Diner Reviews
  • "Many steps above most of the other choices in the Theatre District. A true gem that will not disappoint!"

  • "The restaurant wasn't anything special. It looks cute but the food for restaurant week was very mediocre. "

  • "It was my girlfriend's 60th birthday - the restaurant honored my seating request by the fireplace and when I asked if they would provide a birthday cake, they we could either order off the menu or bring our own cake. We brought our own, they served it at no extra charge, garnished with berries! In addition, the food is delectable! While most of the theatre district restaurants are fine, Glass House Tavern is exceptional."

  • "We chose the Glass House Tavern for a pre-theatre meal. The location was perfect, but the meal was just okay. My appetizer was quite tasty but overall the food was a bit lacklustre. Not horrible, but we'd hoped for much better given the reputation of NYC eateries. There are better spots within this price range in the neighbourhood."

  • "It was our first visit to Glass House Tavern - but, it will not be our last. Our group enjoyed all."

  • "Great location in heart of theater district. Bar up front and quiet tables in the back. Good food, reasonable prices."

  • "The Glass House Tavern never disappoints. The food and selection is good - the specials are always interesting and quite tasty. It's a perfect restaurant to go to with friends - or that special loved one!!"

  • "IT was an unusual night because President Obama was across the street at the theatre so the street was closed. the restaurant was probably quiet for that reason. the ambience was very understated and elegant. the service was professional and efficient. there was a very loud private party happening around the corner but the curtains that were drawn helped to dampen the sound. the appetizers were good-grilled shrimp ( a little on the rubbery side and slightly fishy smelling) but still good and the pineapple chutney with it was delicious. the mussels were spicy but good. the entrees-roast chicken, duck wellington, filet mignon, delicious. the desserts-not that great-felt like an old, dated re run. overall good food, good service, not amazing."

  • "Fun vibe in the theater district. Bustling bar scene with theater insiders. Quiet restaurant scene in the back."

  • "I've been to this restaurant 4 times & have been extremely happy with it. They are incredibly accommodating & will pretty much try to meet any requests. I love that I can order from the bar menu in the dining room. Service was fast but not too fast & the waitstaff are very friendly. No NY snottiness. It is within walking distance to most theaters so a great pre theater spot. Food was very good & the prices are great especially for NY."

  • "I had a work dinner here a few summers ago and thought the food was great. I was less impressed when I recently went for brunch/lunch before a Sunday matinee. I ordered the grilled jumbo shrimp -- not jumbo -- and a beet and goat cheese salad. The food was good; not great as I remembered. Our server was very nice though."

  • "We shared a delicious salad and then had a pasta dish with lamb sauce and paella. The pasta dish was good, but I think paella is better eaten in a Spanish or Portuguese restaurant."

  • "We came to town to see a show, all of us with birthdays in April, and we chose the Glass House Tavern because of its proximity to the theater. It was perfect! The drinks were excellent, the food was superb and the service was spectacular. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a wonderful relaxing meal before or after a show!"

  • "Restaurant in the theatre district. Service was awesome. Wish I could remember our server's name as he was most attentive and was excellent. Food was undeniably awesome. Will definitely go back and highly recommend this place. Was only there for dinner hence this review."

  • "This restaurant has good food, friendly service and comfortable seating. The menu was good, and the food was very well prepared and presented. We were served in a timely manner without being rushed, with tables not being one on top of the orher so you have some privacy. We have been here several times and plan on returning soon."

  • "A good choice for pre Broadway show with friendly staff. Hopping bar scene as well"

  • "It is always a challenge to find a reasonably priced restaurant in the theater district of NYC. Glass House Tavern offered large portion appetizers and salads that made a delicious light meal before seeing a show. The asparagus salad was fresh and full of delicious surprises. The crab cake although tasty, could have used a bit more crab. The best feature of the restaurant was its service. We were asked upon seating if we were seeing a show. The wait staff was timely with our food as well as the check. I would return here again as our table request was honored. The back of the restaurant is much too dark for my taste. I enjoyed sitting upstairs in the light next to the window."

