Diner Reviews
  • "Ok so it is not my first time there. Food is mediocre to good. Loud.....no really it is stunningly loud. In place of acoustic panels they have glass panels on the ceiling. Felt like I had to woof down my food to get out of there. They were out of the ribeye so I took the suggestion of the dry aged by strip. I had a dry aged sirloin at capital grill and it was way better, less tough and more marbled flavor than the bull neck here. The bread and butter was good and the rum cake was excellent.....but it is really loud. Not the music, the screeching ustomers trying to talk over the din of noise"

  • "The menu has some basic comfort food items like chicken fried steak or short ribs, but each dish was extremely flavorful and accompanied with decadent mashed potatoes laced with smoked gouda cheese ...yum! We had the craw-fish ravioli appetizer which was light and tasty."

  • "Only able to get early reservation despite lots of open tables through 8:00pm. Service was attentive - Jose was most informative. Food was served timely, was hot and to our specifications. The bread pudding Happy Birthday was delicious."

  • "Nice restaurant. Our waitress, Laura, knew the menu as well as the wines; offered suggestions. The bread and the Main Lobster Dip was outstanding. Food prepared very well; presentation nice. The noise level was a little high, but my niece and I could still talk. All personnel were friendly and accommodating. Excellent dining experience."

  • "The overall food was overcooked and unflavored. The desserts had no flavor - lemon blueberry cake tasted like a plain yellow cake -no lemon; the cherry jubilee bread pudding was not cherry jubilee it was plain bread pudding. Just not my cup of tea."

  • "Great food, wonderful service, beautiful place. Noise level increased as the restaurant filled up. Service was gracious, knowledgable, and unintrusive! The food was really good and very inticing in is presentation. My partner said the beet salad was the best he had ever eaten."

  • "Glass Wall is a great place, really nice unique menu. Service was impeccable, food was awesome. I took my girlfriend here for our "6 month" anniversary, and they treated us like it was 6 years. Made her really happy, and impressed me. Definitely would go back, and would recommend."

  • "The food and service were incredible but the noise level is off the charts. I was warned by a friend but it was even louder then I thought it was going to be. I could barely make out what boyfriend was saying the entire evening. The reality is, there isn't much that can probably be done about it. Its a small dining area and lots of diners. I would still recommend it though because our meals were awesome and the service was impeccable."

  • "My wife's Veal picatta was great and so was my paella (sp?). We were celebrating a birthday and the complimentary bread pudding topped off the meal perfectly. The sugested wine pairings complimented the entrees. We will be back soon to try the pork chops next time."

  • "Food was great, we tried the lobster dip, paella , scallops with risotto and diablo shrimp (our least favorite), did wine pairing which was very nice. Lemon cake was suggested for dessert and it was fabulous. Prices are high, service maybe just a bit too many visits to the table. Ambiance for my taste was a bit to open and loud without a more intimate feeling. "

  • "we enjoyed our dinner of Veal tournedos and CHicken Fried Steak. Both very good. Room temperature was ideal too. Really a nice surprise this time of year. Most places are freezing cold. wine pairings was a real treat."

  • "Had a great meal with wonderful friends. Everything was wonderful. The house made chips were very good, though I did get a couple that were a bit soggy. Great lighting made everyone look beautiful. A fabulous experience that I hope to repeat soon."

  • "The Glass Wall has conquered a unique niche in Houston: wine pairing. We have eaten our way across the Houston food scene and found excellent food and diverse wine lists, mostly by the bottle. In comes the Glass Wall- an incredibly thoughtful, diverse wine list created to pair with their seasonal menu. Many of the pairings came from "off the beaten path" wineries that are difficult to find at your grocer. The pairings were spot on, elevating an accentuating the dishes with which they were served (try the pinotage from South Africa with the lamb lollipop starter). A thought for when you dine here: go for the starters and make a dinner out of 3 or 4 of them with the pairings- this is definitely the Glass Wall's strength. We'll be back! "

  • "I have become a regular here and the staff remembers my name, my wine order, appetizers, etc. The food is always made to perfection! "

  • "Service was excellent. Bread and seasoned butter was heavenly. I do not recommend the chicken fried steak--the breading (crushed cornflakes) was wet and soggy, not crisp and the meat was too thick. The noise level is a definite detractor--felt like I was shouting to be heard. One thing that struck me as odd--someone two tables away had the evening's fish special...there was such a strong fish smell, I could smell it at my table. Fish not fresh? "

  • "I've recommended the place and have been there 3-4 times in the last 6months.A good meal, good service, then a misunderstanding over the check:we thought service was included and only added a small amount to the tip.We were chased out of the restaurant by a near hysterical manager. After asking him to step back inside to discuss it and rectify the situation we were screamed at and told the waitress only makes a couple of dollars an hour and he'd pay her himself. We popped a tip through the door for her the next day regardless.A simple misunderstanding dealt with badly by someone either under a lot of stress, or influence of something else.A shame to lose this from our roster of local favorites. Won't be going back. "

  • "The beat salad and Cioppino were a hit. Everyone had a great time. In the past it had been noisy, but this was addressed with ceiling tiles. It was still a little loud, but much better. The food and service far out weigh this issue. Everyone enjoyed their meals."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner on Saturday night - our third visit in less than a year. The service, presentation, and our meals were excellent. They have interesting suggested wine pairings with each dish, and we have yet to take a wrong turn following their lead. We are trying wines we don't know and expanding our palates, plus the wine will "work" with our choices - important as we tend to go divergent ways with my husband tending to order the meat dishes while I go towards fish or vegan. Glass wall stands the test of time as it brings in a full house on the weekends while not the latest, newest, buzziest place with a lot of media coverage (has been in the same location for a long time). "

  • "We have been to the Glass Wall many times and have always found the food excellent. This time was different. Our friend's steak was tasty but very tough. Our other friend's Diablo shrimp required pepper flakes to get it anywhere near diablo level and my red snapper was extremely bland. But, the crab cakes were delicious and the lamb lollipops outstanding. And, as always, the wine list fabulous! This is a great neighborhood gem (rapidly becoming an institution) and I hope our next experience gets it back to the level it has always been."

  • "It's one thing to read about how wonderful a restaurant is, but it's even better when both the food & the friendly service exceed your expectations. Our party shared appetizers such as the crab fingers, & the lobster queso (??) Those appetizers alone were big enough to share among 5 people. But then we all tried each other's pork chops, the chicken fried steak & the veal , & were blown away. The Glass Wall lived up to it's hype. It was well worth the 30 minute drive from our neighborhood. "
