bar) is my favorite restaurant in this part of the county. It has a lovely ambience, excellent food and very good service. I have been therefor lunch and dinner and have always thoroughly enjoyed myself. It is the place we take our visitors as well. Wonderful dining experience and not too expensive (except maybe for wine prices, which are very high in most restaurants now) I had a baked brie and poached pear salad which was awesome"

  • "The food is consistently good at this quaint neighborhood restaurant. We were disappointed with the overall experience this last time around. They just revamped some of the decor including a new fake wood floor which makes the restaurant much noisier than before. Another pet peeve is the size of their wine glasses. They have one of the best wine menus of any restaurant in Sonoma Valley with wines in all price ranges, but mostly upper end as it is a sophisticated wine selection. That said, the glasses are the size that one would use in a tasting room. It doesn't seem appropriate to be drinking a $100. bottle of wine in college dorm glasses. A few simple changes would go a long way."

  • "Glen Ellen inn was a wonderful surprise. We ate here after reading a review in whine spectator. The food was outstanding and the service could not have been better. We will definitely return to the inn to eat again and highly recommend it. My husband enjoyed the hanger steak and I had the best cioppino I have ever eaten."

  • "We were reluctant when we arrived at the restaurant. The building looked a bit old and run down. However, the aroma from the kitchen changed our minds. The restaurant décor is a bit dated but obviously they have tried to make the place look nice. We had the special of the evening, seafood fettuccini with homemade pasta. Outstanding! Very good wine list. We were too full to even think of dessert. Very attentive server."

  • "Everything was perfect for our group of four. The martini list was amazing and I had the best martini I've ever had. The food and service was excellent. If our vacation had been one more day, we would have eaten there again. By far the best meal we had while on vacation. I would love to have another order if cioppino. Don't skip this restaurant if you are near by."

  • "De-lightful, de-lish, de-lovely!! Our group of 5 thoroughly enjoyed our meal- we were given a table with a view of the open kitchen AND the waterfall. Waitstaff helpful without hovering. Excellent food (homemade lamb pastrami, beautiful ravioli, stuffed chicken breast w/ cassoulet, lamb shank paired w/ a local pinot and some bubbly). The table was treated with a plate of ginger snaps and house made ice cream to accompany our coffees. A truly wonderful dining experience- we will return!"

  • "But too noisy to have a conversation with dining companion. The night I went one of the rooms was closed so it was extremely loud and noisy. Been here several times before and never had that problem. Also, ordered a salmon spinach salad which I have had before and this portion was about half the usual size. Not sure why this was but very disappointing."

  • "Glen Ellen Inn Oyster Bar is a real wine country find. My wife and I come several times a year for a 'date night'. In addition to the great food and Oyster Bar their killer app are the 'secret cottages'. Very romantic, and after enjoying a wonderful meal with wine, we can stroll back to our accommodation without having to drive home. For this visit we brought my wife's parents who couldn't say enough nice things about their experience. We started in the Oyster Bar where they chose Champagne to go with the oysters. I had a martini made with China Beach Vodka, an award winning vodka made from grapes. Then on to dinner featuring lamb, steak and salmon all excellent. The wine selection and service were also as good as it gets."