  • "I found this restaurant at opentable. We were visiting from Baltimore for the w/e and stayed in the Times Square area. Our reservation was at 5:30pm & we had an 8:00pm show. I thought 2 hours was plenty of time to eat. While I appreciated our server asking if we had theatre tickets, I felt incredibly rushed. It was just my husband & I, so I wasn't concerned about getting to our show. Good thing the food was worth it. The asparagus duo salad is a must. I had the duck and my husband had lamb Bolognese. Great food, just give yourself some time and enjoy."

  • "This is our third or fourth visit. and is perfect for dinner before a Broadway show. Comfortable, informal, good food and good service. Menu is varied and whether you want a light meal or full dinner, it is all good! Last week I had mussels and a salad. Just what I wanted."

  • "IN all the years I've been going to theatre, I never discovered the Glass House until now. The staff are friendly and helpful. The bar scene is active and the upstairs dining room is a bit eneregtic, but it was a great experience overall. Actually, the prix fixed dinner was wonderful. The duck wellington was excellent as an appetizer and the pineapple bread pudding as dessert was tasty. The entrees were well prepared and had good flavor as well. Finally, our waiter, Jerome, was friendly and responsive and made our meal vey enjoyable."

  • "Our female server was rude and unattentive to our table. She rolled her eyes at one of our guests when she ordered a non-alcoholic drink. And instead of serving another guest the gin and ton a that he was ordering, she served him gin and soda. By the third drink, our friend made another server try the drink and he confirmed that it was gin and soda, not gin and tonic. Good food. Awful service."

  • "We ate at the Glass House Tavern prior to seeing the Book of Mormon. The restaurant is close to many shows. When we arrived our server asked if we were going to a show. She was a little quicker on the order taking and presenting the check. Food was very good and my steak was perfectly cooked."

  • "Recommended by a friend who lives in NYC - was perfect for a special romantic dinner after a play. The entrees' and drinks were some of the best we have had. Service was impeccable and atmosphere perfect. We can't wait to go again."

  • "Menu and food were great.. however, we were a group of 13 for matinee pre-theater lunch where time was a definite factor. Service unfortunately was pretty slow. Would definitely try this restaurant again (due to good food and ambience) with the hope that a different waiter might do a better job.."

  • "Wonderful meal, great service, fun place. We went to see A Raisin in the Sun and this restaurant is across the street just perfectly convenient. Definitely put this on your list to go!"

  • "We booked brunch at the Glass House Tavern because it's close to the theatre. We didn't expect much since good restaurants in the theatre district tend to be scarce as hen's teeth. So we were pleasantly surprised by the great ambience and food. We had the price fixe brunch and enjoyed the tasty juicy burgers and excellent warm chocolate cake for dessert. House martinis were strong and good. Our waiter was a friendly Irishman who provided excellent service. They seated us in a lovely booth downstairs when I mentioned my bad knee. Highly recommended."

  • "Had brunch here on Sunday, March 16th; the area was busy due to St. Patrick's Day. After greeting us, our server asked if we were seeing a show and the time of the show. This allowed her to pace our meal and get us out on time. You really appreciate this attention to detail. The standard brunch menu offers three courses, with several choices for each course. The dining area was crowded, so the noise level was "energetic".....from people enjoying a good meal, good company. This is a favorite place for this area.....so much better than some of the old standards that push out "same old, same old" day after day!"

  • "Our food was great but we were seated upstairs by where a group was meeting and presenting a video slide show. The microphone they used amplified the sound enough that we had difficulty hearing each other. Where we sat the curtain was left open and we were looking at the screen for most of our meal. The ambiance of where we sat was not very appealing, right next to where the server was putting in orders on the computer behind us. The service we received was very good. I would probably not choose to go back to this restaurant because of the ambience."
